Enjoyed the soak but missed out on the TV, son came in at 9 from football wanting a haircut (don't worry he was in good hands, i used to be a hairdresser) and to chat about school work and friends, by the time he went to bed it was nearly 11.  Hope to catch some tonight whilst i crochet up some gifts for christmas.

The dentist sounds awful Louise, shame you could not change dentist.

Good to hear that everything is going well for you right now happy mamma, the proposal sounds rather romantic, did he get down on one knee?

That was a busy evening, Sally, hope you got a quiet one last night. What are you crotcheting?

A lovely surprise for you, HM, and not in your life plan! Be happy Laughing

How is everyone today? It's Thursday so sparkling's day off I think? I am meeting a friend later on for a catch up (who said gossip??) Youngest is off work this week, he is looking around at other job opportunities including the Royal Navy, you have to be able to run 1.5 miles in less than 11 minutes so we were trying to work out how far that is. He hasn't got a pedometer though he does go for jogs so I might zeroise my car counter and drive until it says 1.5 and see where I am, I could take him with me, make him start from that point and put my phone to stopwatch and see what time he gets home!

I think that dentist should be reported Louise.  Mine is lovely.  They know I'm terrified, so I always have a double appointment so that I can get my nervous yapping out the way!  We always have a laugh.  Having said that I know I have to have a filling next month...  Posh coffee this morning?  Dropping him off sounds like a good idea for timing him.  How do you feel about him thinking of the Royal Navy?

Yes, it is my day off, but I know I've forgotten to give one of the men his overtime!!  So I'll call in before the gym.  Going in before the gym means I have to leave.  There's a standing joke in the office with this plumber as they know I think he's a bit of a hunk!  I can imagine the comments already.

Youngest has decided that he's ill.

I didn't do the Scouts yesterday.  Unexpected invite out.  Chatted with my lot and decided to take the invite.  Daughter took my place at Scouts.  I can't get over how happy my children are for me.

It's pouring with rain here, but meant to brighten up later.

My plan today is to get cracking on some of the crafty stuff.  Usually there is a child at the kitchen table on a laptop, which is why I've not really done any yet, but today I shall kick them off!

Much quieter evening last night Louise and i'm crocheting Mary Jane slippers, there a bit like a ballet shoe.  Did you manage to take your youngest for that run, how did he do timing wise?

Did you get your craft stuff done sparkling?

happy mamma i take it the ring was a dazzler then!!

Tonight my two older girls are doing something at school so i will be toing and froing until about nine, then i think it will be an early night for me.

No crafting today.  It's been a funny old day really, and still isn't over.  Daughter not having the best of days, as I found out after she reversed into a ditch...!!  Luckily my second cousin got it out!  All in a forest commission car park where they're taking the Cubs for a walk.   Lucky I was out last night and not this evening, as I think she might be needing a cuddle when she comes home.  I've asked her to let my second cousin turn the car around as there are massive boulders in the car park too.  I'm quite fond of my car!  Even though I now have a motobility one.

I'm ready for bed.

Good morning one and all

Oh sparkling, how scary about your daughter, glad she was OK. Did you enjoy your night out, where did you go? Is your youngest any better?

Hope you caught up on your rest, Sally. I was watching Educating Yorkshire, which is a fab programme set in a secondary school. The head teacher in it, my friend was in his class when he was a subject teacher (friend much younger than me, haha)

I am going to see what the dentist is like when I go in a couple of weeks. And do some investigating in the meantime. She really caught me on the hop but this time I have had chance to prepare, hehe. Youngest...first I need to find out where the mile and a half is then cajole him into a test. I am thinking of applying for a job as a top international diplomat Wink

I have to say I watched her reversing in disbelief knowing full well she wasn't listening to me yelling stop!  I sat her down later though, and have told her how observant she needs to be when she is in an off-road situation.

Her friend came over too.  Very upset and missing her boyfriend who has gone away to Uni.  The two were in tears, so I made them both a cheese omelette and listened to them.  As I pointed out though, feelings can be the same at 51 as they were when you were 19!  I so wish they weren't Cool

Youngest is back at school today, although looking a bit pale.

