Me and my drama

It's not silly things at all Sparkling. That's brilliant about the neighbours sorting some paint for you. I hope the pots are useful for you. xx

Were there not shelves in it before?

It would be an "easy" job to do, but not so easy to pay for them!

Yes there were.  Slats on the top shelve, which they seem to have taken away, and then there's a solid shelve with semi-circle for two other shelves - just the semi-circle doesn't fit around the tank...

It'll be something else that will have to wait.  I've told the children that this will be a slow job, but will be great when we've done it.

I'm going to live with patched up ceilings though.  At £100 a day, it will be a while before I get the ceilings done.

So do you not have hot water again?

Glad your neighbours relative was kind enough to give you some paint. What is it that needs doing to your celings that it would be £100 per day? xxx

The hot water trips out on economy 7, but the boost works - which seems fine with the smaller tank.  Just the boost won't work on Economy 7.  The solar light was flashing away this morning though, so hopefully it was a bargain tank!

I need to boost it again now though, as we've used a fair bit of hot water today.

Painter and decorator that my neighbour asked for a price quoted £100 a day!!

Even if I got up a ladder I'm not able to balance. But I'd rather a rubbish ceiling that needs painting other than a disastor that the boys have done!

I've told them their room is great...

No materials.  My neighbour has also decided she needs to save up to have him too!

I've got too many other things that I need to pay for now though before decorating.

I would also like to bet that you could get a local handyman to do it for a lot less, there are lots of people that are out of work and have set up their own business, OK it might not be the Cistine chapel but would look a lot better, do you have a local magazine where people advertise?

Not really, but I can certainly ask around. I've just accepted it now.  So long as the walls are done - I think!!

Have had an email from the chap who called on Friday to say that he's reported back to say I've declined the painting of walls and ceilings and moving personal stuff was too much for me.

I never mentioned walls.  He didn't either...

It was in Welsh, so I asked my friend to translate it.

It seems he was very concerened about the state of the decoration after the works, which is why he offered to decorate the ceiling and walls.

Funny how he was adamant that what I was asking was unfair - and of course, I never mentioned walls, and neither did he...

Yes, could you not write to him and say

"Dear X

I have received your email. I was surprised you wrote to me in Welsh, as English is my first language. Please communicate with me in English in future.

Once I had had your email translated, I learned that you had had been shocked at the decorative state of my house after the works and offered to have the walls and ceilings painted. In fact you offered to have only the ceilings painted but expected me, a disabled lady, to move all my furniture out of the ground floor, rather than just moving it away from the walls and covering it with dustsheets as is usual with painting.

If you can do this, and can paint the walls and celings as you claim to have offered then that would be great.

Your sincerely"

And cc to someone senior to him!!!!!!!!!!!

I will, and know you're right.  It's something I was talking about with the friend who called  yesterday.  She lives on the estate too.  She had a new kitchen, and the contractors are having to call back to put loads of things right.

People called round for me to sign paperwork for shower.  Seems it will take months rather than weeks...  BUT at least I know!

The thing about a shower is that I know its going to be a while coming.  Personally, I'd love to have it tomorrow!  This way perhaps I can think come Christmas.  Sadly though, it does mean I have to put up with the tiles that are still falling off the wall.  They'll only do the shower too, which means I've "lost" out on a new bathroom.  What they do is quite brilliant.

Never mind.  Can't put a value on the shower.  I can tile the bathroom eventually too.

The garage is flooded.  Not just with water but stinky water.

Our stuff is still in the garage.  Just pulled two bags full of S's cuddly toys dripping from there.  They're in the washing machine now....

Books are dripping and the garage just stinks.  This is my neighbour's garage (I do pay her the rent each month to cover it...)

Can't bring stuff back in until the painting's done, and that is going to take a while.

The living room.  I had a call from the woman in the HA that I spoke to last week.  They're getting a time scale for work to be done in the living room and thinking of moving us out.  I've told her we don't have a problem staying, as we can shut the door on things in there.  It's not like we've sat in there since May anyway.

Seems they're hacking plaster off two walls, tanking it and then re-plastering.  Could be a while before that's done.

They're going to make sure I have the support this time, as she has been quite shocked to hear what did go on here.  I do almost believe her Cool

I'll have to get a load of dustbin bags.  I can see a lot of stuff being chucked.

Oh well.  What does it matter...

Oh bad luck sparklinglime, how frustrating. I think I remember reading earlier on today that there is a lot of stuff that could get chucked, however I presume, not under this pressure.

It sounds as though the woman at the HA is on your side, that is good to read after all you have been through. I hope that you will be able to stay where you are while the work is done.

I hope that you manage to rescue everything that you want from the garage without too much hassle. I guess its not going to be a pleasant job, especially if it is starting to smell too. Does this mean if you get rid of lots of stuff that you won't need to rent a garage and be able to pocket this money?

It's not too bad rent wise, as it's £2 a week - and a bargain really!  I do have a garage and that has the furniture in - hopefully still dry.  At least its not leaked yet...

It all makes me feel inadequate really, as its not that long ago I could chuck stuff about and sort it.

Never mind.

Of course it matters Sparkling. I'm so sorry you're now facing another disaster. I do hope you can salvage some things. Are the children helping you with it? Again, I do hope so, as you'll get through it in no time that way. Glad the woman had sympathy for you regarding the house. Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly, (once it's started that is). Am thinking of you. xxx

You're right... They'll talk through the work with me.

The thing about moving out is selfish, as I have grab rails on the stairs and by the loos, and a bed that is high enough for me to get up without too much effort.

I know youngest could sleep with a friend if it is too bad.

It could be possible to seal the room, and as the living room is close to the front door, they won't be walking through the house too much.

Now if they put us in a travelodge, that wouldn't be too bad as they have disabled rooms.  I just can't see that happening.

I am confident that this will be ok.

(I do hope those aren't going to be famous last words Laughing )

They should have been here this morning taking the heater off the wall ready.

Tomorrow they're hacking off the plaster down to the brick on two walls.

Furniture all covered ready for the dust storm to begin again.

At least most of it can be confined to one room this time.  Quite exciting really as well as at last.  At least it will be if they do turn up at 8am tomorrow.

They did come, and were very nice.

They've taken the plaster off 1m up the wall, so it will be half wall papered and half without.  I don't care, to be honest.  It will have the same colour paint on in the end.

They hacked back to the brick and have then gone half way up with dark cement, which I'm guessing is the tanking bit...

Had a job sheet through for my walk in shower with an end date of 12 February Cry  Its months since I had a shower, only able to have a strip wash and sit on my bath board to soak my feet.  Will be good when done though.

It's a shame that I have to go through this channel though as my friends would have done it at cost.  Would have saved a bit of money for the social services dept...

It will be so lovely when done.  They have the systems all set up in a unit on a local industrial estate, and they are so impressive.
