Hello everyone, is it really July 2013? Really?

I haven't started one of the these threads for a while, so this is fun! I just had a look at our July 2012 thread and still can't believe that was a year ago!

So here we are again, school is winding down again for the summer hols, pq's birthday is coming up.

sparklinglime, where did you run to yesterday? Did you get a break?

kiera I hope you had a nice family day, how is your leg/bottom?

Hopeful, kushifeet looked like a great event, I hope you had fun?

My daughter came home but I have hardly seen her! Although exhausted from nights out in Zante, she seems to be continuing the trend over here.

The chatroom has been quite quiet for a while, I hope everyone is well and enjoying the sunshine Smile

I only went about five miles up the road, and sat and watched the clouds, and the sheep...  I texted a friend a few hours later and she treated me to a meal out, which was lovely.

I then called in to see my 'aunty'.  Her older two children were there and we had a nice evening.  I got home about 9.40pm and went straight upstairs.

No one missed me mind!!

They did really, sparkling, they probably know you sometimes need a bit of time out. It sounded a peaceful day anyway and kind of your friend with the meal.

July wow! If I was a meanie I would say Christmas is coming but I'm not, so I won't Tongue Out

This morning...I was sitting on the bed reading, fully showered and clothed and my son wandered in wearing an alarming pair of boxer shorts, laid on the bed and I had a Contraception Chat with him, getting round the potential embarrassment of the topic by saying in a washerwoman voice that I hoped he wasn't flushing unsuitable items down the loo or the drains would get blocked. This reduced him to helpless laughter so that it was easy to say then what I really meant. Sometimes I think we parents have to be top psychologists! But no, I didn't get a cup of tea Frown

What's everyone up to this evening? I am going out to a country pub with my friend, she has just got back from a solo trip abroad so I will look forward to hearing about that.

Kiera how is your leg?

Morning one and all, gosh it has been quiet in here!

Yes, fab time with my friend. She has been to Crete on her own, arrived at the airport at the dead of night, picked up a car and then drove round the island to her accommodation, Superwoman or what!

Visited eldest yesterday in his new studio flat. I could practically see the word "PROUD" written over his head. it's a lovely little place and I feel delighted for him.

What's everyone doing today? and how may weeks till the school hols now?

Hello everyone,

Had a stressful day at work yesterday and feel a bit flat today as a result. Went on a very boring date on sunday, 2 hours of my life I wont get back, bless him he was very sweet but all he could talk about was his work in I.T.

Did any one watch Luther last night? I had to check under my bed before I went to sleep!

Your friends holiday to Crete sounds lovely Louise. The peace is very appealing.

Hi there, Louise your friends holiday sounds marvellous!

pq sorry to hear that you had a stressful day at work yesterday, I hope today's was better? So the date you went on on Sunday, was it with the same chap as before?

I haven't seen Luther, but I did see the guy in The Wire, he looks just like an old boyfriend of mine!!

I hope everyone else is doing ok and feeling good that the weekend is on its way Cool

My daughter seems to be just passing through again, today she is busy washing her clothes from Zante ready to pack for Blissfields festival! Oh to be an 18 year old girl again........hmmmmm, but with the wisdom of a 40yr old!!

Hello everyone, stupidly I have been refreshing the June thread wondering where you all went?!! Sometimes I wonder about myself!!

i haven't really got much to tell you about except I Han very proud of myself as have finally reached a healthy BMI. been trying to lose weight most of my adult life with ww and swget it so far then thought I could do it myself. This time was determined I would do it! And I have! Have gone from a BMI of 32 to 24.7. I am now a size 12-14. Feel much more energectic and healthy for it. Just gotta stay here now. It's been a struggle with everything that's going on but gotta do it for my kids!

Ex is playing the "your mentally unstable" game, but I'm 99.9% sure I'm doing just fine and its him with the problems. After all I'm coping with a stressful responsible job, motherhood, going through separation and I'm managing to take good care of my self where as he drinks to much and gambles and lives off takeaways. Think he just can't stand vein the one in the wrong.

hope you are all ok x

Hello one and all

Hey Rosie you have done so well with the weight loss, glad you feel really proud of yourself. You're right, you have to keep steady with yourself no matter how he is behaving, I think you're doing a marvellous job Laughing

Yes, I watched Luther, SCARYVILLE! I love things like that.

