October chit chat (part 2)

Oh dear that sounds a bit ominous, hazeleyes. hurray for mince though. I did a couple of new dishes last week and son said ooh teatime is a bit more exciting now with new things to try, I am so glad not to have bolognese every five minutes. Cheek! I have got a gammon steak for us, they are too big for one each so will just share. Talk went well and I got a donation of £150 for the charity Smile

Brilliant donations Louise. Do tell us what the new dishes are (especially if they're simple to cook)

I knew my day wouldn't get any betterFrown Really had it with C at the moment, and am once again, giving him the silent treatment. It's now 6.12, and I've told him that his homework will go in tomorrow, and the teacher can see it, deal with it, as I'm through with it!! It doesn't have to be in until Wednesday, but my rule is, unless homework is given during the week, C is quite able to do his at the weekend, then when he gets in from school, his evenings are free, watching TV, laptop, a game or whatever he likes. If there is homework left over from the weekend, there is hell in here. I'm shouting, he's yelling back, absolute mayhem. So, have stopped the hassle. Can hear him in the bedroom kicking a balloon around. (No homework being done then) Ggrrrrrrr

Loads of hugs hazeleyes.  I'm sorry its not been the best of weekends.  He'll need to face the consequences though...

I really hope you have a good week, and that it flies by.

Hope everyone has had some sunshine today.  I missed the sunshine as our windows are boarded up in the hut!!

Hi all! What a mixture of weekends! Jamborees, homework struggles, lazy days and runs!

pancake queen your weekend sounds lovely.

My take on homework is ...let them get on with it. In senior school they will be the ones that get into trouble. Let them know that you expect and tell them that you trust them to do it. They need to be responsible for themselves and their actions. I think that I have mentioned before that my daughter used to flare up over this, but I then backed off completely and since year 7 she just got on with it as she knew it was her head on the line!

hazeleyes, shouting at each other just doesn't help from my experience! They just learn that it is ok to shout back at us - not cool. Also it means they are not in a good space to do any kind of work as they are nursing their wounds. It sounds as though you are feeling quite stressed about this upcoming visit with your sister and I understand that you want C to do his chores, however try not to use this as a bribe or consequence as it takes away the fun and free time. Would you consider witholding the Xbox instead, this withdrawal of his benefits can be used as an ongoing consequence?

sparklinglime, I hope that you had a good nights sleep and don't feel so shattered today, what are you up to?

kiera, sounds like you have things under control your end and you know how to have a quiet yet satisfying time, now all the drama has gone away Smile

Hi Hopeful, I know what you mean, however if it was blissful outside, we wouldn't want to be doing any homework at all. Yesterday when I was trying to settle into work, I made a pot of coffee, put milk in a jug and made the area nice, it certainly helped! My daughter tells me that it takes half an hour of us hmmming and agghhhing, before we can actually get on and do something. (That is what her tutor told her) and I found that after half an hour of procrastination, arranging folder etc, I actually managed to get some done!

Hi kiera, I think the days are warm, but the nights are cooler. Which theme park is he going to? Port Aventura, Tibidabo or Isla Fantasia (Water park actually!!)

Hi all. Still grouchy here (me that is) Even though I took a sleeping tablet last night, I found myself awake from midnight until 3.30Surprised I'd fallen asleep about 11!! C and I got back to our normal loving selves (eventually) You're right Anna, shouting doesn't do any good, which is why I reverted to the silent treatment. We've spoken about everything, and I feel that even though we're together all of the time (barring school hours) we don't really get to do anything anymore. Yes, we may watch Harry Potter, but I mean simple board games. Either he is watching his tv programmes, I'm doing cleaning, etc. So, last night I've promised him, that at least once or twice over the weekends we will play a game. Make more time for each other, like I did when he was younger. He is going away, again, you're right Anna. Told him this morning, yes, he can definately go, and I won't backtrack on it now (even though I still don't want him to go)Cry I've plenty of things that I need to catch up with, so I'll have no excuses!

Hopeful, good weather is on it's way (or so I'm told)

pq, don't you just luv Homework, hehe

Sparkling, we've had no sun today, has been misty and damp allllllllllll day! Hope all good your end.

Hi all,

Hazeleyes, the dust has finally settled here too after homeworkgate and the subsequent fall out. Mine are both going away to my parents for half term, I am also a bit nervous as their last visit wasn't plain sailing, maybe we can support each other through the week Smile

Its been grey and foggy here all day, also wishing for the indian summer everyone is talking about, I'm begining to think it may have been a myth!!

