December 2012 Chat

I think the sponging technique works really well...never tried the legs in warm towels before though, might give that a go sometime.

Similar thing happened to me...my daughter said she felt sick...I said she was probably hungry and made her eat her breakfast...she promptly threw up all over the table...and like your son hopeful, she turned to me and said 'I told you so!!'

Survived another day of work, one more to go......

Eeeew!!

I thought I was finishing today, but I need to go in tomorrow as the new girl is out and about!!  Ah well...

Everyone had a good meal last night (omelette, chips and peas for me !!).  Picked up 'the boss' and took him home, and had a good chat.

This week has been ok, other than being geared to finishing today!!  Not that I'm sulking or anything Laughing

Bet you're looking forward to tomorrow Pq.

Remember C and I going off to visit Aunt, when he was 5. Set off in a cab, before catching the coach. Said he felt sick in the cab, tried to keep him occupied, thinking he was tired, then up it came. Whoops, sorry cab driver!!

Hello everyone!

It's nice to be back amongst you all again Smile I'm here to keep Louise company over the festive period.

We've been 'lurgy struck' here too - though A has just had a brief touch of the sickness bug and I've been afflicted by a horrible viral thing accompanied by a hacking cough for what feels like weeks now. Glad to report I'm finally beginning to feel better - I hope everyone else who has been suffering with one 'lurg' or another is too.

A has had a couple of days off school after throwing up on Tuesday night, but has been bright as a button today & is definitely going back in for the last day of school tomorrow. She was perked up no end by the early arrival of her birthday present yesterday. She now has her very own tarantula, who she has named 'Spink'. No, I'm not kidding!

I'm back to being 'luscious' tomorrow. I had to get a shift covered today so I could stay at home with herself - at least it means I've finally got the Christmas tree up! I'm almost there in terms of prep, but I am not feeling at all Christmassy. What about everyone else?

Hey luscious mary, hehe. Great to 'see' you. Sorry to hear you and daughter have been struck with these different bugs doing the rounds. Read the bit about her birthday present twice, a tarantula?? Love the name though. Am not feeling Christmassy either, but that's purely because I've not been able to get out, so not even food shopping been done right now. What are you doing for Christmas? Will it just be you and your daughter?

Hi Mary.  I'm sorry you've been poorly, and glad you're both feeling better.

My sixteen year old wanted a tarantula for years, and I said for his 16th birthday he could have one.  By then he had decided he didn't!!

I have decided that it's September here, and so have plenty of time of prepare for Christmas.  Food shopping?  Not done any of that here as I'd run out of money!!  Tut.

Got paid today, so there may be hope.

I have an online slot booked for Sunday though, so we will at least have cornflakes and milk.  I might even treat myself to some Roses lime cordial Smile

Good morning all. Very pleased that you haven't developed any of the other symptoms Pq. You would have been feeling rotten for Christmas.

Sparkling, at least you have an order coming, I didn't do anything!!

You're all sorted too Louise, that's very good. Aren't you supposed to remind me in March/April time?Tongue Out

No, C isn't at school. I've even suggested that we go down there for the Christmas Carols, sung by the staff, and then he can give the teachers his presents. He really cannot be bothered, and there was me thinking he'd jump at the chance. Teacher I work with couldn't come round yesterday, she did offer to pick the stuff up this morning, but because I thought we'd be going, I declined her kind offer (am such a fool) I shall sort something out later I'm sure.

Evening all.

My online shopping just been delivered an hour late. The driver had a flat, but he did phone me to advise. Only had 3 substitutions and one of them was a much more expensive cheeseboard than the one I wanted, but because of price match I paid the same. Sad I know, but I love it when that happens!

Work all finished for me. Got a couple bottles of wine, a selection box and £100 as a bonus. Thank you very much. J laid claim to the selection box. Off into town tomorrow to get bits for J's stocking and for a general 'poddle' around. Sunday is the day of cleaning and then off out for tea and cinema with friend.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

That sounds lovely Looby.  Ace with the bonus too :-)

I was going to try and finish off a VAT return, but have given up two thirds of the way through.  I'm just too tired.

I'm taking MiL to the station tomorrow as she's off to stay with her oldest daughter over Christmas.  She was quite upset on the phone earlier, and is regretting going.  We did decide that she'd be fine once she was on the way.

I've been topping up the home delivery thing for Sunday.  I want to try and get to Iceland tomorrow to get the turkey and some of the veg. I ended up working all day, and left to a sarcastic comment.  Glad there's a break.  Even though I will probably go in at some point, at least it will be to a peaceful office.