PQ was this  a new chap that you met? It's always dull when anyone drones on about their work. I met one or two who just talk about their ex as well Cry Hope work is better

How are you doing, sparkling?

The date on sunday was with somebody new, but I wont be seeing him again. He's emailed me saying that he wants to go out again but I haven't replied yet, I'm not very good at rejecting people.

Work continues be hard. They are scrutinizing all the nurses at my level and we are having to keep a work diary stating what we are doing every 15 mins. Its quite stressful as I'm not really sure what they are going to do with the diary once I've done it. I'm trying not to dwell on it too much but its making me feel quite vulnerable.

Hi Rosie78, well done with the weight loss, you are right to be proud of yourself. Take no notice of your ex and keep focusing on yourself and your children.

Hi all

Rosie big high five to you! I hope you feel very proud of yourself, it is not easy losing weight and it is not easy keeping it off either, so keep vigilant!

Hi sparklinglime, I hope you are having a good day and also have some good weather too.

pq, I have no idea where hazeleyes is, perhaps she has met a new man! Cool (see if that brings her back online!! Wink)

So you need to let this chap down and you don't want to be harsh. How about "I enjoyed meeting you however I didn't feel the 'click' that I was hoping for, good luck with xyz (work, computers, databases, anything IT) and your search.  Its the **** sandwich, say what you need in between two nice things adding humour if possible.

As for the work diary, I can imagine that you feel really scutinised (as if you have time every 15mins to jot down what you are up to!) I am sure that whatever you are doing will be fine, there might be people taking too many breaks and they are trying to catch them out perhaps??

Sweaty yoga for me tonight, hurrah can't wait!

Ooh hope you enjoyed your hot yoga, Anna. My book club was good, we are all getting more friendly which is nice, and one of the women lent me a DVD (of "The Help") We were all talking about our views on a particular book and joking about it and one lady said "haha maybe we all need therapy" I thought whoops better not tell them I actually am a therapist!! Embarassed

Yes, Hazeleyes we have been wondering what you have been up to Cool

PQ I would hate doing that diary. In the short term it is rather self-defeating as you soend so much time writing it you get LESS work done. I do sympathise about the internet dating, I once met a chap a bit younger than me, we had talked for a while and when we met I realised he was thinking of me as someone who would look after him, he had two small children alternate weekends yet was intending to dump them with his parents and had it all planned out how he would get such and such a train on Fridays and stay at my house (and presumably be fed) each weekend. In saying "no" I did not want to be as personal as this so I decided to take the blame on myself and say I thought I would be happier with someone older, with a bit of money (thereby making myself the baddie) BIG MISTAKE, he sent me a load of emails about how materialistic I was, how dreadful I was for not ringing him all the time on his mobile and how awful I was for accepting a couple of halves of lager from him...eeek I  was a single mum with low wages and I then realised he imagined as I was older, I had some money!!!! I decided to ignore all his emails and they did stop after a couple of weeks. So anyway I think Anna's suggestion is excellent, tell the truth but in a kind way Smile

What's everyone up to today? I have a church thing this morning and this afternoon am going into town with my 6 foot 3 "baby".

I am going on holiday tomorrow for a week and you will be glad to know that our very own Rudimentary Mary will be with you while I'm off Laughing

Hi all - hope everyone is doing well, now summer is finally here! I have had a lay in this morning - didn't get home from work till about ten - the lady I was looking after (and who was fine all day) decided to take a very funny turn just in time for handover and thus had 5 nurses on the go - Really irritating: the sill on-call house officer (always happens at weekends this) didn't believe me when I told him to come, and strolled in after we'd called out the Registrar who was dealing with everything. He (house officer) said 'the obs (blood pressure etc) didn't sound so bad over the phone'! He was about 15 I think, and how I didn't slap him for that I don't know!

Will watch the tennis and cheer on the German girl now. :-)

It sounds like some of us have been out making the most of the weather - or staying in and enjoying the tennis.