Yes, definitely a myth. I heard a load of people moaning about it in Morrisons yesterday, how the forecasters had been so wrong (unusual, eh?Tongue Out) Anyway that was the extent of the posh coffee yesterday, Morrisons caff! I had about a million errands, well 999,000 anyway.

Also I am very busy on one of my campaigns. The street lights are now being turned off between midnight and 6am and as a result my neighbour's van was broken into (he is an electrician) and someone tried to break into my house one night too...they did not get in and no harm done but there has never been crime hereabouts to speak of and suddenly there is, with no street lights. So as you can imagine I have been Victor Meldrew with the council, two county councillors, my MP and the prospective candidates for local police commissioner, and got my neighbours inspired to write too. One of them made me laugh, he wrote to the council asking if they could supply night-vision goggles to the members of our Neighbourhood Watch Laughing

Kiera, I saw the programme last night. Your son must be so excited about his trip

Sparkling you are getting the Hallowe'en things at the ready. I bought some sweets yesterday ready for the trick or treaters (Note to self: do not eat them before October 31st)

PQ I remember your mum and dad weren't quite on side with everything on the girls' last visit so let's hope it goes better this time.

Hazeleyes, good for you, with C going on his visit. When will he go? You can get up to date with everything during that time then when he comes back you will have the time to do the games etc. You're right, they love that one-to-one time

Keeping fingers crossed for Hopeful today.

Aww, kiera, so sorry you lost money. Was it stolen, or did you lose it?

PQ, that sounds a lovely idea, thankyou. We'll defo support each other. I hope the girl's visit goes well.

C will be leaving next Monday, and returning on Saturday. In the evening, I have brought tickets for a scout thing. Fireworks, archery, fun things for the kids, BBQ, and a bar. What more could we ask for? That'll be C's treat with me, so I'm looking forward to that already, even though I'm not keen on fireworks. Don't mind looking out of the window, but being outside with them!!!

Sparkling, how's your day been?

Hopeful, they cancelled the Indian Summer (unless we missed it of course)

C has his bloodtest tomorrow morning. From there, bit naughty, but we'll go to McDonalds, then head back to school for when lunchtime is nearly finishing. I'm working in the afternoon, so shall make my hours up. I don't care, as it's a arty stuff in the afternoon, all week Smile

Hi all,

They've fitted 'switches' to the street lamps here too, obviously someone's idea of saving money. Good luck with your quest louise, I hope you're successfull. My experience of trying to get things changed with the council isn't good. There's a footpath outside my house which is constantly used as a cut through by cyclists and even the odd motorcyclist, the council have never been interested in my campaign, even when my eldest got knocked off her bike by a cyclist coming through at a rate of notts!!

I take my girls to my parents on sunday and pick them up again on saturday hazeleyes. I normally have lots of things planned but I've been a bit lax this time, maybe I can get someone to go the pictures with me? Anyone seen any good films lately they would recommend?

Had a really busy day at work today, my girls were with thier dad after school and I had planned to go to Zumba after work but I had to stay late at work so missed out. It was probably a good thing as I'm still aching from my run on Saturday Surprised

I'm watching football.  I'm not a football fan, but youngest has gone with a trip to school.

My friend, the boss, wants me to work every day.  I've refused.  I've said I'll go in on Friday morning for a while, to see if things settle with the new contract, if it doesn't, then we shall see.  My colleague reckons it will settle down.

I had started to fill an online form for Asda, and thought I'd saved the ruddy thing.  Seemed I'd submitted it Embarassed whoops.  I knew I hadn't completed it, and now booted out!!

I don't know what to do.

Oh sparkling, were you ordering your shopping? you should be able to get it back.....or were you applying for a job? Youngest did a lot of online forms and got sick of the hours he would spend doing it. Did you see your boy at the footy? Wink

Hello PQ. Yes the council have been very unhelpful and unsympathetic. But then they are not the ones being targeted. I am a real Rotweiller about things like this and will pursue it to the nth degree. It sounds like a good idea to have some nice things arranged while the girls are away.

Hazleyes, same goes for you. This seems to me to be a new chapter for you, that after the early childcare years, C is getting older and trying out a bit of independence and now you can think about some things to do JUST for you and trying out your "own" bit of independence. I think it is quite hard to make that adjustment...children are so demanding that they monopolise all our time and that means we put our own things to one side and it is quite hard to pick it all up again.

Hi kiera has your boy got off on his trip yet, you will miss him.

Thinking of you today Hopeful, and wishing you well.

