Can't wait for the big thunderstorms they are forecasting for later on today! I love thunder and to be honest I am fed up with working in an oven here in the office! But like PQ said, it could have waited until Monday?

My daughters last day at school today, so I'd better get ready for 6 weeks of "I'm bored, everybody's away and I have nothing to do!" I tried giving her jobs around the house, but she's not responding well to that, I wonder why?Undecided

Hi all! See, you are not all forgotten! I am enjoying two months off work as I have just had my reconstruction. Feeling a bit stiff still, but it has only been a week and I will be back on my feet in no time.

Hope everybody is alright! And enjoying the lovely lovely weather! :-)

Hi Hopeful, lovely to 'see' you, I am hoping that your surgery went well and glad that you have two months to recover, I hope the weather doesn't agitate your recovery, although I know how you love the sun Cool

Hope you're ok bubblegum.

I hate thunder!!

I'm hoping it will be a good weekend.  The Git and Gittess are home though, so as per usual, him having contact leaves me out of pocket.

I'm blazing and wish he'd just disappear off the face of the earth.  He knows I struggle as Mother-in-Law tells him so (step-mother).  So he makes a point of it being a trip out.  He gets a kick from knowing he'll make things harder for me.

I hate this feeling of loathing.

Me again. Had a lovely holiday in Jersey though a very bad crossing over there, people hanging over the ships' rails and being very sick (not me) and the stewardesses running around wearing rubber gloves. It is a beautiful island though but a long journey from here so I am thinking the next time I go it will be when I am retired, haha.

Been to a wedding party today. My friend from the USA was married aboad recently and they had a UK party today and there is a USA party at Christmas, was good to catch up with everyone, see the wedding video and toast the happy couple. Had to drive there through torrential rain, missed the turning off the A1 and had an interesting detour, never mind we got there in the end.

How are you all? Hope the storms are not too bad (thunder here this evening) We need some sun back for Hopeful now she has some time off. Hope you're making a good recovery?

What's everyone up to this weekend?

Sounds lovely Louise, the wedding and Jersey, so great you had a good time. Here is quiet tonight as my eldest has gone for a sleepover. It has been really busy with kids this week, and went to Alton Towers with some kids yesterday. Glad its holidays, it doesn't feel like weekend, as we have had our first week Smile

My eldest wants to earn some money but he is still 13, so I give him the odd jobs. So sorry Sparkling, that you always need to struggle with money, I can't believe there is no support for you in that respect, how mean.....

Hello Skyflower so yours have broken up now? They have two more days at school here, for some reason. I remember that stage of my boys wanting to earn a bit of extra money, I had the cleanest doorstep in town at one stage as they loved this job. My youngest was always wanting to set up his own business in dog-walking and car-washing and I would never let him as I knew who would end up doing it all! Hope your boys enjoys his sleepover

Hope the weather is better for everyone today, what are you up to and anything interesting in the slow cooker? I am meeting some old college friends then going to a fundraiser in York as another friend is about to go and work on an African charity project and it is her leaving do.

Yes they have broken up since a week, still have to get my head around the fact I have no more schoolrun to do as mine now only have to cross the road in September !! It is ever so quiet everywhere, hardly any cars, as this week was the cheapest to book holidays, everyone seems to have gone.

My father is in a home now and it seems he is really happy there. I have lost him though as he lights up hearing my name when I phone, but there is no recognition anymore. He seems to enjoy being there though and the food is so great for him. It gives peace of mind but i feel very homesick at times. There are times I can absolutely not cope with it anymore and other times I am so grateful with everything around me. I think it is the loneliness I find here and my dad gone, the dad I knew. Going over made it far worst, it was so hard not to stay and having to drive back. I do not want to do that anymore. It took me weeks to recover from it.

My eldest is really looking into criminology now. He would like to be a barrister in criminal law. I know there are Universities in Cambridge and Oxford, but some people seem to say that sometimes there are better programmes elsewhere. It is still some years away, but how does one know which school to chose ?