I had a very pleasant evening out with my 'new' friend.  I am going to see one of the Scout leaders this evening though, and explain why I wasn't there.  Friend that's pusing is still one of the other leaders, and I didn't want to put her in an awkward situation.  I think she may know though, as I think youngest has told her son!!

It is far easier having no distractions in life...

I do hope the dentist is ok in a couple of weeks, Louise.  It's shocking that she feels its ok to treat you like that.

There was a meeting at work this morning with the manager of the scheme we work on.  The manager and my boss hate each other.  Another manager came with him - very calm and lovely man.  Boss's son and I were listening in horror.  That manager was a disgrace really calling my boss and my colleague (and I think the world of them both) liars!!  Shocking.  It really was.

But I'm home now.

My new friend has a granddaughter who has a birthday next week, so I'm decorating a box for her.  It will be pink and sparkly - just my thing!!  And so not my daughter's!  Whether I'll ever meet his family I don't know.  I'm quite happy not to!  But I know she's the sweetest thing and that her Granddad adores her.

That's enough of rabbiting on.  I was just sitting down in between hoovering rooms.

I hope everyone is ok and looking forward to the weekend.

Out for drinks and nibbles tonight with some colleagues, have to go hunting for trainers for P tomorrow (she is having major growth spurt at the moment) so it won't be a late one.

Good morning all,

not been on for a while. My back finally gave up so I've been laid up all week. But I've got a new mattress now which arrived on Thursday, 2 nights on that and I can already feel an improvement, so fingers crossed it will continue.

Ive been catching up on everyone's news, sounds like you've all been busy, and some new developments for some too, really pleased for you.

the girls have gone out with their dad, he's now only seeing them for a few hours at the weekend. He came late this morning and gave me a mouthful when i rang to see where he was, normally i wouldnt bother but h goes to diving club and was going to be late. Last week he called me to say I had to come home as h was playing him up and he wanted to bring her home. I'm wondering if he's slowly going to move out of their lives?

Good morning everyone and I hope you are all looking forward to a good weekend

Sparkling, yes I imagine your jaw hit the floor, watching the shenanigans with the car. The meeting at work sounds horrid, and no need for that behaviour at all! How old is your friend's granddaughter? Time will tell as to whether the two families will meet each other etc, just enjoy the outings and the new person in your life Laughing

PQ lovely to see you, sorry to hear about your back, it is a horrible pain I know, glad the mattress is relieving it. I found a heated pad helped mine but of couse everyone is different. It does sound as if the girls' dad is being a bit reluctant lately, how sad for them but I have seen it happen rather a lot over the years. Have you been off work with your bad back?

Kiera sounds like your son was having a good birthday, wow I bet you can't believe he is 12 already.

Sally hope you got some new trainers without breaking the bank.

I had an early trip into town this morning and there is a prayer meeting at the chirch first thing, which I really enjoy. Youngest bought himself Grand Theft Auto yesterday so was up rather late playing that so although I am about to go and make lunch, he has not yet had breakfast, haha. Got fed up of book club book (Ian McEwan) so am now reading a book about Salisbury in ancient times, it is a novel not a textbook

Hope everyone will have a good day

We got lost on the way to their father's xmas present this morning.  A friend printed off route for us, which, unfortunately, was totally wrong.  Lots of money wasted, but we went to a shopping centre that we haven't been to for years!  Had a great time.

Daughter has had a jumper, so have I.  I also had my ears re-pierced!  So, one heck of a waste of money weekend, but we're quite happy.  The venue phoned to see where we were, so I've phoned them, and they've suggested emailing the office to see if it can be re-arranged.

I have, but not too bothered if they don't Cool  Everyone is quite happy, as only youngest actually wanted to go.   Me waking them up at 6.16am was the worse part.

I'm so glad you've had new mattress pq.  I know my mattress has definitley made a difference to me.

Louise, his granddaughter will be 5.  I just feel she has a lot on her plate with starting school and a little brother due any day now...  Granddad will keep her amused though!