Yes, good thinking sparkling. How is your cough? Sounds like you have a plan for the food, I have a delivery on Sunday and if there is anything missing or with a ridiculous sub then I can pop to Asda at silly o'clock on Christmas Eve morning as they open at 00.01 hours, I will go about 6 Smile just in time to pick up youngest returning from his Home Delivery Department night out. He is exhausted at the moment. I woke up about ten minutes before his 5am alarm today and could hear him snoring, I felt so sorry for him knowing that he was about to be disturbed. He has to be up at 4 tomorrow!!!! then is off, hence night out.

Looby that was fab getting a bonus! Well deserved. Knew you wouldn't get much of a look-in with the selection box though, he he.

Kiera you are going to have a bumper christmas, don't spend too much money though, the main thing is to be together.

Hazeleyes, PQ how are you?

Today I am having a little expedition to the shed to find out what I have got stashed away for Christmas. I believe there is a pack of stuffing, a Christmas pud and some wine and beer Laughing

Well work is done for 2012, that feels so good Laughing Had quite a good last day too so not too stressed. Went for my run this morning, with about 100 other die hards, in the rain...I do question why I do it sometimes?? Made pancakes for breakfast and been to sainsbury's, we've got a little one near us and its always quiet at christmas, I think people think it won't have what they need, so in and out of there in half an hour. Youngest has a party later so going to spend some 'quality' time with A. Then its feet up with a glass of wine ready for the strictly final Laughing

Louise can I come to your shed, it sounds like a great place?!

Looby my girls love it when their teeth are wobbly, I love it too as they let me pull them out Smile

Sparkling, it will still be christmas without the stuffing...will one of your children pick a pack up for you?

A beautiful scarf (secret santa) Had ex Friday friend and son back after school, which was lovely.

Hi all,

Have been running around dressed as a fairy all day today, so it's nice to sit down in some relatively normal clothes!

hazeleyes,it will be me, A, a close friend of ours and & my mum for Christmas dinner. A is at her dad's o/n on her birthday (Christmas Eve), so the plan is to go out for a few drinks 'early doors' then get up at a reasonable hour to prep/start cooking and open prezzies after lunch. A lot of me wishes it was just me & A - this virus has left me pooped (I'm still coughing like I smoke 300 hundred a day) and it's heaving at work at present, what with everyone rushing in for last minute prezzies big and small. I'd be happy with a tin of Quality Street and a bottle of red in front of the TV, in all truthfulness.

I've just done the last food shop, so if anyone needs stuffing, give me a shout Wink

I'm glad you got to the school hazeleyes.  That sounds like a lovely afternoon.  I do hope you an C have a chance to relax over the holidays and get well.

Took MiL through floods to the station this morning.  I'd filled the car with diesel so that if the trains had stopped I could get her down to her daughter's.  Anyhow, the trains were fine this end and things went crazy further south.  She's arrived safely though.  She's finding it very hard going, but I'm sure by tomorrow, with her great-grandson there too, she'll be starting to feel better.

Sorry you're still feeling not so good Mary. Coughing does take it out of you though.

This lot have opened a tub of Celebrations.  I've opened a can of cider too, but can't remember where I've left it!!!!

Sixteen year old has put some fairy lights along the kitchen wall.  There were holes where old trunking was pulled off from when they rewired, and I bought cup hooks to put in them.  Its worked well.  I'll leave the fairy lights there as its nice to have a glow in here.

Ran around Wilkos this morning after Iceland, which we did after dropping off MiL, so have something to give my neighbours.  I really need to grovel to one as being at work more or less full time all year, I've only called in a couple of times to see her.

Glad you've finished work for the year pq.  I felt that when I finished the VAT.

Merlin on here.  Daughter watching upstairs, youngest in their room and me in the kitchen!!  I should cut the plugs off these things.

Off to find the elusive can...

Mary - the children love stuffing...  Must go and add that now!

I'd be quite happy with cornflakes!

I agree, sparkling. I am doing my best to be lenient with myself, but I'm a hard task master...I hope everyone who has been suffering with any of the many bugs is beginning to turn the corner. I had flu over christmas a couple of years ago & it is awful being ill (and feeling wretched) when everyone around you is enjoying themselves. It's even worse when they 'try to jolly you out of it'!

By the way, I don't understand how cider goes awol either - but then A isn't a teenager yet...

I hope you both got a good night's sleep and have managed to have decadent lie-ins today.

I'm being a total misery, and I know it. Just cannot shake it off, and not feeling any Christmas Spirit at all. C's pressies are done, so it isn't that. Have been out and got food (of sorts) so it isn't that. Had a full on row with C earlier, with me telling him to get out. Despite my best efforts all year of ignoring etc, I couldn't ignore it today. I actually dislike him right now, and it's not nice feeling like this! To be honest, I'm loathing everyone right at the minute (those I know personally of course, not One Space members) Shall slink away, and moan quietly in the corner somewhere!

Went to see the neighbour one side who was seething as her daughter-in-law was late picking her up.