I am glad it has cooled down a little, these new houses are warm in winter but it was ever so hot and opening windows made no difference. It is so lovely to have good weather. Will walk the dog at the forest here nearby, there is a lovely path down the woods and a very nice coffeehouse with lattes and pannini Smile

Have a lovely day all, hope the leaving do of your friend is lovely for her Louise, you seem to be always busy with something, have fun !

Morning all,

lovely to 'see' you hopeful. Hope your recovery goes well.

Its a shame sparkling that after so many years people still feel the need to push those buttons and twist the knife. It's quite childish I think. I'm curious to read Louise's bossy post!

Glad you had a good trip to Gurnsey Louise. If I'd been on that ferry I would have been one of those leaning over the side.....I don't travel well on boats!

We've had a good weekend so far. Yesterday went into a nearby town as they had a sports event in the high st. Lots of free activities for the girls to join in with. Then when we got back they played in the garden in the paddling pool. I think other children most be able to sense when we get it out as we seemed to have a house full, but they all had great fun so I don't mind. Not sure what we'll do today. Just chill out at home I think. I need to sort my bedroom out as I've decided to have my bedroom sorted properly so I've booked for a decorator to come in at the end of august. He's going to strip all the wall paper, make the walls good and paint...if it was left to me I'd be doing it in my retirement!!

I'm so glad you enjoyed your holiday Louise - despite the crossing. I hope you enjoyed the party after you arrived.

My eighteen year old has been helping me with the kitchen.  I will be getting him so plane models.  If I pay him he'll buy sweets and coke.  I'm glad your father is settled skyflower.  I can only imagine how hard things are for you.

The one room that is almost sorted in my place pq, is my bedroom.  The rest is chaotic.  Especially with the things being up in the air with the kitchen.  The joiner was unable to come yesterday.  I do hope he can come next weekend though...

My friend's birthday.  By yesterday evening I was calmer.  The wedding was done, so no point crying any more tears - and I did cry loads in the morning.  I don't even like weddings!  If I hadn't known him all my life, I wouldn't have been upset.  I set up the business I now work for to make sure he had a secure life...  Never mind.

My friend has really enjoyed his birthday so far.  Not that I've made a fuss, I have done what I usually do.  He says no one has done anything like this for him before.  Made sure his youngest (15) was with us yesterday evening, and his eldest called in today.  We've been out in the sunshine for an ice cream.

I do hope everyone is ok.  I'm sorry for having been miserable.

Louise - I rely on your bossy replies to get me through.  I always appreciate them.xx

Ooh lots of news from everyone!

Skyflower, there are a few different routes into law careers, you can take a law degree at Uni then do time with either solicitors or barristers, but this work is often unpaid. The school will have a careers service and I would recommend your son has a chat with them, or they will refer him to a general careers service in your area. the various Unis have online information and click here to download a booklet for one of them. I am sorry to hear you find things difficult with regards to your dad...when someone dies you mourn them but when they develop a disease like Alzheimers then the mourning starts when they are still alive.

PQ your girls had fun this weekend and I say Hooray to the decorator, you will love getting your boudoir in order. What are you working over the sumer hols?

Sparkling it sounds like your friend enjoyed his birthday, well done you...and yes I hope too that the joiner gets a move on!

My reunion was lovely and the send off for the other friend was fab, with African songs and ukuleles and lots of fun activities, I saw some old friends too. What a weekend! Back to reality now, and trying to hold my nerve while youngest texts me from his 18-30 holiday to say he has been jet skiing and that his friend has had a tattoo on his bottom Sealed

Hope you all have a good week

I am working most of the holidays louise, although some weeks I am doing a shorter day. Its been quite stressful getting child care cover as I have had to co-ordinate lots of different things, but I think I've managed it. My manager has been really supportive which has helped enormously.

