I'm going to have to get the credit card out...  Can't ask my sister.  I haven't used for aaaages.  I can't remember the pin though, so it will have to do an online shop Smile

Awww Louise, I know how you feel with regarding the cough. It's awful isn't it? I also thought the cold weather would have zapped all these gersms. So, the christmas card from ex? I bet that was a shock for you!!

Sparkling, It's really cold for September!! Ridiculous the way our weather is going!

Pq, how was the show the other night? Hope the kitten has dried out hehe

Well, I'm feeling better (ish) Don't know why, or if it's connected in anyway, but each morning I wake with a pounding headache. I wouldn't mind if it was self inflicted, but it honestly isn't. Bought C some snow boots and a warm hat yesterday. He doesn't normally like wearing a hat, but think he's feeling the cold in the mornings a lot. We had a fire drill this morning, and the poor kids were standing in the playground with no coats on. Another ridiculous thing in this weather if you ask me.

aww pancake queen, a lot going on for you. Time to do something kind for yourself, to ground you. I hope you have a gentle evening.

hazeleyes, great to hear that you are feeling a bit better, the headaches are a worry though. I have a friend and her daughter who both get headaches in the winter and she noticed that it was when she turned on the central heating, apparently the heat dehydrates us. Of course this is not a medical theory, but she now leaves the heating off until she is up (much to her daughters annoyance) and tries to turn it on as little as possible.

sparklinglime - go steady with that credit card. Remember to decide on a budget before online shopping!

Hi Anna, I also think some ailments are down to central heating. When I was growing up, my Dad refused central heating, so we had gas fires. He said the heating dried the air up, and it was bad for us. Hmmm, to think he was right, hehe.

Hope everyone is okay. Louise, get an early night, and really hope your cough is easing.

Careful with the credit card Sparkling.

Pq, awwww, doesn't sound like a good day for you. Can you repair or hide the hole in the floor?

Good morning everyone

Hope people are starting to feel better? Kiera, how are you? Hazeleyes is your head any better and how was your night? I was up for rather a long time in the middle of it due to not being able to stop coughing and I resorted to my old favourite LemSip...mind you I have to put a load of extra lemon juice in as it is too sweet for me (I know everyone else puts sugar in theirs)

PQ that sounds like a horrid day, how did the hole in the floor happen? Can it be repaired?

Morning sparkling, how is the Christmas robin? Wink

Fingers crossed that Hopeful is ok after her chemo

Good idea about a hat for C, hazeleyes. My youngest is working outside all of the time, it is his payday today and I have told him to buy some thermals...have been nagging for ages about this and have now said that if he comes back without any he will be bundled straight in to the car and taken back to get some.

Interesting about the central heating. I do not have mine on in my bedroom as it makes my head feel stuffy. Mind you, I am still using my summer quilt Cool

Morning,

The hole in the floor happened yesterday. The grill pan was on the draining board and it got knocked off, landing on the floor on its corner so it punched a hole about an inch long. Its was my fault and just one of many things that has happened to me this week. I am on a big downer at the moment Cry

Loads of hugs pq.  I'm sorry too that ex is making things difficult.  I know how things could be here.

I cannot tell you how careful I'll be with the credit card.  It will be used for essentials only.  It might not come to it though.  The main this is filling the car with fuel for the wedding will almost clear out my account, but then I will have to put the fuel in to get there...

The Scout party was really good.  Had a productive meeting after with the remaining leaders about how things are going to move forward in the new year. All of us are not at all with the disctrict commissioner who is getting others to do dirty work and now to afraid to talk to me Laughing

Another awful day at work yesterday.  New girl is finding the way the "older" colleague works a bit challenging.  I don't have a problem, but I was able to sort of get the three of us laughing.  The afternoon was a bit better, but I didn't feel able to leave the two on their own!!  However, today I have said I'm not going in (boss made sarcastic comment about me 'only' working three days a week, so this week I have).

My brother phoned yesterday, and I have told him I'm feeling anxious about the journey.  I used to travel all over the place, only a few years back, doing almost 40000 miles a year.  Now I do about 6000 (mainly down to being stuck at work hahahaha!  Cost of fuel too).  He understood.  My SiL has given me a route that is rural once off the motorway (I'm not worried about the motorways, its a roundabout with 150  lanes that get me).

I have an issue with 16 year old though, as his friends are off out to the cinema tomorrow and he's coming with me.  Daughter is not coming with me as her friend is off to Chester for the day and she's going with her, and the 'old' school friends getting together in the evening.  Why all this isn't happening next week when school closes, I don't quite understand.

Oldest is working 12 - 5.  Sooooo, do I say 16 year old can stay so he can go out with friends?  Oldest would be on stand by and has promised me he'll come home straight after work.  Now he has a car, he can go and collect if necessary.  Or have a stroppy son who would probably be ok once we were on the road, and would be quite happy seeing my brother and sister.