A and I had a walk into town, where we did a bit of 'fun' shopping (a top for her and a skirt for me) before getting an ice cream and doing the supermarket shop. We managed an hour or so in the garden before tea, too - and I had my legs out all day & nobody made sick making noises Wink

Hi everyone,

It was A's show weekend so spent saturday being mum's taxi service and sunday afternoon stuck inside a hot theatre, I feel like the only person in the world who didn't watch the tennis (apart from the 100 people stuck in the theatre with me of course!). A picked up a trophy so we all feel very proud.

The paddling pool sounds like a great idea Anna, my girls were desparate for one but I don't suppose you can buy one for love or money now!

Hi Mary, nice to 'see you' again. I haven't been put off dating, but I do feel a bit disillusioned with it all, meeting people via the internet feels a bit forced and false sometimes.

Hi Anna, I sat out in the garden last night until about 11. I lit some candles, listened to Guy Garvey on the radio and read my book, it was pure bliss. These warm evenings are amazing Cool

Hi pq, I didn't watch the tennis either Cool. Congrats on A's trophy! Good for her! Try Argos or Tescos for paddling pools they both have cheapies in at the moment. Mine cost £3.50 from Woolies years ago, I can't get completely in, but its still lovely!! I wonder if kiera has hers up yet? Hi everyone.

Hope everyone is enjoying this lovely weather, J is out in the paddling pool as I'm typing this.

Things have not been too good the past couple of weeks regarding ex and J and me. I'm still processing things at the minute. Basically ex has asked for us to give it another go. He's apologised, genuinely this time. I'm not sure how I feel about it all if I'm honest.

Also to annoy me I've had a letter from tax credits today. They wanted me to send in proof of my childcare, which i did. They have written back today to say that they accept my information and do not need to change my award , yay, but that they do not accept that the income I declared is correct and have adjusted it to be what my employer declared, a difference of £600 odd. Well yes you muppet its different because i have taken off the contributions i have made to a pension, which i am allowed to do. My award has now been finalised on the incorrect income he has adjusted it to. Of course I've got to wait until the morning to contact them, as the office closed at five. Why don't they contact you to see what the difference is, before finalising your award. Grrrr. That'll probably mean different payment amounts for the next few weeks. Can't wait for the phone call in the morning.

it is J's first sports day tomorrow and he is very excited. He's even said he needs an early night tonight so he has lots of energy for tomorrow. No arguing from me there!

Hello all,

Hi there Looby; it sounds as though you have a great deal of thinking to do at present - and it also sounds as though you're giving the matter in hand it's due amount of attention. Just do what you want to do, don't be persuaded to do what your ex wants x

As for Working Families, I agree - they seem to be sticklers for the 'correct information' only when it suits them. I hope you manage to get hold of someone there today and get your payments sorted out.

Hopeful, I hope your motivation continued, despite the glorious weather.

Well done to A from me, pq. I love Guy Garvey's voice - your evening in the garden sounds fantastic to me.

Looby, I'm putting my tax credit claim together at the moment and I'm dreading it. Last year they investigated me for fraud as my ex was still using my address for loans etc so they thought he still lived with me. They said they would automatically re-open the investigation this year and I know my ex has continued to use my address for loans so not sure what they will do about that! Something thats supposed to make life easier for you has become a real problem! Also I didn't know you could take off your pension contributions? Tell me more!

PQ - The Git did this with me, using the address I moved to after we split up.  I did one of these credit check and was able to make a note on my records that he and I were no longer associated and he did not live with me.  It might not help things with the HMRC, but it may do with other things.

Gorgeous here.

Thanks sparkling, I have disassociated myself from him financially so his debts don't affect me but unfortunately the HMRC don't look at it that way. I am sure they can't actually charge me with anything as I am not making a fraudulent claim, its just the stress of having to justify everything when I haven't done anything wrong, it seems so unfair. I have talked to my ex about this and he openly admitted that he still uses the address!

Gorgeous here too!

Hi all, another day in paradise!! (aside from tax credits forms and ex's!)

