Just to say hello

Lush

Hello stuart and all of you who have just joined and welcome. You certainly have arrived home away from home. Brilliant platform for sharing, understanding and enjoying all that comes with single parenting. I have been a single parent for ove 20years. I am a mother of 2 boys one 20 and the other 14. I have been thru it all, its not bad at all, not scary at all. Just enjoy it. I live in Africa, a small place called Botswana and it has not been easy being a single parent - its a taboo!!! but i have done it and i see a lot of people are doing it now. Good luck and we are here to listen and chat. To everyone its nice to be back

I too hear that the weekend is due to be delicious. I just looked at the forecast. Tomorrow is going to be lovely then Sunday it is going to return to our usual UK weather that we know and love!

Make sure all bbq's, sun lounging and wine drinking is done on Saturday, have fun!

Hi everyone, stuart your weekend sounds very relaxing - after the 2 hours of trampoline assembly that is!

Louise your carnival sounds fun.  There is a carnival near us too, we go nearly every year, it is often the only time I bump into old friends! On Saturday there is Jack in the Green, a celebration of the start of the summer.  He is a 9foot green man who is dressed up in many leaves and looks like a huge bush, he dances his way through town and at the end of the walk Jack must die to release the Spirit of Summer!

The children can follow him and there is also Morris Dances that join in too!

Some great plans there, stuart and a bit of free time too, heh heh. Make sure you get a bit of a rest when you can, your life is very busy. The farm sounds a good idea, it is far to travel?

Anna, aren't little ones scared of Jack in the Green? Mine even used to be scared of Santa if he came to todddler group!

I used to go to the local Gala every year but now tend just to go to the parade. I was in it one year as I helped run an Easter club for children called......The Smelly Yellow Welly Club and we had a great song to sing as we were all sitting in the trailer driving round the parade route. What was lovely was that the parade gets "stuck" later in its route and everyone is outside their houses and comes and talks to you and you give them sweets and one person was even making cups of tea! (.....and then everyone ignores each other for the rest of the year...)

Ha ha! Not all the children are scared, my daughter used to be, she always used to scream and hide when there was a Mickey Mouse or any other character walking around town.  I suppose they could be pretty frightening, these huge creatures reaching their arms out to you for a hug!

Hello Louise

I live about 5mins away from blackpool in the car. Will take him to lytham St annes its nice there.Walk along the seafront hope the suns out lol.

Yer spiders are the worse in are house they scare the life out of the kids.

When kids are not there i have no one to run around after and its to quiet. If i sit down for more than 5mins i nod off lol.

We watched avatar on wednesday night very good film we all really enjoyed it would recommend it for a family night movie.

That's brilliant to be so near the sea, Stuart. I lived in Scarborough when my eldest was born, 20 years ago. Visited Morecambe last autumn, it struck me that it had been really run down and they were trying to regenerate it.

I know what you mean about nodding off if it is too quiet, lol.

Haven't seen Avatar, I had wondered if it was 3D on the DVD and how that worked but I think it is just as normal is it?

Hi there, we haven't seen Avatar yet, but hoping to soon. I wanted to get a 3D version so we could all sit around in silly specs, but I don't think that is possible!

Weather for the weekend is rubbish round my way, rain and showers are forecast, however it will be lovely to have 3 days off work :)

I put Avatar in my trolley on Monday, and we watched it on Tuesday - made tea early especially!!

We really enjoyed it.

I know its extravagant, but it would cost over £30 for the five of us to go to the cinema...

Hi there, we watched Avatar and stuart it was on HDTV and BlueRay!  It was great!

I had heard lots of negative feedback about the film, we loved it.  I especially liked the idea us all being in one big network and if we all work together we can acheive great things!

Hi louise and sparkling lime

My dog is a black and white collie and hes called ben, we got him from a dogs home his last owner had dumped him.He is a real family dog soft and gentle, hes house trained and paws you when he wants to go out.

On monday took the kids to a wild boer park in garstang the boys loved it the daughter said it was boring ( lol teengaer for you ). It had wild boer, sheep, deer, larma, peecock, pot belly pigs, donkeys, meerkats.

We took a picnic and had a good day,but it feels funny when you see mums and dads together and your there on ya own lol.

Did you and your daughter have a nice time together at the parade.

You feeling better now sparkling lime.

Hi all

It sounds as though nearly everyone had a nice Bank Holiday.

stuart, when I was small we had a black and white collie called Ben!!  He died when I was about 15, I was devastated.

Sounds like your picnic was fun, how is your week going?

Your day out sounds good, stuart, I know what you mean about everyone else seeming to have mums and dads there, that seems to be one of the drawbacks of Bank Holidays. However, 25% of children these days are in single parent families so we do not need to feel on our own and maybe some of the people you saw were parents who had teamed up together or had aunties and uncles there.

I am glad your dog is such an important part of the family, isn't it a coincidence that his name is the same as sparkling lime's dog when she was a child? I have only got a goldfish these days, his name is Bob le poisson!

Hi Louise, it was my dog called Ben!  He was such a good boy, so faithful, he would be able to tell when I was upset and needed him to lie down and be cuddled and also when to be springy and bouncy!!

stuart I used to think that everyone was a happy family except for me, but Louise is right, it is highly unlikely that all that you saw was what you thought!

Hi stuart

That's good news about the football match.

I had to smile about what you said about your daughter. I think all 15 year olds are permanently embarrassed by everything that happens to them!

I suppose Man U is one of your local teams. There are great celebrations over here (the other side of the Pennines) because Leeds Utd has been promoted. I don't follow football but with two sons I have little choice but to know about it.

What does your week hold?

Congrats to you on your daughter turning 15!  As I have said before mine is 15 too and I just can't believe it!

Funny though, one minute she can seem sooo grown up and the next she seems to revert to a 10 year old!!  I guess this is just another phase!

Is your daughter in the first year of her GCSE's?  What does she want to do in the future? Does she know yet?

We did have a few glasses of wine, but round my friend's brick stove in the garden, was very relaxing.

This coming weekend I am meeting with a couple who are friends of mine; it is the man's birthday so they are meeting up with me before they go out for a celebratory meal. I am also on the last stage of my college work (counselling qualification) so that will keep me out of mischief.

Hi all how is every

sorry about this but time for me to have a moan.

The kids mum chose to have the children one weekend a month not a problem she could without question have them every other weekend.

She Collects them from school at 3.15 friday brings them back as soon as she can sunday.

Now because they got stuck in traffic going home friday took them 6 hours to get to birmingham she now wants to collect them saturday afternoon it was her decisson to love so far away.Whats the point to and from birmingham for a night.

Yer i love the fact that they see there mum but the time is starting to get less and less.

I had made plans that weekend to go visit a friend, it seams every time i meet new friends and make plans my ex trys to spoil it what a sad person.

It seams the world has to revole around her not that she is spending less and less time with her children.

Thanks for listening

Stuart (still liveing the dream just lol)
