Hi sparklinglime, have you had a look at this on the Welsh Shelter website regarding Repairs in Social Housing, Disrepair affecting health and Disruption and poor work?

There is a telephone number on those pages too for further assistance, if you feel that your HA are not giving you the response you deserve.

I think one is - thank you.

Plumber has now told me that there is a split in the tank and a new one should be in tomorrow.  Last had hot water on the 18 May.

Just talking to my neighbour and I'm hoping she will phone the HA to ask for a rep to call.  Ridiculous that no one from the HA has been around.

Oh dear.  I'm such a drama queen.  The customer satisfaction team have just left.  I'm shaking so much having sobbed like a baby.  Even they agree it could have been done in a week.

I really havent coped with this.

I didn't.

Absolutely fell apart and phoned h and sobbed like a baby.

I have now been told that if they cannot find a cylinder in stock it will take two weeks to come in.

Do you know, I must have been such a wicked person at some point.

Oh sparkling what an ordeal, it is completely understandable that you fell apart, you are having to hold it all together as a mum for your kids and you have done a sterling job and this has been such hard work, through no fault of your own. Part of your tears is probably sheer frustration in not being able to have any control over the situation.

I hope the sun is shining for you today and you feel that you can cope again in these testing times :)

I feel incredibly low today - which is daft, to be fair.

No plumber called.  I've done a bit of cleaning - again - and watched tele.  Took son in to college too as they're an exhibition he's helping in.

To the beach with cubs and scouts tonight. Need about six pairs of socks and twenty jumpers.

Dilema...

My builder friend and his wife have popped in this morning to see how things are going (I used to do wages for him a few years back).

He's shocked about the state of the place, knows about the issues with kitchen (everyone has had a new kitchen, including those who've had them less than two years), and in few of the mess that's left on the ceiling, the fact that a cupboard and work have blown due to water leaking through ceiling from bathroom (the bath isn't attached to the wall, so any sealant didn't work.  I solved this by taping a shower curtain around the wall, so it keeps water in the bath...).  There are two wall cupboards and two other cupboards.  I bought another that sort of matches when I moved in.  The new kitchens are the length of the kitchen, so there's a good work top area.

He thinks I should be insisting on a kitchen (he know a few other people on the estate.  Others are saying the same to me.  Even the contractor doesn't know why I didn't have a kitchen).

I've said I won't as I don't want more of a mess.

He's said the whole place is a mess, and it woud be worth the extra disruption...  Especially if I'm having the bathroom done too.

My head says no.

What would you do?

I'm just grateful for my home, and I'm rubbish at rattling cages for me.

I know you want an end to the mess Sparkling, but I think I would go for a new kitchen too. Why shouldn't you have it. Try and imagine the whole thing when it's finished. Sorry you were feeling low yesterday, glad you enjoyed the beach though. It's good to get out and blow away the cobwebs eh. Hope today is a better one for you. Take care. xx

Someone called from the ha yesterday.  One of the bosses sent him round - heck, I'm not a scarey person, so think he should have come himself...

Bloke tried telling me that only a couple of the houses were having a kitchen - told him that possibly, if he looked into it only a couple weren't having a kitchen.  Told him to look at mine, and then go next door and tell me how more suitable the number of cupboards she has would be for me too.

He didn't, of course.

He seemed so surprised seeing the ceilings had been pulled down in the kitchen, living room and hallway and surprised they'd not painted.

He had no news on the walk-in-shower.

However, they have put in a small cylinder yesterday.  Took me ages to clear up the mess they left and I ended up not coming back downstairs as, well, I just couldn't get down stairs.

Not connected yet, so hopefully today that will be finished off.

Hips were awful last night, and my back is bad today.

The dog woke me up!  I pretended not to hear her, but as no one else stomped down stairs, I had to! Smile

Then I spotted all the recycling and stuff not moved to by the dishwasher (gosh, the effort) and started pottering.

