Oh, but you can tell that the holiday season has started! Anna has been off for a few days, and of course I would forget to start the July chat thread! I'll never hear the end of this one...

Probably because it is too hot to think today, we got 30 degree in the One Space office. Could be Malaga...

Sparkling, sounds really tough for your son, hope the new job takes his mind off the loss. It must feel very much like the end of a relationship. Hope he'll get over it.

PQ how the wildlife?

I saw my son for about five minutes today.  He's gone off somewhere again.  We did have a quick chat.  He's full of cold, which I don't suppose is really helping.

It is very windy outside.  The weather has been so calm and lovely this is a bit alien!

For me a goodbye to the school run soon, one more week to go and finished standing on the playground. Don't even need a car anymore. Will walk the commons with a friend and her little one, have a coffee there.

Hope your son will feel better soon Sparkling, it must be so tough on him losing his work family. x

Oh Keira that's wonderful, congratulations to your daughter, you must be so proud :)

Hello Skyflower! I'm okay... plodding along, trying to make plans and be positive :) How are you? That's so exciting about your son starting secondary, I can't imagine either of mine being that big!! It must be a strange feeling, very freeing though! I can't wait until I don't have to do school runs any more haha!

I'm currently negotiating the minefield that is applying for a student loan; they gave me the wrong information when i first applied and it turns out I need a whole shedload more ID evidence than they originally said, so I'm trying to get all the paperwork together and scrape together enough money to get a passport, so the loan can be in place for the start of my course in October. It's stressful but I am really looking forward to starting. It's been a long time coming. :)

It is great not to have to do the school run anymore, but also scary as it is going so fast ! before I know it they are in Uni ! I really hope you can sort it out just_immi, it sounds so exciting to start studying again and open a world of new possibilities....

heard today on the radio that since a few months food prices went 25% up whilst salaries only went 9% up...I did notice lately that shopping was costing so much more, and since my eldest is bringing so many kids around, this is costing me at least 250 pounds a month...how are all of you coping with this? Child Maintenance only depends on the salaries so we all miss out.....

Budgeting just gets harder, doesn't it?  Maintenance here has always been laughable, I'm afraid.  £32 a month for four for years, but it did go up to £58 the last three years.  He's now graduated though and has a good job lined up in Bath.  Good timing though, as only one is under 18!  Not that the maintenance has been the issue here with The Git.

Have a brilliant day Kiera.  I know you are proud, but be proud of you too for supporting her.

Skyflower, it will be an emotional day.

I know when youngest finished primary it meant the same for me, as in no school run.  I only took him in the morning as it was too dangerous with parents focusing on going to work for him to cross the road nearest the school.  In the evening they had someone stopping traffic.

Off to the gym now...

I hope everyone has a good day.  It's raining here...

Thank you Skyflower, yes it's super exciting, I always regretted not going to university when I was younger and I'm still regretful that I missed out on the uni "experience" but I'm so thrilled to finally be able to do something I want to do :)

Sparkling lime, oh man how on earth have you managed! 38 a month for 4 kids is truly laughable.  It is SO hard to budget. You've reminded me actually, I need to update my budget sheet (not that I ever seem to look at it! oops!). Hope you enjoyed the gym!

The rain has hit here too but it's actually really lovely, just a few summery showers here and there have taken the edge off the heat. I LOVE the summer and the hot weather but the afternoon school runs have been hell, with two grumpy hot and bothered kids, and a steaming hot bus full of miserable kids all the way home! Ha!

I'm very excited because the council are finally replacing my kitchen next week, the cupboards have been falling apart and actually rotting in places for a long time, it's gross and even when I spend hours cleaning it still looks tatty and horrible.  But the man has been in to measure up - and I'm getting a new corner cupboard AND a new space next to the washing machine so my tumble dryer can go underneath rather than in the corner, taking up room where the dining table should go! I'm so excited that we're going to have a nice space to use now, and it's inspired me to crack on with decorating the rest of the house.  it's seriously in need. I want a home I can be proud of that's all me and the kids, and not a tatty hangover from my marriage! :)

Hope everyone has had a lovely weekend. I've been full of cold and a nasty cough so had a really lazy one. We have spent this afternoon with friend for a mums and kids afternoon on friends garden with trampoline and paddling pool. J has come home absolutely shattered and I'm not far behind him. It's tiring doing nothing!