Hi Louise,

yes I've been off work. I am a great fan of heat, my hot water bottle has been in full use!

the girls have returned grumpy and irritable. They don't do anything with their dad anymore. It breaks my heart watching them struggle with their feelings. I always thought this was how it would be but he seemed to want to be with them so much and tried so hard, I decided I got it wrong, but sadly his true colours are coming through and his selfishness is taking over. I feel like I should say something to him but I know it won't make any difference.

Hello kiera, just been talking to you on the thread about your son. Hope you enjoy the match. What are you cooking today?

How is everyone? Sunny here, hurrah!

My youngest is behaving better thank heavens, I think his brother's pep talk last weekend has helped. He had a raucous night out on Thursday (we have agreed one per week) then last night he worked at the club and came straight home, mind you it was 5.30am as he he worked till 5 but at least no drinking, which was a relief. His friend actually vomited all over the bar in Wetherspoons last week, apparently. I am right to rein him in if this is what is going on around him!

Hope you will all have a good afternoon. Hands up who is watching the new series of Downton Abbey later? ME!

Pash02 my £80 trainers £12.50 sports direct - rebok Bargin of the year

Sally W yes my ring is amazing I still can not stop looking at it funny it was the one I had looked at on my laptop whilst looking for something else lol

Been ill this weekend - made it to blackpool Saturday afternoon just me and the fiance (oh not used that word before). Had lovely time at the waxworks. Home and  out for tea and earlish night. Got up sunday sick as anything, hot cold and the worst headache i have ever had.

Im work today but not 100% now my son has decided hes not sure he wants to do the course in college he has chosen - considering he did induction week, then 1 really week in where they sorted out groups and things, 1 week where he was really poorly with chect infection (my son has what my gp has refered to as a sever chest deformity (we are still waiting for a hospital appointment 12 weeks on)

He put on his FB status really cant be a**ed with college. So i watched the conversation unfold then I blew. If he can go on there and go on to his friends i felt i had the right to put a few facts forward so his friends could see too.

I get up 5 - 5.30am saturday to pay for extre his college kit £350

I have worked hard to help him get his exams passed

I fought to get him in a decent school not the ofstead special measures school we live facing

My son wants to work in a mitchelin star resturant - well I told him if he gives up now he will end up begging out side it not working in it. (rather harsh i know)

We live on the edge of a council estate (im council born and bred and proud) but he is going to end up like some of the lay abouts that live round here.

Im now in panic mode. He has gone in college today. He has taken his kit and knives (worrying a 16 yr old can travel 3 miles on a bus with chefs knives - but if he gets pulled by the police they just check with college (OMG)

I have told him he has to do a minimum 1 year on this course, last week he was wanting to go to uni when the course finishes so whats changed

RANT over

Morning all,

The blue hair was interesting! But she decided she didn't like it so it got washed out almost straight away. I think she thought I would go mad and say she couldn't do it, so blue hair with mum's permission isn't as much fun. She would of had to wash it out for school so I knew either way it would be back to normal.

I went back to work yesterday and really struggled with my back, but I had a hot bath last night and an early night and am moving a bit more freely this morning so hopefully it will be ok. Otherwise I'm not sure what to do.

I've got Room lined up on my Kindle Louise, are you enjoying it? I was told to just read it and not read too much about it first...not sure why?

I hope your son settles down at college Happy Mamma, I think you did the right thing telling him how it really is. And congrats on the engagement.

Hello and how is everyone doing this morning?

Lots of fog hanging around here but hopefully some sun will peep through later. I had an interesting day off and went to Haworth to visit to home of the Brontes and the museum there.Has anyone else been? it was really fascinating. The scenery is so beautiful across the moors but I imagine very bleak in the winter, you can understand how a book like Wuthering Heights was written, looking out over the landscape. I was reading a report from the Health Inspectors in Victorian times that said that despite the seemingly healthy country air the poor sanitation meant that 40% of children there died by the age of 6, worse than in an overcrowded inner city. I find it really hard to comprehend that that was less than 200 years ago. Anyway back to reality today and it's the middle of the week and going past quickly so far, it always does if I am busy.