No one's been yet, but son and I have been sitting in the garden discussing how we're going to decorate the scaffolding at Christmas...

No electrician been to connect the heater, so still no hot water.

Have had a phone call today from the ha and one of the managers is coming to see me on Friday.  Gives me a bit of time to build a file up!

I reckon even son's panic attacks can be connected to all this disruption.

Hmmm.... Seems the original kitchen floor tiles under my manky lino (which we're getting rid of as its breaking up) have asbestos in.

Hi sparklinglime, sorry you are still without hot water, how long is that now?

Yes you could well be right about your sons panic attacks, it has been very unsettling for you all, how is your 15 year old coping?

The asbestos in the old floor tiles is common and is fine if not disturbed as in we taking them up, the contractor should remove them when they do your kitchen xxx

I was going to chuck the floor tiles into the argument for the kitchen... Smile

Four weeks and a day now without water.  New filter for one of the hoover's arrived today, so I've been able to do some more vaccuuming. The plaster seems to be eating the filters so I couldn't wash them.

Oh yes DO chuck absolutely everything into getting a new kitchen, is it possible to find out how many of your neighbours have had a new one and how many have had one as you said already say in the last 5 years? Any info like that will help you xxx

4 weeks with no hot water is so wrong, yes plaster dust is terrible but you do seem to be having more of it than we did, I mean it seems to be lingering.

I dont know how you are doing what you do with the Scouts etc and doing everything at home too, how is your hip tonight xxx

I'm afraid I just leave the house now.  My friends don't mind me being there - at least I hope they don't!  Eldest was there with me this afternoon too.  I go to the Scout hut - it's good I have it to focus on.

Two houses I'm aware of have had kitchens less than two years.  One has successfully argued lack of cupboards when he has three children.  I have the same number of cupboards that he had.

One house had a kitchen three years ago Christmas.

I'm not aware of any other houses that haven't been done.

I'm guessing the contractors are now either boycotting the house or have been told not to return.  The HA said that he was going to arrange for the shower to be done by the care section of them and not the contractors.  He didn't feel it appropriate to allow them to do the job in view of what has gone on.

I'm not arguing.  I just keep my head down now when I walk or drive past them.

Hip not so bad, thank you.  I think going on the bed from 8pm last night helped.  Been doing a bit of pruning in the front as its green bin day tomorrow.  The trees seem to have shot up through the bushes after the rain we've had.  They were overgrowing the hand rails!

Please do fight for a new kitchen use all of the info abotu your neighbours etc and I would also add that its only fair after the way you have been treated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When you say they are either boycotting or have been told not to return, has your house been signed off now, is it finished to your satisfaction?

Prob best that the HA do the shower for you xxx

Glad your hip is a little easier, yes an early night will have done you good, do agree about the trees in fact gardens in general seen to have become very quickly overgrown with the rain and sun this year xxx

The house has been signed off by the contractor, even though I listed what was outstanding.  They also noted how unhappy I was.  Someone was meant to return, but never did/

I have the list.  Hopefully the HA will get their own people to do the other bits.

Neighbour was telling me that word is going about that gas heating will be put in in September. More holes in ceilings!  I'm not sure whether to refuse the gas though.  I rarely use the heaters, but am terrified of the way gas keeps going up in price.

Hi sparkling, I am so concerned that you still have no water, please will you contact your local Shelter agency.

I have just spoken to Shelter Cymru and they said that if you get in touch with them they can help you with your situation. Their number is on the link for Shelter (above), they also have a dropin surgery too.

I know that this is all extra effort, however, I feel that it in the long run it may well be worth it.

Thanks Anna.

I'm in my friend's with my son again!  She's really hurt her back, so we're cheering her up.

I will phone them when I get home.  Daughter finishes at noon, so we'll go home shortly - don't want to leave her there on her own!  We can all hit some more dusting then.

I'm run out of energy now, to be honest.  They all have my mobile number, and my neighbour has the key to let them in if need be.