Got solicitors appointment tomorrow to try and sort financials out, and it's J's sports day on Tuesday. He's so excited bless him. He got moved up two levels on reading this week, completely skipping a level out. When I think back to November and teacher didn't think he would get to the level he needed to be at by the end of the year I am so proud of him as he has now surpassed this. So exhausted for some reason tonight, I think I'm going to hit the sack super early. Tomorrow I have to empty out my kitchen into the rest of my house and I just have no idea where everything is going to go, it'll all be worth it but I'm super anxious about how long it's all going to take. Good for you Immi, what are you going to be studying? great news about getting a new kitchen.

Sounds like you have had a busy weekend with your boys skyflower, I know what you mean about teen lads, they are like a swarm of locusts eating everything in sight that does not need cooking.

Looby it is good to hear from you, that's such fab news about J's reading levels, hoe he does well at his sports day tomorrow!

I'm so glad L enjoyed her birthday.  It sounds lovely.  I hope they get over their colds quickly.

Kitchen is coming along. Slowly, but that's ok as we need to do as much as we can ourselves...

I phoned the surgery yesterday as I hadn't heard from the hospital about the left hip - usually a letter is sent out to say how long you can expect to wait.  I hand't heard...  Anyway, it seems it will be 10-12 months before I'll hear, never mind getting an appointment and possibly more.  I figure if I'm lucky perhaps I'll be 60 by the time both hips are done.   That's where a lottery win would give choices.  Walking again would have been good... But then I'm so lucky in that it is only pain.

Work was a busy and challenging day.

Youngest had a good day with his work experience.  He's at kennels that I used to take my dogs to, many moons ago.  It was lovely to see one of the owners.  They gave my son a good day, and got out photos of my dogs and showed him Christmas cards that I'd sent from the dogs!!  Going back 20 years :-))

Kiera, have a good time.  I hope the sun shines.

I do hope everyone is ok.

Thank you Sally :) I'll be doing the English Lit degree I've always wanted to do, and despite dealing with student finance being a neverending ballache I CANNOT wait. :)  Sounds like the birthday went well, swimming is so much fun! I hope the colds clear out soon.

Ah sparkling, are you in kitchen hell too?? Mine has been ripped out, they reckon the units are going in tomorrow... I hope you're not in chaos for too much longer. We can't move in our house, there isn't enough space for everything!  So sorry to hear about the appointment, it's awful that you might have to wait all that time :( is there anything they can do for your pain in the meantime?

What a day, the house is in utter chaos! Builder was here all day ripping nearly all of the old kitchen out, we can't move elswhere in the house because there's no room for everything. I really don't do well with this kind of abject disarray, the kids think its funny that there's stuff everywhere though. I feel bad because I'm so stressed out and snappy but tomorrow they're putting the units in thank goodness. I'll be able to put away a lot of the stuff and then with any luck it'll be all finished by thursday!

Also today my deed poll documents arrived in the post, I took them to my best friend's house and we signed them together and toasted my "mini-divorce" with a clink of our coffee cups :) now it's just (just!) a case of making a million calls and writing a million letters to make it all official but then it'll be done :) So happy!

How are we all this evening?

We had a busy time here with school as they had a musical and my son sang so beautifully his solos on Tuesday and Wednesday it was  sportsday and a farewell to the year 6's going bowling followed by pizzahut. My son was crying in the car on the way back, saying he couldn't believe Friday would be his last day he would see them all. (Today his school is on strike) As the village school is so small and there is no secondary, they are all going to 3 different schools in 3 different surrounding towns. 3 others will go with him, but he will miss most of his class.

