Hi stuart, your easter sounded lovely, did you cry in king kong??!

It is good that you are able to talk with your ex about contact now, as long as you can do that amicably you can't really ask for more!

Have the children gone to their mums yet? What are you up to?

Hi stuart

Wishing you a great weekend all to yourself!  Don't get bogged down withinternet or TV it can take up too much time, you may turn around and find that it is Sunday evening before you know it!

So your neighbour can see that you are a great guy!  You be careful she might be hot footing it over to yours tonight!  Us women love a good chat, how does it feel though , if she needed to 'talk'?

Unfortunatley I am on not on holiday this Easter I am working, tut!  But its the weekend and all is well in our world, the sun is shining its a beautiful day - oh, I am about to burst into song....do you know Avenue Q?  My daughter introduced it to me, VERY funny about a guy trying to find his purpose.  It is a theatre show with puppets and actors - hilarious throughout!

What are your plans for your free time?

Hi Stuart, my 7 year old son went to see Nanny Mcphee, and loved it last week. Hope you are enjoying your weekend break. Sounds like you had fun at the neighbours, gives you both a topic of conversation, with the two of you being single parents. Its also nice that you let her talk, and you listened, sounds like you could do the same thing one day, (should you need to talk). I tend not to open up to neighbours, I don't like them knowing too much of my personal life, (apart from the ones who've known me since I was in nappies) haha

Enjoy your time with just your daughter.

Take care

Hi Stuart

Glad to hear you are enjoying the good weather and there is some quality time with your daughter to come.

That was great having a chat with your neighbour, you might be able to give each other a bit of support. Everyone needs a listening ear. One day at a time is all you can do for the time being and enjoy the positive aspects, like your children and the sunshine.

I saw Nanny McPhee being advertised, wouldn't like to be her dentist!!

Are you back at work this week?

Hi stuart, sounds like a fun evening talking about violent ex partners!!!  I am sure it was very good for her to let it all out and hear some reasuring words, just be careful that you don't get too involved in it all and become her sounding board whenever she needs to have a moan.

Enjoy your daughter :)

Hello Alison

My weekend was good enjoyed the break now for this week its just me and R.She loves the time on her own with dad the peace and quiet lol.

I did enjoy time with my neighbour but i have to be careful what i say as the village i live in is where my ex was born so with facebook and that i dont know weather they pass information on you know what i mean.

I do talk alot about what things i have been through and still affect me as i still go to counciling to try an rebuild my confidence and get over bitterness and the feeling of being taken for a ride for god knows how long. But i listen also to other people in the same situation as me and how it affects them.

Enjoy the sunny weather.

Hi Stuart, yes you are supposed to be gentlemen, but unfortunately there are some bad ones out there, as well as women of course!! It's nice to listen to others, but not get too bogged down with their problems, (like I tend to do). Its very important to look after YOU. You're still going through the healing process, and you're doing remarkably well. You have a fantastic relationship with your children, and I'm sure they will grow up with manners and respect, because that is what you are teaching them. We can only try our very best, and then keep our fingers crossed eh!!

Hi stuart, I took the liberty of taking your daughters name out of your post and just gave an initial.  (I'm a moderator, so I'm allowed to!) We try and keep these boards as confidential as possible.  Especially as you say you live in an area where everyone knows/or likes to think they know your business!

I am glad that you recognise that you can/t give too much to your neighbour at this time as you still need time of your own.  I would suggest that she seek professional help, either from womens aid or looks up the Freedom Programme and sees if there is one in her area.

So you are back at work, tut, just when the sun shines, typical huh! I hope that you have some lovely evenings with R.  Do you have a garden?

Hello Anna

Yes i do have a garden a rather large one when its birthdays i hire a bouncy castle for the boys and we have a trampline to.In the summer we have bbq an bonefire night its always a neighbourhood party at mine.

Yer there seams to be more help out there for single women than men thats why its nice to come on here as it has both men an women.

