I think it was about 1am by the time I went to bed, and then watched John Bishop.

The children, a friend and I saw in the New Year.  Oldest was out though.

Usually we go to the in-laws on New Year's day, but not this year as she's been busy and has had a fall.

So I did a buffet.  My neighbour came round and a couple of friends too, and we had rather a nice day.

Hazeleyes, thinking of you loads.  Sending loads of hugs your way. xxx

Here's hoping that 2014 with be peaceful and happy...

Happy New Year everyone.

The emergency doc came out to see J. J was sick while he was here and was screaming in pain. Before I knew it the doc had phoned for an ambulance. He kept reassuring me that it was just to get him checked out, but I have to admit I freaked. He wasn't sure if it was appendicitis. The paramedics were excellent with J, who wasn't happy at having to go to hospital. When we got to hospital he was examined and decided  it wasn't appendicitis, but they didn't know what it was, so the doc said he was going to keep him in overnight to keep an eye on him. They asked me how much he weighed so they could give him painkillers, but I went completely blank and couldn't tell them. He was sick again not long after the painkillers. He looked absolutely dreadful but he did manage to get some sleep. At this point I tried to get hold of his dad. Let's just say I didn't manage it and leave it at that, as I do not want to waste energy over him. J was sick once again, but he brought up some very disgusting stuff. And after that he instantly perked up! Within two hours he was  asking for food. The doctor came round to see him and was amazed at the change, but he did say that children were like that. He said that J could have breakfast and provided he kept it down for four hours we could go home. J was not impressed with hospital breakfast, but I told him he had to eat something so he could go home. Everything stayed down and then came the challenge of getting home. All I'd picked up were my keys and phone, no money or anything. I ended up phoning a friend and getting them to pay for a taxi to come and fetch me. But we got home eventually and have had a very very lazy day. J is worn out. He had a nap this afternoon and has been flat out since seven. I'm not going to be much longer, although I have just started watching Harry potter!

Hello mdelmundo_drei and welcome along. How exciting that your baby will soon be here. Have you some support from family and friends?

Sparkling your New Year sounds fab. You had a buffet like me, my locusts hoovered it all up pretty smartly. How's your mum-in-law?

Looby what a worrying time for you, and not surprised you hadn't organised all your gear, glad that your friend paid for the taxi. You tried to get hold of his dad and you did your bit. All that matters is that J is now well, sounds as if there was something nasty in his system. Hope you managed to catch up on your rest too, I know how horrid it is staying at the hospital as a parent, I had lie on a yoga mat thing when my youngest was in hospital, I was tempted to wrap him in a blanket and put him on the mat and just get into the bed myself!

Kiera how are you doing and how's your son?

I was looking at that DVD online kiera, it does look very hard, you need something that you can definitely stick to really, the ad says "do you like working out in a pool of your own sweat?" Erm...

Re your son, if it is the same shoulder that is dislocated with the fits, isn't there anything he could put on his shoulder, like a brace, that would hold it in, he would have to put it on when he knew a fit was coming I suppose, I am not a medical person, that just sounds a sensible idea. Also you were saying the fits seem to come in bunches, so you think they happen more in school holidays, or at least when he is not at school?

Hello one & all - Happy New 2014!

Looby, I am so sorry to hear J was so ill - but very pleased to hear that he's on the mend. Kiera, what a shame for your son. Do you think you could ask his doctor to review his treatment (taking into account what might work better for him)?

I spent NYE at my friend's as planned, where I may have imbibed a bit too much red wine. Yesterday was a very quiet & slow one in our house, but normal service has resumed today Wink

I hope eveyone is ok & is easing themselves back into 'real life' gently.

(The more eagle eyed amongst you may have noticed that I've updated my DoppleMe. I had a very radical hair cut a few months ago, so I thought I'd make my electronic likeness a little more up to date.)

Sounds brill rudimentary Mary Smile glad you feel a bit better...I feel incredibly tired after all these sleepovers where no one sleeps and when I came down this morning, all the tiles in the kitchen were covered in ashes! black ashes!

I had told the boys they could use the indoor fireworks as most of them were just sparkles and when I came down at 2 in the morning, all seemed fine and I thought they had used them all up as I saw a plate was used for it. This morning I found matches, a lighter, these ashes as if kitchenrolls had been burned the glasses used were completely black and on top of that they had tried to quench the fire, believe it or not, not with common water from the watertap, no, they found water repellent spray for shoes and thought it was a brilliant idea to use this to quench the fire, not noticing the symbols on the can!

Boys!  I think I will join you on that sofa Mary ! Wink

Morning one and all

Thank you so much Mary, as ever, we love having you with us and look forward to seeing you again soon. Anna and Sally are back tomorrow so we will have them with us once again.

How are you all? Ready for the big return to school tomorrow, I guess the hardest thing will be to face the early alarm clocks, eurgh.

Skyflower how horrifying to find all that. I know that feeling....you think it's all under control and suddenly, eek! Hope the cleaning up was not too bad and that you made the boys play their part.