I am excited because I am visiting my eldest on Monday (day off) He has always lived in total student pits where you stick to the carpet. Now, he lives in a nice little rented house with one other bloke and I said I would come over and he thinks it is fab to be the host! I will take a picnic lunch for us and also a little box of supplies to leave with him.

Was the footie a success for your son Sparkling? Hope he really had a great time.

Bit of trouble at school today, with C and the boy AGAIN. PE teacher saw it, C was being kicked several times, his property (clothes) were thrown to the floor. Despite being told to stop it, by the teacher, the lad didn't bat an eyelid, simply carried on, until the teacher told him to move by his side! So, it took several kicks etc, before the teacher decided to actually do something, other than tell the lad to move? Incredible!! A letter is being written shortly, so once again, it goes on his records. Five years on, and still it goes on!

Hi,

Hope everyone is ok. Have got a poorly lap top so not been able to get on, am borrowing friends at minute. My boss has offered to pay for my 'puter to be repaired as he has realised I can't work from home while I am without it!

Big news of my week is I am an auntie again. My gorgeous new niece was born in the early hours of Tuesday morning at a tiny 5lb. She is so dainty, I think J's doll is bigger! He was absolutely fascinated by her, he just stood at the side of me stroking her head bless him.

We are going to see the Ice Age show at Nottingham arena on Friday night and we are staying over in a hotel. J has no idea about it, its a big surprise. We are going with a friend from work and her daughter. I am taking the children down on the train and meeting her there. J will be so excited about the train, he has been asking to go on one for ages. We have Tesco vouchers for Pizza Express so it should be a fun night. On Saturday we are going to see the Milkshake Live show. I was given two tickets by my next door neighbour as her daughter had booked a holiday and couldn't go. Little Princess and Bananas in Pyjamas here we come Laughing

That all sounds so exciting, Looby. My boys used to absolutely love going on trains, and with the eldest, when we got off at the station , I could not get him to leave as he wanted to stay and see all the trains coming and going or stand on a bridge above the tracks. Hope you have a wonderful time.

Hazeleyes it is so frustrating that this boy continues to misbehave. By not nipping it in the bud now, the school and his parents are doing him no favours. Small consolation now, but when he gets to secondary school WOW he won't know what has hit him. Good luck with sorting it out.

Morning sparkling, glad to hear that you stood your ground about not going to work every day...and how about the 16 hour contract? or are you "better off" ( I use the term loosely) on IS?

Kiera ah yes it is half term and that is when your boy is on his trip.

PQ I keep meaning to ask you if you are still managing to keep up the weekend pancake tradition? you seem to have been really busy just lately. Anna Karenina is a good film but rather strange as it is almost as if they have filmed a play, which takes a bit of getting used to.

Went to a training course yesterday on spiritual input to counselling; some of the clients have issues of faith or issues that clash with their faith so it was about working with that. There are some new counsellors at the place so it was nice to meet them too. I don't know if any of you do this but when I meet new people like this, I try and imagine if I would like them as a really good friend and I am often surprised how my impressions of a person change as I get to know them better. I have lots of friends but I definitely have a vacancy for a new buddy if I meet one Smile

I'm happier not being on IS Smile  I'm definitely worse off though, but then that's down to the two in college needing dinner money, which would be the case.  Their EMA still isn't sorted though.

I have said I'll go in for a couple of hours tomorrow, but absolutely not on Monday.  I can see there are days when its hectic - and that is with two of us. If its quiet tomorrow, I'll just come home.  Hopefully Tuesday has been THE hectic day this week!  I don't want my colleague to be under pressure though, and wish she'd phone when it was busy - she has done before...

I feel that the house is slowly getting sorted with me having those two days off, and I want to keep that up.

Sixteen year old finshes at lunchtime today, so I'll be going to get him and won't feel guilty Laughing

I have chocolate biscuits to take in today.  I'm doing another flaming horrid pre-qualifying questionnaire.  Blooming hate them, as they're like essays!  My colleague kept sniggering at me yesterday when I was swearing.  Strangely enough she didn't want to swap desks Tongue Out  We deserve the biscuits.

Some of the scouts were in fancy dress yesterday evening, and we did ghost lamps...

I'm glad its half term next week.  Trying to get this lot moving in the mornings is challenging!!

Have to say that I have some lovely friends.  I have two very good friends but both live away - one in the north east and one down south.  I would like one who perhaps lived closer.

Hope everyone is ok.

Last day of school for youngest as there's teacher's training tomorrow.  The two in college are off on Fridays anyway.

Morning,

Yes louise, we still always find time to have pancakes one day of the weekend, I would be lynched if I didn't!

