Gina - a suggestion for you that may help you get to know other single parents in Bristol. Bristol is home to the Single Parent Action Network who can be found at: Millpond, Baptist St, Bristol, BS5 0YW, Tel 0117 951 4231 and I would say that they should be your first port of call - they offer courses, workshops, support and social space to single parents and I'm sure would be able to point you in the direction of other ways and means of meeting parents in your area.

I have been away for a week and a half, it is great to come back and find that there are lots of new people introducing themselves! I have said it time and time again and I will say it again, it always astounds me that the media loves to stereotype single parents, but reading your introductions, we are all as different as marmite and marshmallows!!!

I have officially been a single parent for 9months now, although felt that way ever since my son was born. I have to add, I should have left him years ago and have never been happier just me and my babies.

After bringing up my son on my own i always vowed i'd never have anymore children unless i was settled, i thought i was but when my daughter was about 18mths old i became a single parent again. No more kids for me, enoughs enough.lol

Welcome to One Space, sounds as if you are feeling a bit down at the mo? I think there are a lot of people here who recognise your situation, despite what the media is saying at the moment about how us single parents are only in it for the benefits - yeah right! - more often than not we believe we are having a baby into a 2 parent family, we still believe it should be that way and wish that for our children. I am sorry to hear that you have been let down not once but twice.
Share with others your frustrations and joys, remember life has only just begun!!! :D

I'm exactly the same as you... 40, with 2 grown up sons(23 and 18) and a little girl 6. I think its so much harder being a single parent the second time round cos you know just how tough it can be! But we're strong and we can do it again! :)

It must have been horrible when your partner left if you had no idea he was going to leave, it must be very disconcerting. How are the children? Are you able to talk to them? Have you seen your ex? This can be an extremely lonely time for you, make sure you keep getting out whether it be to playgroup or just to the shops and talk to people. It can be so isolating when you have no adult conversation throughout a day. Let us know how you are. :)