Looby, I think it is great that your ex's apology was genuine, that means that whatever happens in the future you are on level pegging. Personally I don't think you need to know how you feel right now. You, J and your ex have been through a tumultuous year, things need to calm down, if you enjoy each others company great, see more of each other, if you need a break, take it!

Hi Rosie78, filling in those forms can be a nightmare, also waiting for the response too, however top tip from me, photocopy everything you send, make a note of every phone call, date, time, who you spoke to, why you called and what they said. This has been very handy for me in the past. The new Universal Credit system should make this a bit easier. (Thats looking on the positive side anyway!) Wink

pq, I'm afraid I don't know anything about disregarding pension info, contact our Money expert and find out. I am wondering whether you have had any more candlelit evenings in your back garden?

sparklinglime, how is your house and garage clearance going?? Is it moving along? How many children do you have helping?

Had a fab afternoon at J's sports day, although it was baking hot. It was potted sports so they went round in their house teams. J's team won their sports day and his house were overall champions. Not that there was any competition or anything you understand!

As for the tax credits problem, I have to lodge an appeal. Phoned the office this morning to be told that their guidance notes just say to change the income figure to the p60 figure filed by employer. There was nothing he could do and he had no idea that you could take off your pension contributions. He told me to phone the helpline. He even said it was only £600 so was it worth bothering. I phoned the helpline and fortunately got a very helpful young man. He said it was clear on my file that when I made my declaration I was questioned as to the difference in income and gave a valid reason. He confirmed that I am allowed to deduct contributions made to a personal pension including tax relief, so I under estimated by £150. He confirmed that I was definitely in the right, but that because the compliance office had finalised my claim, the only thing I can do is lodge an appeal. He was very helpful and gave me dates and times of my phone calls. He said that it wouldn't make a huge difference to my payments, but said that they wouldn't hesitate to take the money off me. My payment went in today and it was £3 less. I know it's only £12 a month but its my £12!! The only problem is appeals are currently taking 5 months to be resolved. He did say its a very clear case and that I will get back pay, but its just the wait. He couldn't understand why they hadn't taken any notice of the notes. So I've written a strongly worded letter and sent them a copy of my pension statement. Also felt like sending them a copy of their notes with the relevant information underlined, but thought this may have been a bit much!

It sounds as though you managed to speak to the right person at Working Families, Looby. Unfortunately - certainly from my experience - it is a case of getting to talk to the right advisor rather than speaking to anyone, and this doesn't always happen. I hope things are resolved in your favour soon. Look at it this way - all those £3 sums will be saved up and handed to you in one payment. Depending on how long it takes to sort out, maybe enough for a day out for you & J?! Glad his house won sports day, A's school do the same thing. Her sports day is right at the end of term.

sparkling, I agree. Lots of jobs to be done and too sticky to move. I've been working the last couple of days which is tiring in this heat, but at least we have air con Cool

Yes Rosie, child benefit and working families are seperate departments. An additional yes to phoning the council with regard to single person discount (presumably for your council tax payments?). It sounds as though the money expert might be able to offer you assistance too - I've inserted the link here.

I hope everyone has a good Wednesday - one day closer to the weekend - and that no one melts!

Good morning,

No more candlelit evenings in the garden so far, its not been that warm in the evenings where I live, but I'm watching the forecast and can see it should warm up again by the end of the week.

Rosie, I contacted one of those on-line credit checking companies and they sorted it all out for me. They do charge but most of them have an introductory offer or will do the first month free, you just have to remember to cancel the account once they've done what you need them to do.

Looby, I agree its your £3 and you should have it, sounds like you should get your lump sum just in time for christmas!

I think my youngest has swallowed a grumpy pill as she's been in a right mood for the last couple of days. Its bin day today and I asked her to help me take the bins out, she almost had a melt down so I ended up doing it myself. She then wanted me to help her with something, which I did, but I couldn't help saying "see its nice when people help you out isn't it?" her reply was " I've helped you loads this week, I've let you use my ipad 5 times!!"....obviously used up my quota....silly me!

Ha ha pq, your daughter sounds like mine! I was wondering if this is a monthly wobble??

