5.6 – Complying with our requests and instructions – feedback

How clear do you think the instructions you wrote were? Did you check that they had been understood and that they knew what was expected of them? Here is some feedback on how you can give clear instructions according to the age of the child.

ScenarioInstructions and steps required
1. Pyjamas “Beth, please can you go and get your pyjamas from your bed and bring them into the bathroom as you are going to have your bath now.”
2. Tidying toys “Greg, can you go get your truck, bat and ball in from the garden, put them in the box and then put the box in the cupboard please as it’s going to rain soon?”
3. Horrid hamster “Safia, can you please clean out your hamster cage as it is starting to smell badly? Can you get a box to put the hamster in, take out the dirty bedding and then put the dirty bedding in a rubbish bag? You will then need to put new bedding in the cage, change the water and food and put the hamster back in the cage.”
4. Shopping trip “Harry I need you to go to the shop to get some things for dinner please. Can you write a list of the things we need from the shop? Here is the recipe of what we need. Get a carrier bag out of the cupboard, take the money off the side in the kitchen and put it somewhere safe. Then can you please hurry to the shops and get the things on the list as I need them to prepare dinner?”