PQ I had to chuckle over the blue hair, totally classic example of doing something for effect then being hoist by their own petard, well done in taking it in your stride! I expect the thing about the "Room" book is that it is more interesting to have the experience along with the boy as the mysteries of the world unfold. I do hope your back will feel easier today.

Did your son enjoy the footy, kiera?

Sally any more progress with your home crafts? It depends whether you got time to sit down at the end of the day, I suppose. Do you make your own pizza dough? My mum had a breadmaker which I inherited so I can make dough in that

Sparkling how are you this morning? Oo-err car MOTs are never fun, I always shudder in my boots when it's mine, my car is so old and I think "don't slam the bonnet down too hard, it will drop to pieces" Congrats to your friend's daughter on her son's arrival, was that early then?

Morning everyone

How are you all?

PQ that is great news that your back is improving, I hope that has continued. Don't forget Strictly is on Friday this weekend as well as Saturday

Sparkling, yes there is not much staying in hospital after babies these days is there? In my mum's day you had ten days in bed afterwards! then on the day before home, you left the baby with the nurses and had a night out with your husband. I asked my mum about this, I said where did you go? She said home for two hours!

Sally yes breadmakers are expensive, I only got this because it was Mum's. Did your chilli go ok? I love my slow cooker, much better investment than a breadmaker!mainly because I am a morning person and happy to peel and chop first thing, whereas by 4pm I am very demotivated and find it hard to think "now I have to fix dinner" Hey presto slow cooker means it is done! I have invented a new recipe so will put that in our Food Glorious food section.

Kiera, glad your son had a good time. My boy has always supported Man City even though we live in Yorkshire. What are your plans today?

I am going into town this afternoon and meeting my friend and her little daughter, we are trying out a new cafe (any excuse for a posh coffee Cool)

Hi all, again I am sooo sorry I am not here so often now! Life is kind of taking over. I should probably move in at the hospital! Our ward is being painted so they've moved us and another ward (with wanderers and confused people - not good for heart problems!) to the 'closed ward' which will reopen in winter. It's horrible because nothing is where it should be and we've only taken minimal supplies. Or so we thought, because so much is missing that it's not even minimal.

But next week I am on holiday on the Isle of Wight - walking all around it (70 miles) with a friend. Have to work out what to take because we'll be carrying backpacks. I really hope the weather is going to be ok!

No 3 son is mainly doing good (a little glitsch, but I've decided I won't worry), No2 still looking for a job, No1 has a new girlfriend who is only 17 (he's almost 25). No 3 son is the only one who met her and he says she seems older. Big sigh.

Daughter seems ok - she's getting very stroppy teenagey now with me. But on Monday we had the friend that came on holiday and her mother over and we played cards and even the boys joined in. The mother brought chili and I did the baked potatoes and a salad. We had a fab time!

Hope everyone is doing well! :-)

Hi Hopeful, hope you survive the disruption at work, I can completely sympathise with you.

Its school open evening time for us as we traips around all the local senior schools with H. She's farily sure she will go to the same school A goes to but I feel we still have to go and look so she gets the same opportunity to choose that A had.

Has anyone been watching Jamie Olivers new TV series. I've cooked a couple of his things and they were really yummy so I bought his book. I've told the girls that we will be trying a new recipe every weekend. They're not great at trying new things but I am fed up of the limited choices we have for meals. Its fish Tikka curry this weekend, I wonder how well that will be recieved!

I'm popping into work before going to the gym (I love my Thursday's off Cool )

My friend is shattered after all the excitement with his daughter, so tonight he's taking me out for a MacDonald's after he finishes work.  I should be home by 6.30pm I reckon Laughing  I'm sure you can't get anymore excited at being taken out to a MacD's!!

I had such an awful headache after Scouts last night. One scout is particularly noisy, and he was sitting right next to me.  So rushing to get my son and his friend from an Explorer group 10 miles away was good fun!  We have had another new scout though, which is good.  The building is rather small, so we reckon we can accept another three and we're full.

I usually use my slow cooker a lot.  But it seems to have been rather redundant over the summer.  I'll clean it after I come back from the gym.  I gave the fridge a good scrub yesterday after I finished work.

