Basic Assertiveness Rights

Everybody has Basic Rights to Assertiveness such as the right to be heard.

These rights are part of our free Everyday Assertiveness online course.

Basic Assertiveness Rights

  • I have the right to say what I need but accept that I may not always get it.
  • I have the right to be treated with respect.
  • I have the right to feel and express my feelings, opinions and values and take responsibility for them.
  • I have the right to say “No” without feeling guilty.
  • I have the right to change my mind without making excuses.
  • I have the right to say, “I don’t understand” or “I don’t know” and ask for more information.
  • I have the right to be listened to and taken seriously.
  • I have the right to choose not to assert myself.
  • I have the right to take the necessary time to calm down and think.
  • I have the right to make mistakes.
  • I have the right to feel good about myself.