I find making friends quite hard, I preferred to be with the boys when I was at school, I think because most of the girls were too cliquey and bitchy, so I find developing good female friends quite a challenge. I am very lucky with the female friends I have, they are all very supportive, but like you louise would be happy to have more.

I would like to work less hours sparkling, I was talking about it with a friend the other day. We would have to take a hit financially which makes me feel very nervous, I'm sure we would survive but would have to make some changes. I used to work 3 days a week before I became a single parent.

Louise, I am very jealous, since No1 son moved out he's not 'hosted' me properly ever (over 5 years!). I think I shall put some pointers in that direction.

I'll be worse off once I start working, too, all the benefits gone, plus in April Council tax Benefit stops - Is there a link to advise on that??? But it's what I always wanted to do, so I'm sure it will work itself out.

Well, Hopeful, son has lived away from home for 4 and a half years so I am in the same situation really. How are you feeling?

Re Council Tax benefit, from April 2013, this will be replaced by a benefit called "Council Tax Support" Each council will have to administer it themselves but will be given 10% less money to find it than before, from central Government. So each council will have to decide whether to cut the benefit back or cut services to fund the 10%. Most "seem" to be wanting to keep pensioners on the same benefit level and cut the amount of benefit available to working-aged people by about 15% but these figures are just based on the councils I have read about and each area will be different so I guess more information will be available nearer the time.

Hope it goes ok today sparkling and don't go mad with the choccy bics.

PQ,if you want a projection of how a cut in hours would affect your Working Tax Credit etc then do drop a mail to our Money Expert

Hi all, I hope everyone is well. Hazeleyes, I am sorry to hear that the young lad at school still has issues that seem to be going unresolved. I hope C was ok afterwards. I guess he is getting pretty used to it. Does C ever retaliate

Hopeful - You could also have a go on the Benefits Entitlement Calculator too.

pancake queen - I love female friends! I used to tend to hang out with the boys (although I went to an all girls school) and found them to be much friendlier. However after having a female child I realised that I had to relearn what it was to be a girl and how fabulous it is and how many great qualities we have. However a good friendship is hard to find.

sparklinglime, I hope work went ok and you managed to get to your son in time and are now sitting down with your feet up?

Hi kiera, today is FP day isn't it? I hope you had a good one Smile

Looby! great to 'see' you! Congratulations on becoming an auntie again! 5lbs, how teeny! Sounds like you have a busy, yet fun weekend ahead, enjoy!

Halloo to everyone else too, no news this end really, my daughter is turning 18 next week, so she is very excited. She has never been the teen that sneaks into pubs or clubs underage (unlike mama here) so she is really thrilled with the idea that she can go for a drink whenever she wishes AND go clubbing, although I think that she will find that clubs aren't all they are cracked up to be, I don't think they will really be her style!

My daughter loves flashing her license around to get into a pub - and then drinks sprite!!

Finished work at 6.30pm.  Working tomorrow.  Also need to see boss to complete this stupid pre-qualifying questionnaire, and as he's working in Manchester all week, that will need to be Saturday morning.

Joy.

Should be grateful, I know...

Oldest has come in.  Have to say that I keep telling him not to park car in front of garages, as it can cause problems for the parking ground.  He's angry as there's not a space for us, and I park at the top on the road that leads to our estate.   A neighbour parks in front of the garage, if there's not enough room for their three cars to have a bay each, which is why he does it. Thing is it makes the car vulnerable to being bashed when cars come out of the parking bays.

So he's in a strop.

I'm off to bed. Very, very tired.  I'm just going to go up, shut the door and cry.

Sorry to be miserable

Sparkling, you sounded so exhausted, hope you got some sleep, there is a lot going on at the moment.

Kiera, I think when Anna said FP, it was Freedom Programme Smile Well done to your son with his run!

How is everyone else? I am being strongly beckoned by the shelf at the top of the wardrobe. It is not that big and yet it contains loads of sutff including whatever Christmas presents I have collected through the year, I need to empty the whole thing out and find out what's what and maybe even get rid of those trousers with a hole in the leg! Embarassed

Hi sparkling, I'm sad to see your sad face above. Not sure what has happened today, hope you're ok x

Hazeleyes, I too have been thinking of you. Hope you and C had a good last day of term x

I'm so glad its the weekend. The girls are off with thier dad tomorrow, I've got a hair appointment and am meeting a friend for 'posh coffee' (taking a leaf out of your book louise). My best friend and her 2 sons are coming for a sleepover in the evening, then off to my parents on sunday to drop the girls off. If I say it really quickly it doesn't sound like much Tongue Out.