I was looking in to joining the local gingerbread around here but when i enquired about it i was told it was just full of women and it wasent a dating agency so i was a bit miffed an did not join.

What about you anna you have a garden and what do you like to do when you have spare time.

Hiya stuart, I have a shared garden and a few years ago I got a new neighbour who completely revamped the garden from a squatters paradise to my paradise!  Its a good size and I am pretty much the only one that uses it!

Spare time? What spare time!!  I love reading and I love socialising, but don't seem to get much time to do either having a full time job and a teenager!

It is a shame you weren't able to join the Gingerbread group, would you ever consider starting a group yourself??

hello Stuart,

Did you get to the cinema? The films I like seem not always to come to my local one so I sometimes have to wait for the DVD. However Clash of the Titans would be much better on a big screen!

I am shocked that you weren't allowed to join the Gingerbread group! Groups are funny things.....When my eldest was a toddler and I first moved here (was married then) I went to the local Community Centre and found the phone number to ring to ask to join the young Mums group. I was told I was too old (29) as they only got funding for under 25s. I expressed consternation and the woman said "they are probably not the sort of person you would want to associate with anyway". I said "And how on earth do you know what sort of person I might want to associate with?" and slammed the phone down!!!!!!!

Hi louise

Dident get to the cinema as my one of my boys fell in  on tuesday and wanted his dad and wanted to come home. So his mum asked if id come and get him and the other boy who wont stay there unsless his brother does. This was at 8.30 tuesday night had a bit of a do with there mum as its her time to spend with them so look after them.

Its 4 hours to birmingham and back but he really wanted his own home and bed so i got there mum to pay the petrol and i went and got them i know i am soft.Next day he was as right as rain have i made a rod for my own back i think so lol.

Funny old things groups arent they suppose to be there to help people who are in the same position. Yer right on louise you give them a piece of your mind lol.

In the days The Git was having the children regularly, I know every now and then there was a call for me to collect one, as they were ill (no, he wouldn't look after them when they were ill), and by the time I'd get there to pick up a sick child, they'd all be wanting to come home!

Having said that stuart, I only had to travel about 5 miles...

I do think they like to be "home" when they're poorly.  I have to say it was remarkable too how they'd perk up (still poorly...) when they got home too.  Familiarity, I guess, must be a comfort.

Hope they're better now for you.

Dont know if anything was happening at his mums they dont say much when they come home.I think as they get older they aint going to want to go to there mums just as there sister doesnt now.

Hi Stuart, my son is being given a trampoline with the net around it, (not sure if I really want it to be honest) Have heard some stories about these being soooooo dangerous!

They must really feel settled with you, wanting to come back etc. Is a long journey though!! Hope they went to school ok. My son wasn't that keen, but is full of everything they've done today. Hasn't stopped chatting and singing since he got home. Oh for the peace again!!!

Trampoline is now in the garden. My nieces partner delivered it just now, but apparantely I wouldn't be able to set it up. (MEN, haha)!!! He has said that he will set it up at the weekend, which gives me time to cut the grass. Might even have a little go at assembling it, or maybe not!!! Think I would have to get another net though, as it's been out in all weathers, so think could be holes etc. Anyone any idea where I can pick one up, or as Bubblegum says, GOOGLE is your friend :) Freecycle maybe. I'm learning, I'm learning!

Hope everyone is having a good night. Take care

That's lovely Alison!  Your son will love it.  My lot are forever pleading for a trampoline, but our garden is unsuitable - teeny and mainly concrete!!  Daughter does argue that the net would stop them falling onto the concrete...

I have seen trampolines on freecycle here - at least two and it was this year, so you never know!!