Rosie, rudimentary mary has given you the answers to your questions and pq has shared how she contacted an online credit checking company, I hope all of this helps. It sounds as though you should try and disassociate yourself from him asap. Let us know how things go.

Looby, I agree you definitely should get your extra money, it all adds up and as pq pointed out, hopefully it will be with you by Christmas! Well done J, I bet he was well chuffed!

sparkling, in this weather, nothing should be done in a rush! Smile Do you know where your son is going? Where did you find him last time? Or did he come home?

Rudimentary Mary, nice to hear that you have air conditioning! We have a couple of fans and wide open windows! Although we can't really have the fans on as everyone has too much paperwork on their desks!!

I hope everyone has a nice evening and the weather holds!

What happened to the weather??? It's soooo cold again!!! They promised at least two weeks of really nice! Cry

Sparkling, why is your 17 year old going off? And why does it worry you so much? No3 is out all the time (as you know), he'll be 17 in September. I tend to not worry about that unless he isn't home by 11 - or doesn't turn up for school or something.

Does anyone have a good idea for this: I had to renew the photo bit of my driving license (that runs out every 10 years in case you didn't know - I didn't!) and sent it all off with new photo and cheque a couple of weeks ago. I've heard nothing since. Who do I call? What do I do??

Going out now to meet some friends :-) Yay!

Morning all,

I hope you have plasant morning, Hopeful. I was going to try & go for a swim later, but the lack of food in the house at the moment means a trip to the supermarket takes priority. I'm going for a catch up with a pal of mine from work first though, so it's not all drudgery Smile (You could ring the DVLA to see if they recieved your documents & cheque).

It was cooler here yesterday too, but it's shaping up to be warm again today - the sun is already out. No complaints from me, my Glastonbury tan is beginning to fade, which will never do!

Am I right in thinking your 17 year old has additional needs, sparkling? I can understand your concerns if he has a tendency to wander. It must be hard, knowing that you need to give him the space he needs to be teenager but also perceiving that he doesn't necessarily have the awareness that other young people his age have.

Anna, A definitely has more of a tendency to outbursts of emotions at a certain time in the month - and yes, there is a correlation to where I am in my cycle. An insight into what it might be like when she gets into puberty 'proper' (eek!). She had to start using deodorant a few weeks ago which alarmed her father and made me realise that she won't be a little girl for that much longer. It may be a cliche but they do grow up quick...

Have good day everyone,

M x

Hi Kiera, I've been trying to get a paddling pool but so far no luck. I tried argos and tesco as someone already suggested but they have sold out of all the type my girls would be interested in.

Well I've got to the bottom of H's funny behaviour. She wouldn't talk to me at all this morning so my child minder took her to one side. H said that I don't love her anymore as I go out all the time, that I want to be with my friends and not her. (I don't go out all the time by the way!) but I have been going out more often as I have been dating. We obviously need to have a mummy daughter chat tonight.

Works been crazy today but I'm going home soon, maybe this evening will be warm enough to sit outside in the candle light?

Ah Sparkling, now I understand.

Rang the DVLA and they said they've posted my license today, yay!

Weather looking a bit better now, so there's hope yet.

PQ, isn't it weird what they come out with!

Ooooh do it pancakequeen, eveing in the garden with candlelight, I love it! Perhaps you can invite H to join you too, poor little thing, it is funny how their minds work, but great that she felt able to confide in your child minder!

Hopeful, did you get in touch with the DVLA? 0903 1240 002 (Calls from BT landlines are charged at £1.53 per call and £1.53 per minute or part thereafter. Calls from mobiles and other networks may cost considerably more) I hope the weather has warmed up for you, it certainly has here again! Although it was chilly this morning, it was still very beautiful. I hope you had a good day with friends Smile

kiera! How lovely to see you! We were wondering where you were, how you are? Glad to hear that you got the paddling pool up!  I guess your little girl doesn't remember it from last year. It must be so nice seeing her splashing around Laughing

sparkling, how was your boy today? Did he do a disappearing act, or has he hung around to help with the clearing? Is that why he is wandering off, because you are getting rid of things, does he find that unsettling perhaps?

rudimentary mary, hope you have had a good day and managed to get a swim in Cool