Morning all,

Its been a while since I last posted on here.

I've had a busy time. I went to a conference at the begining of the week and presented some work I've been doing so have had lots to do around that. The presentation went really well and I had lots of interest in my work which was great but it was very tiring.

Everyone sounds so busy. Good luck with the kitchens. I remember when mine was done, my house was in chaos. I ended up putting loads of things in my shed!

Kiera, great news about your daughter.

My youngest is moving up to secondary school in september so we have had lots of school activites this week and next. I can't believe that part of our lives is over, it makes me feel quite sad, but happy too to be moving into a new phase.

My eldest decided to cut herself a fringe in her hair yesterday. She has made a terrible job of it and it looks awful (although she thinks its great) the sad thing about it is she told me a whole load of lies about how it happened and then got really angry with me when I challenged her about it. I hate being lied to and have grounded her, but now I am thinking that I may have over reacted.....

Oh heck pq...  I remember my third child cutting his fringe when he was about 8.  He was too hot so cut it.  The hairdresser did his best.  Lying is what really bugs me too...

I will be thinking of all of you with children moving up to high school.  Mixed emotions for the children, yet almost devastating for the parent as it's another chapter in their lives.  I know I cried buckets with all four of mine, although by the time my youngest moved up the primary school had changed so much I was also relieved to be ending the association with it...

Loads of hugs.

Here it is dry PQ I hope it is still doable for them, and great your conference went so well, hope your gliss gliss have gone completely as well.

Today is my last time for the school run, and at 2 we have leavers assembly. Had to run thismorning to the shop as all the boys were going with bed hair and I had lots of gel but no hairspray, he looks terrible right now.

It will be so different as apart from the school run, the secondary school does nothing for parents apart from parent evening. It will be a lonely time. Am reading the Alchemist Anna what a nice book to read, thank you,

and they have just come to tell me that the drainage is blocked and the main manholes need to be opened. I only have my borders of the garden since 3 weeks and they have messed up the borders with the manhole, my garden is half a meter smaller as one of the main man holes is right on our border. In itself maybe not such a problem as my new neigbour and I are friends, but what if I want to sell the house? The border should be where I have paid for. I don't want to have to sort it out later. They told me I should not worry because it wouldn't get blocked, and there we are, it is blocked.

The main office have told me now that there will be two options but wont discuss it on the phone and they will go on holidays, so I will hear in 3 weeks time. (does not discussing it on the phone mean I might be unhappy with their solution? ) And hopefully my bees nest since 12th of June will be sorted next Monday.

Have a lovely weekend all, I will be off soon to the leavers assembly and yes Sparkling, the memories we have ARE amazing and priceless Smile

Guess what? I AM DIVORCED!!!

Went to see solicitor on Monday to discuss financials and she told me she had a surprise for me and showed me my decree absolute. I am still grinning. Everyone keeps asking if I'm ok and doesn't believe me when I say I am. Obviously a tiny part of me feels sad for the fact that things didn't work out, but I feel as though a weight has been lifted. Just need to sort the money out now!

We have also had a busy week school wise. There's been a school trip, sports day, various assemblies and school report yesterday. I am one proud mum at the minute. J's report is excellent :-). He has been praised for his hard work in reading, told he really needs to work on his handwriting (it is dreadful) and that he needs to slow down and take his time. He has excelled at maths and shows a 'definite flair for the subject'. I am so proud of him, he has made such good progress this year. I'm also quite proud of me too.....

Morning all,

The sports day was cancelled due to the rain. Its been rescheduled for Monday but I don't think I'll be able to go as my diary is full. Now I'm on a guilt trip, not helped by H telling me I never go to her things, not true I know but still stung Frown.

Its my eldest's show weekend. H and I went to see her last night, we were so proud, she really has bossomed over the last few years. I'll be back again this afternoon to watch the matine and prize giving.

Thanks Sally, I feel beter about the hair incident now. A was very upset about it all and apologised for lying. She made me a cake which was really sweet.