Glad your friend enjoyed his birthday sparkling, you don't have to go mad to make someone feel special.

PQ, I'm sure you took loads of photos.  Our children do grow up so quickly.

I did get the thing done on time, and did a bit more work on something else.  I've got another accreditation thing to finish, but I can't do anymore on my side, but waiting for the boss to do some work...

Youngest and I are off to the gym soon.  Not been an easy day emotionally for my older two...  Waiting for this kitchen isn't helping.  The joiner wasn't able to come on Saturday and isn't sure when he can come.  Trying to find another now.

I am not going to moan about the heat, oh no, far be it from me to even think I will be happier when it cools down a bit, keeping my mouth zipped Sealed and hiding behind the settee (with a cold flannel on my forehead, ha)

Well done on your prize, PQ, great to be recognised for your hard work. Is H going up to secondary school in September then?

Great day for you for you, kiera, your daughter's graduation. I am pleased to hear that your skin is better.

Sparkling, have you any plans for a certain important date that is approaching this week? Wink

A quiet day for me at last, I have been so busy since coming back from holiday catching up with various people. At my college reunion last week one of my friends said I really do think of you often and I don't get chance to write a long email. I said why not just send me a pic then I will know you are thinking of me,....when I turned my phone on this morning, there was a smiley face and some kisses from her, I sent her back a flower. I think that's a really nice way to let someone know they are in your thoughts.

Have a good day and I will be back later Cool

Thats a lovely idea Louise. I'm going to use that today. My dear friend's father died yesterday and I want to let her know that I am thinking of her, sometimes words feel so inadequate at times like this.

Yes H is off to senior school in september. Its quite a milestone for all of us. For me it the end of childcare which feels really strange as I have relied on the support and friendship of our childminder for 10 years. I will miss her loads. And for H she will get some of the independence she is so desparate for, I think she is looking forward to going, although you can never tell with her, she can be quite closed sometimes.

I've been up for  while and managed to make a massive dent in the ironing pile.....I know I can hear your groans Louise!!....but I just can't give it up Laughing.

I'm sorry about your friend's Dad pq.  There isn't anything that can be said really, but I'm sure she knows you're there.

I was speaking to my neighbour this morning at the top of the estate.  I've not seen them for a while and thought they'd been on holiday - he had mentioned it...  Sadly his wife was taken ill and it is cancer.  She is very poorly.  It is so sad.  She's so lovely...  And only just retired.

It is too hot to do anything much really, so being lazy.  Other than washing the clothes, the dishes and the bathroom, it is a lazy day.  I'll go for a ride later.

My friend's son is there this weekend, so rarely hear from him.

As for my birthday, I believe that this is going to be sorted this year.  Usually I give the children money to buy something...  However, running out of time for that!  I just might have to relent.

I'm having an early birthday tea with some girlfriends on Tuesday - it should have been on Friday, but one of them is having to work.  I'm hoping my colleague from work will join us too.

Saturday I'll be going out with the family, my friend and my daughter's boyfriend.  All being well, of course...

I like the idea of sending a picture Louise.  A friend in Kent and I do this.  I got to know her through Scouting.

I hope everyone is ok.

Aha pq some are born to iron, some achieve ironing and some have ironing thrust upon them. Sorry to hear about your friend's bereavement, and she will be glad to hear from you. Yes, it's a big milestone for your youngest to leave the junior school. I remember shedding a few tears at that point in my own life.

Sparkling, a birthday tea, that's nice. Hope you got your quiet day. I fell asleep this afternoon, whoops. Blame the heat!

My youngest got back from his Kavos holiday in one piece, by the way. One of his mates had a disastrous week with tattoos on his bottom, two visits to Greek A and E and collapsed at the airport on the way back, was bundled onto the plane where he was on oxygen for the whole journey and straight into an ambulance when he got back to the UK...he is taking some medication which does not mix with alcohol and been drinking on the holiday.

