1.1 – Session 1. Introduction

What is Confident Parenting?

Parenting is hard work and we all need a little bit of help. If you would like to learn how you could do things differently, then this course is for you.

What will I get out of the course?

Topics include: parenting alone, our responsibilities as parents, rights of children and parents, practical and emotional development at different ages and stages, behaviour and discipline techniques.

What else will I learn?

By working through the activities you will gain ideas, tips and tools to help you become more confident in your parenting.

How long does the course take?

Since you will need time to practice we suggest that you complete a session per week over a period of 6 weeks. This will allow you to put your learning into action and reflect on how well you are doing.

You may find during this course you feel vulnerable, emotional or angry. It is important that you look after yourself emotionally.

You will find links to relevant websites and helplines here on One Space. You can talk to a Parenting Specialist in the Parenting Support Forums or you can find local advice or support agencies in your area.

We also recommend that you consider enrolling on a face-to-face parenting course at some point in the future; you will find advice in the programme on how to find parenting support.