My overflow pipe to the water tank in the roof is dripping water at night. I put a bucket under it before I went to bed to see how much water is coming out and it had overflowed. I've been on youtube to watch a video to see how easy it is to change the ball cock myself, it looks quiet straightforward. Has anyone here attempted thier own repairs before? I think I could do it, just feel a bit apprehensive.

Hi everyone, here the holidays have started already and most are gone as this week is the cheapest of them. I have had so many sleepovers I can't count them and feel a bit exhausted with it, as my house is kind of raided though they are ever so grateful and polite with everything....its just the house is such a mess all the time and the moment I have cleaned it they turn up again, switching the sprinkler on under the trampoline and then jump on it, the towels, wet grass and wet clothes seem never ending with 5, 6 lads at a time. I have put a stop to it and last night the house was silent, tonight only one will sleep here, how peaceful is that. How wonderful A did so well and Looby what wonderful news.

PQ how amazing you can just do all that. You are so independent, I hope it went well with the water tank

I'm going into work this morning.  I'm starting to wonder if I'll get some hours back...

I haven't done anything about my water tank yet, still trying to get my courage up!

The will writer came last night so thats out of the way and I've got a decorator coming round to look at my bedroom as I'm fed up with the progress of my wallpaper stripping!

sparkling, thats great news about the uni stuff! Student finance is such a pain in the bum, it's great that you've been able to sort that out for her. sorry you've not been sleeping, I hope you're able to get some rest soon.

skyflower that sounds manic, well done you for getting through it!

Sally, so glad your kids enjoyed their sports day!

How are things with you Kiera?

Well.... my kitchen is finished! Such a relief to not have stuff everywhere and builders in and out. They've managed to b*gger something up with the water (the pressure upstairs is awful all of a sudden) and I have one cupboard door that's a different colour to the rest, which they've promised to change when they get more stock. But apart from that it's DONE and it's looking so much better. I love being in it, I love cooking in it.

Ex has now resorted to outright lies about me - he's been telling his most recent ex (who he's expecting a baby with) that he's been paying my phone/broadband all this time and that's partly why he's not got any money to contribute to the baby. Absolute lies, the contract was in his name (we took it out just before we split) and I've been paying him 30/month via standing order to cover the costs.  So he is painting me as this awful woman who is rinsing him for every penny just to cover his own backside, and it's just not true :( I feel like he's never going to stop trying to punish me.

He's cancelled the phone etc now, finally, and I've ordered my new phone/broadband but my current one gets cut off tomorrow, so I'll be without internet for two weeks Yell I have 3G at home so it's not too bad but data can be a bit shaky. I'm nervous about feeling cut off, you guys here and my Twitter are like my lifelines!

We're all counting down the days to the summer holidays here, the kids are beyond exhausted, as am I!

We don't! He got through the filter.....drop us an email at info@onespace.org.uk if you see him back, we really do not agree with ANY type of pay day loan, and especially not with ones that spam our forum!

I'm so glad you enjoyed the show pq.  Well done to A too. I hope her chin gets better quickly.  How lovely H choosing a dress.  I'm still waiting for my daughter to become a bit more feminine.  She's 20.  I could be fighting a losing battle here.

I'm glad the kitchen is sorted Immi.  How nice is your ex - NOT!!

The worktops have arrived here this morning.  The sink too, but I think its too big...

My daughter is hoping to do bio-medical science.  No idea what it entails 8-))

I've been into work this morning to meet up with possibly a new health and safety advisor.  I might go on some courses too to see if I can get qualified.  Nice to meet someone who hates it as much as me!!  Know its a means to an end though.  I'll be working tomorrow too.

I hope everyone is ok.

H had her leavers school play today, very emotional, shed a few tears!!

Re-training sounds like an idea sparkling?

Its been lovely and warm again today, however it looks like the weather is due to change over the weekend which is a shame for those of us who have worked all week Frown.

Hi Immi, shame about the lies from your ex. Just remember that it says more about him than you.