Not so sure lovely is the right word Sparkling. By the time summer is really here, my garden will be taken over by the all in one swings, seesaw, plus the trampoline, and then the big pool. (got a big one, so I could go in too). I'm such a worrier, that last night in bed when I shut my eyes, I could see children bouncing on it, then bouncing over the fence to next door!!! BOING BOING

Our neighbour had a trampoline, alisoncam and she found that it is was Ok if just her two went on it but all the kids i the neighbourhood would want to be round (my boy included)

When I say neighbour, her house is at right angles to mine. I can stand on my back doorstep and shout my boy in for his tea and he would hear me if in their garden. The neighbour in between has a garage so when standing on said step, all I can see is heads popping up and from time to time (no bodies!)

Anyway I would think the likelihood of injuries is more if there are multiple children on it. My neighbour made a rule that only two were allowed at a time, but that is quite a wide trampoline.....what do you think, alisoncam?

I agree Louise, only two at a time. Have been speaking to two Mums this morning about it. Different views from both! I'm going to google to see if I can assemble it, although somehow don't think I could, (not on own anyway). My elderly neighbour thinks I'm completely bonkers, but the way I see it, the garden is for the kids too, when C is older, he won't be wanting to stay in there, (but for now, he has no choice). My garden will still look pretty with the flowers etc, but its as much mine as it is C's, and he is very careful with the plants and everything.

Hope you all have a good day, lovely sunshine, but wind is cold.

When I lived on the main road, I did have swings and a slide, sit on tractors etc, as the children were stuck in the garden unless I took them out.  I had loads of space for that though.

Don't try to assemble it on your own.  I'd worry...  I have no doubt you can do it, but it might hurt your back...

I use to mow paths in the grass and the children would run along them or use them as roads for their sit on toys...

Ah the memories.

Really, the garden was the only thing I did miss about the laughingly called family home.  However, I wouldn't have been able to look after it now...

Hopefully we will have a better summer this year and we can all do some of the things that Stuart decribes so well.....although the Victor Meldrew in me reminds me that whenever I am sitting in the garden with a book and a cup of tea, some so-and-so always starts up their mower, sets off a concrete mixer or starts playing some awful music. At the moment, one of my neighbours is having a patio built, obviously by a couple of "lads" rather than a professional firm and judging by the noise they must be making every flagstone from scratch. I might just get my own trampoline and bounce over the wall!!!!

Oh alisoncam I know you like to be independent but do accept help putting the thing together, sparkling is right about your back.

Trampoline in the garden eh? My daughter would love it, a couple of years ago we had new neighbours and they bought a trampoline, they put it away in the winter and we haven't seen it since!!

I have a friend who has one of those paddling pools but huge for adults! Many a fun time had in that!  Roll on the summer!  Its been lovely here, but still a chill in the air especially later on in the evenings, last night my daughter and I were discussing warm summer eves, mmmMMMMmmmm, lovely!

Hi Anna, welcome back. Hope you enjoyed the seminars and meetings! Did you go out at night, hehe. What a waste of the trampoline. Maybe you could ask about it, and perhaps they might offer it for a good price. You never know your luck, or should I say, your daughter never knows her luck!

Sunshine is brilliant today, but I am freezing. Not worrying as Sparkling said in another post that she felt the same in Wales.

My neighbour (downstairs) very kindly gave me his bbq last year, so we had a few, and some with friends here. I absolutely love them, but hate cooking on them. I tend to half cook in the oven first, (which I guess defeats the object, but I know the meat is cooked then)! Perhaps I'll get Stuart round, hehe

Hope you're having a good day

Hi Stuart, how disappointing for the children (and you of course):) Its supposed to be gorgeous at the weekend, so I'm sure you'll all get lots of bounces. It's not Gordon that I'm after, I'd rather have the french fella, (oohhh, what's his name)? I could listen to his accent all day. I do like Gordon though.

Put my feet up, lapping up the rays, with suncream of course, glass of wine, sounds like bliss. Then of course, knowing my luck Stuart, there would be some neighbour deciding on a bonfire in the middle of my blissfullness, haha.