I have been busy with my editing job though so far can only do a couple of hours at a time as it is intense work. Been out to the Chinese buffet for my friend's birthday which was lovely. The other four girls all went for a drink afterwards but I scuttled home as it was 10pm and freeeeeeeezing. Youngest is agog that his bank account still has some contents with only 5 days till payday, despite "going out for 6 million meals" (his description of two trips to Pizza Hut and one to Macdonalds, HA). I have pointed out that this may have something to do with less clubbing and drinking nights out.

Hope you will all have a good day, let us know your news Laughing

Yes, children back to school on Tuesday, will have to buy new trainers for the youngest tomorrow, as by accident I have picked up lots of  "old" shoes (outgrown) and brought to charity, to find out that I have put my youngest PE trainers in it as well, never mind, someone will be very happy.

Christmas tree is gone now, how different it all looks again. Yes Louise, it felt awful the feeling of what could have happened, as they DID burn a whole kitchen roll to help the fireworks along, as the lighter did not work properly and they did not like the long matches! No sleepovers for a month.

Sorry to have missed you on the boards Mary, hopefully catch you next time your on.

Hope your trainer shopping goes well Skyflower.

What are your plans today keira now your children are back to school/nursery?

How are you sparkling?

Your right about that shock to the system Louise, i found it difficult to get up this morning, though i did have a late night A went to a Union J concert with friends as it was one of thems birthday and she did  not get in until about 11.  I had a lovely Christmas, though the lead up to it was crazy busy and me and a couple of the children ended up with coughs and colds for Christmas, everyone is well now thankfully.  Trimmings came down at the weekend which left everything feeling abit bare, so i am on a mission to give the lounge a bit of a make over, just need to decide on a colour scheme!

Good news for you about your son dropping out of the TA's Louise, i know this was a worry for you, so must be a load of your mind.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Happy New Year all! I know I am a bit late - my mum has been staying with us over Christmas so I've not had the laptop out. Taking her back to the airport today.

We had a few 'family' nights with everyone there, playing cards, and No1 son managed to drag the new girlfriend along - well, she's not that new, about six months, but she'd been avoiding us. Did I say that she's only 17? (No1 son is 25). Big sigh. I've not said anything about that though, how good am I. I keep telling myself that if he was 35 and she was 27 I wouldn't even think about it...

Hope you're all doing ok! Good for you, Louise, that your son's not doing the TA thing now! :-)

Seems boss and colleague have been chatting.   Colleague's daughter is going to come and work in the office instead of me.

I'm relieved.  There could be some work for me to do - and maybe even a fair bit, as I negotiated a two-year extention to a contract today.  I love my colleague to bits, but life there has become awful.  My feelings are mixed, as I've been with them in come capacity, since setting it up in 1997.

Sprung on me somewhat, but I could whoop with joy.

Now to find another job.  Ideally, my own business that can employ my 17 year old who turns 18 this week...

Hi Sparkling, Louise and Sally, thank you so much for your support. And thank you for the hug Smile The SW said she does not need to see me again after today, she has spoken with several professionals who know our family. She will still interview the children at school. She says the schools are very happy with how my children are, they are very nice children, very well behaved and she cannot understand why section 37 has been called. The thing though is , she is saying that most children under circumstances of abuse still want to see their dad and all involved do not understand why mine do not. She will write a very positive report for me and will not recommend fostercare as this would be damaging for our children. The judge, as he made it so plain that he wants the children in fostercare, can still overrule this though, but she will be there to support me at the hearing.

Well that sounds positive, Skyflower and surely the judge will take some notice of her as she has actually looked at the circumstances whereas the court is a separate entity. When will the hearing be?

Shepherd's pie, that's a good idea, Sally. Youngest was a bit late home for his Yorkshire tonight as he was with the police, giving a statement about someone shoplifting some vodka.

Sparkling, I can't believe what has happened to you at work!!! After all you have done, always going the extra mile (and more) it is incerdible that he has treated you in this way. I'm really sorry. I hope your new plans work out and you make a big success of it.

Skyflower, I don't really understand your situation but it sounds like its been tough for you. Hopefully this SW can help turn things round for you.

Its been a tough start to the year for me. A has been playing up again. She will be 13 on Sunday and she has been practicing her teenage tantrums with a vengence!! She has said some incredibly spiteful things to me (mainly I think because I wasn't reacting to her strops) anyway she got my attention which just made things worse. Its all calmed down now but its knocked the stuffing out of me a bit.

Work continues to be manic. I still enjoy it but I find it very exhausting. The only new years resolution I made this year was to sleep more, but sadly this hasn't started yet!! I aim to practice over the weekend Smile.

Good to hear from you PQ though i'm sorry to hear that A has been giving you grief, hope you manage to catch those extra zzzz's at the weekend, will you be doing anything for A's Birthday on Sunday?

Oh what a pain Louise, did it mess your plans for the day up?

Did everyone else have a good day?

Louise the lounge furniture is mostly cream/beige/browns but i add colour with throws/pillows/nick naks etc we have had purple for the last couple of years, were changing it to a limeish green! tomorrow we will be going to my niece's birthday party, i have also received some good news, my brother P's partner had there baby this morning it's a boy.

Hope everyone enjoys the weekend, the weather is looking abit more favourable!!