I wouldn't dare have a bread maker.  My colleague tells me all about hers!  I just drool as bread is my biggest weakness.

I'm having my hair cut this afternoon.

Enjoy your posh coffee Louise.

I'm trying to get into crafting Sally.  That seems to have ground to a halt too.  I have got into it a bit this week, so will see if I can get into doing some more later.  I have more wooden boxes that I've put undercoat on, so might carry on with those.  They're only small £1.99 ones, so pretty basic.

Do post recipes in Food glorious Food (in General Interest) if they are good, I thought the food looked lovely on the programme but too much faffing around so hopefully you have found some of the more straightforward ones!

Hi Hopeful, good to see you! The ward sounds chaos, though Cry Good luck for your Isle of Wight trip next week, it is a beautiful island. Good to know that the children are doing ok

Sparkling, enjoy your McDonalds, you can get all sorts of things there now with wraps and salad. Yes, get that slow cooker sorted, it is such a boon.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR LOVELY ANNA, thanks for all you do for us and we wish you a wonderful day xxxxxx

There was open evening here the other day, so was chatting with the newcomer about it yesterday.  I felt with my lot that they couldn't wait to get out of primary and move on to High School.

I hope the ward is soon sorted Hopeful  I'm glad you're enjoying it though.  It sounds as thought your children are doing ok - I hope No 2 son soon finds a job.  Enjoy your break.

Happy Birthday Anna, hope you have a great day xxxxx

Good to see you back Hopeful, i hope you enjoy your hike around the Isle of Wight!!

I like Jamie Oliver to PQ i have one of his books i haven't seen the new tv series will have to have a look on catch up or something.  I like how he just chucks everthing together i'm not one for exact measurements so that kind of style suits me.

Were you having a trim or re style sparkling?

keira enjoy your night out on Saturday.

Well i was up earlier than usual this morning P had to be at the Orthodontist's this morning at 7.50am apparently her overjet is not bad enough right now to warrant nhs treatment, so no treatment which P is happy about (was worried she might have to have some teeth out).

How was your afternoon in Town Louise?

I've had a trim Sally.  My hair is so thick that layering is about as good as it gets.  I do like my hair though, even if it does have a mind of its own.

Enjoyed a Maccies while watching a sunset.  Very peaceful, and a good chat and laugh.

Work tomorrow...  Joy.

Ah  but it's Friday, sparkling, so not too bad! What did you have at McDs?

I agree Sally, with the chuck it all in and see what happens sort of cooking, I once went out with a chap who was totally the opposite. It was probably because he was fairly recently divorced and was still learning but he would religiously weigh and measure everything, it was very time-consuming if he was cooking! and it really annoyed me too.

Kiera your night out sounds fun, time for you to have a break. How are things going with the new chap you have met?

PQ how's your back this morning?

Taking part in that bereavement study today, it is for someone's PhD and I am one of the research subjects, interesting. Eldest will be here tomorrow so I will go to the butchers on the way home as I willl do him a roast dinner. Got a Christmas catalogue through yesterday, and there was a goth and macabre section, strongly tempted to buy a dreadful door plaque, complete with black-cloaked skeleton, saying "Welcome to Hell", for youngest's bedroom door...but then I would be too scared to go past it to get to the loo in the night!

Some daft bat has offered to go in to work tomorrow too, to let the PAT testing chap into the unit.  The boss was going to cancel it.  My colleague looked at him in dismay - "we get kicked off the big contract if they're not done this weekend".  She said..

Anyway.  I'm going to let the chappy in Cool  I can get on with some Sage in peace, with the radio going.

I'm allergic to loads of food, so I had fried followed by Mcflurry, much to the horror of my friend.  People think its so odd that I don't like anything else on the menu.

I can hardly move my neck this morning.  When I'm on the treadmill I'm taking most of my weight holding on to the bars so I can walk.  It should ease off in time for the session on Tuesday Cool    I do need to start going there over the weekend though.  I'm getting more confident, so I'll start going soon.  Just not this weekend as I've run out of money!!