Hope you all have a decent evening

Morning everyone,

My mother in law is coming over for lunch later. H isn't well. She had a temperature of 39 yesterday, trying to cool here down when its so warm is not easy. She slept well but has woken with a fever again, lots of paracetamol and went sponges are in order I think.

It seems to be a bit cooler this morning which is good, I love the warm weather but it does sap your energy. Luckily I don't seem to have trouble sleeping, in fact I've still got my winter duvet on Surprised.

Hope creche goes well this morning Louise and glad your son survived Kavos in one piece. My nephew is in Magaluf at the moment, it is a worry!

Sounds like you have some nice things planned for your birthday Sparkling.

Have fun at the creche Louise - braver than me!

I pottered yesterday, and am pottering today.  This house retains heat rather too well.  I want to sort the living room out this morning.  It will be challenging as the cupboards, oven and various bits are in there.  Doesn't mean the children have to make the rest of it a tip though!

The weather is making things a bit too hot to do much more than potter.  As are the wonky legs.  I seem to be sitting down more nowadays than doing.  Get there eventually.

I sent for some loom bands yesterday.  My first present to me!  I have to remember that I have to pay a joiner - if one ever turns up - so have to restrain myself this year.

I'm sorry H isn't feeling good pq.  I hope she feels better as the day goes on.  There seems to be a few who are poorly about at the moment.

Poor H, hope she soon feels better, seems to be lots of people around with upset tummies in this neck of the woods (not from my cooking! I mean people we know) I am really shocked at the use of your winter duvet, I just have a cotton throw over me, I wish I could snuggle under a duvet, I manage to get under a summer one for only about three months during the coldest of the winter.

Creche was a bit hectic, I think all the little ones have spent the last couple of weeks not sleeping well so they were all a bit cranky. The smallest one, about 8 months old, was blowing raspberries and I said to her "How often, G, do we ALL want to blow raspberries at life? I agree entirely" The other ladies were laughing.

Ooh sparkling, loom bands, I have seen so many people making them lately, how exciting.

Found some half price cherries at the local Co-op so that's what I have eaten this afternoon.

Thank you very much :-))

My birthday is on Saturday, just one of my dear friend's is working after today, hence the early birthday tea - a girls night out.  I'm the chauffer and will go and pick them all up - work tomorrow...

I'm on some panels with the housing associaition.  'Our' association has merged with another, and one of their practices was to give all panel members an iPad (on loan), so save on paper and postage.  Today I've been on a five hour training course.  I didn't think it would be possible to teach anything over that time, but they did - mainly with a document reader thing.

Next meeting in is September.  iPad now in the drawer!!!!  To scared to touch it in case I break it lol  Unfortunately my eyes are no feeling very tired.  Glad we're only going up the road.

Glad H is feeling better pq.  I hope their Father listens to them...

Loom bands have not arrived yet, but the hook has :-(  Maybe tomorrow...

Friend's new settee is arriving tomorrow, he might find that I am more interested in loom bands than the settee.  If they arrive.

Joiner has pulled out of fitting the kitchen.  Now trying to find another.  My builder friend is on the case.  I'm covering my full time colleague next week.  The overtime will be very handy for this.

I hope everyone is ok

Careful with the loom bands Sparkling. They are addictive!

Break up day tomorrow - yay! I am ready for a week off to spend some time with my little man, although he wants to do so much work may be the easier option. Although he is into reading on my Kindle at the moment. I've had the new paper white one as my old one broke and couldn't be repaired so they sent me a nice cheque. Managed to buy it off Tesco for less than the refund cheque by using vouchers! J loves it, so I have downloaded him some free books. He's been set a reading goal of 20 mins per day and it gives him achievements. One way to get him to read during the holidays!

The rats have finally left my garden! We actually sat outside last night for the first time this summer. Kept feeling I was being watched though!