Went to see neighbour other side and was trying to help her find a shirt she'd bought for her eldest son's birthday on Boxing Day.  She was fed up too.

I'm fed up as trying to be festive here but sixteen year old stomping around as he's losing his PS3 game, thirteen year old stomping about because he can, and daughter sitting in her bedroom on her computer eating super noodles.

Have called them in the kitchen asking if they actually want to bother with Christmas as I don't care either way.  Yes they do, it seems, so sixteen year old is back on the PS3, youngest is delivering the cards to our part of the estate and daughter is still eating supernoodles.

Merry Christmas Cool

Oooh...seems Sunday hasn't been so much a day of rest as a day of angst for some Frown

hazeleyes, I know what you mean. A & I go through phases where I feel really challenged by her and avidly dislike many of her behaviours (usually after she's spent time with her dad, to be brutally honest) - it makes you feel awful to admit you're not too fond of your own offspring, doesn't it? But you're not alone. I hope you shake off the 'bah humbugs' and that C does or says something to redeem himself, in that way children always can (but often don't Laughing)

Sounds like you've had a busy one, sparkling. So peace has been restored for the time being then? Long may it last. Oh, and if your youngest wants something else to do when he's finished playing post man he can pop round and clean my bathroom floor if he likes - it'll save me a job later on!

I've taken my fairy wings off now. Time to chill a little and wait for A to come back from her dad's (!) Once she's in bed, I then have to locate all her birthday presents from their various hidey holes around the flat; I managed to miss a pile last year, which I subsequently found on Christmas morning. Oops Embarassed. Ah well, she didn't seem to mind. A present is a present, after all!

I'm sure she'll have a marvelous birthday.  I have to say I used to forget where I'd put presents as I'd shop all year round for this lot.

Sixteen year old and I have assembled a garden archway this afternoon, and it is now over the path leading to our house with fairy lights over it.  Almost a disastor when the new set of lights had 9 bulbs in a row that failed to work (and didn't work when replaced), but I knew there was a second set, even though sixteen year old was stomping saying there wasn't.

Guess who was right...

Pretty lights now around the arch.

Tesco has been, and I have an evergrowing list of stuff I've forgotten!!  Well, only three things on it.  I was on the phone with my friend and as she was mentioning things I was jotting them down!!

Youngest told me, very helpfully, that I need to clear the kitchen table before we can have Christmas dinner.  Its covered in gifts, cards, wrapping paper etc.  Suggested he wrapped and wrote.  Strangely enough, it seems there's no urgency now.

They're all happy and laughing.

Mary, a very happy birthday to your daughter, too much excitement in your house with the two days together?

How is everyone today? Hazeleyes I hope you are feeling a bit happier today. After a virus, it is quite normal to feel down, not a very good time of year for it though!

PQ, kiera, Hopeful, Looby everything ready at your houses?

My boys have been working silly hours. Eldest was at his shop till 4am today getting sale stuff ready, he is  doing 2-6 today then coming here. Youngest has done 39 hours work in the last THREE DAYS. The department manager passed out twice with stress on Saturday and was sent home. Youngest went on staff night out last night, despite exhaustion.

I woke up at 6 this morning with an overwhelming desire for a cup of tea, staggered out of bed and found youngest asleep downstairs with his head on the dining table. I put him to bed and will boot him out again about 2 so that he doesn't get out of sync. He had managed to miss putting his face in his takeaway half-eaten chicken burger and ketchup-drowned chips by a couple of centimetres, so let's be thankful for small mercies Cool

Ew, 5.15a.m. pq? That really is 'stupid o'clock'. Hope all three of you enjoyed the film.

Your boys have more stamina than me, Louise. Ah, to be young (& foolish Laughing). A had a pretty good morning here, thanks all. We only fell out once when she deliberately did the opposite of what she'd been asked to do (for the second time) and then spoke to me in a way which I did not appreciate in response to my talking sternly to her. She lost all her new toys for the duration of my shower. We had a hug and a chat, and things were fine after that (lots of visitors, which helped). But yes, it does all get a bit much for her. If she'd been on time instead of hanging on for another week, it wouldn't be so hard on her...

I'm going to disappear back into the kitchen shortly to do some prep for tomorrow, before going out for a few drinks. May as well, seeing A is at her dad's for the night!

Whilst we were in the cinema she text to ask if we would mind not going, so I opened the champagne anyway and have had a couple of glasses.

Happy christmas everyone.

I really enjoyed my Special K Cool  - that was my Christmas present off my lot.

Merry Christmas, or at the very least a peaceful one.

After 16 hours of being a human whirlwind, J has finally given in and gone to sleep! I am shattered!! We have had a great day though, our first Christmas on our own. Hope everyone else has had a great day. Will be off to bed soon, just need to try and find the living room floor!