First time the three of us would have been under the same roof since my Mum's funeral 16 years ago... (Brother is 13 years older and sister is 11 years older than me).  I have their Christmas presents, and its my sister's birthday on Monday.  I think that will be a Moonpig card though.

Quite excited about having a Friday off, hence the rabbitting on...

I do hope your day gets better  pq, and hope Friday goes at least ok for everyone.

Hi everyone

pq, its horrible when you are on a downer, everything seems to fall apart I find. Take it easy on yourself, once you start to feel better everything will fall into place again. As for the floor at least it is personalised eh?

Hi hazeleyes, I had a worrying thought about carbon monoxide this morning, are you gas or electric in your home? How was your head this morning?

sparklinglime, dilemma solved yet? Do you mind either way if your son goes with you? I hope you have a super time with your siblings and the day is lovely. Oh and HAPPY DAY OFF!

Hi kiera, my little girl used to completely freak out at anyone dressed up, they would come towards her with their arms open for a hug and she would run a mile! Glad she liked her present though! So out tonight, are you at the age where you are happy to go out with coat and umbrella, or will you brave it without either? Be good!! Wink

Louise i can't believe you still have summer quilt.......actually....yes I can! Wink

Have a happy weekend everyone, pq look after yourself. This is your life and you control it. Kiss

I have told 16 year old he is coming.  Have made daughter feel bad that she isn't coming (not quite intentionally).  They're saying how this is the first time their friends have been out for aaaaagggeeeeeesss...  Pointed out it would be the first time for them that they would have their mother, aunty and uncle in one place ever (for them) and the first time my siblings and I would have been together for 16 years.

Brother is now saying that 16 year old can help with photography, so son is now charging his camera.  Still sukling, stomping and frowning.  He really must have the most awful headache!!

I have actually written most of the Christmas cards - well the ones that need posting.  They actually have second class stamps on them!!  Still some to do, but a good start for me.

Need to wrap some presents up to take with me tomorrow to save posting them.

I have even done a moonpig thing for my sister's birthday, typed out two quotes and three invoices for my builder friend, who has checked out the attic for boarding out for 16 year old to play trains.  Sixteen year old has been told that he will need to wear a mask up there though!!  I'm thinking rolls of felt to keep fibres down and maybe something extractor wise.

PQ, you are allowed wallowing days, and I can understand why you felt upset.  A bit like me with the spagghetti hoops and the new rug...  Glad the fug is lifting and I do hope today has been a better day.

I'm still feeling anxious about the drive tomorrow, although my brother has emailed me a route with not too many lanes at roundabouts.

Hazeleyes, how are you feeling?

Good morning

Hope the wedding goes well, sparkling. I kinow how you feel with a long drive, I always feel anxious about a drive. The two things that help me are a. knowing there are some really incompetent drivers out there, much worse than me and b. if I go wrong I can always turn round again. The decision to take 16 year old sounds a good one, hope you get the best from the occasion that you can Smile

How was your night out, kiera?

Hi PQ hope you are feeling a bit brighter this morning. You can make a decision about the floor when you're ready to...in the meantime a bit of gaffer tape over it will prevent anymore splits. it's good to take charge of things, and you ARE in charge even if the recent experiences with A, not to mention the girls' dad, have led you to question that. What are you doing over the weekend?

Hazleyes, how is the cough and the head? I am still coughing at night, am sick of it and I bet the neighbours are too. Hope you are beginning to feel a bit brighter.

It's much milder today hurrah, so a good day for getting things done, methinks Wink

Hi all. Had rotten few days, so ruddy down here. So much so, I stayed in bed all day yesterday! Won't go into everything though. C is poorly again. He had Friday off school with sore throat, high temperature etc. I actually thought he'd be better by now. He's been on Nurofen since Friday, but he's still feeling rotten. Doctors tomorrow I'm guessing. I worked half day Friday, and elderly neighbours had him. I shall text them in a min to see if I can do the same thing with him tomorrow. Trouble at school Thursday, and both teacher and TA have lied to me, and both been caught out. I'm furious, and have been since Friday. Anyhow, hey ho, life is a b**** sometimes.

Sparkling, I hope you all had a fantastic time at the wedding. Let us know how things went.

Louise, still coughing a bit. How are you feeling now? Hopefully a bit brighter, and you're leaving the neighbours sleep at night hehe.

Pq, sorry you've also had some down days. Hope you're okay.

Anna, I have gas, and again, like you, I too have thought this over. My boiler was checked only a little while ago, so am assuming it's okay. How's things your end?

Still writing out cards. Only started today mind you. So far behind this year. Thought I'd bought enough, but looking at them, I so obviously haven't. Oh God, it never ends. Neighbours funeral tomorrow. I thought long and hard about going, and I honestly don't think I could handle it, plus now of course, I've had a lot of time off work recently.

Hope you're all having a good Sunday. x

Yes it is hard to decide whether to go to funerals isn't it, I guess all I can say is do what feels right to YOU.

Sorry to hear you are still feeling rotten, H, it is a nasty bug. Do you think that C has got the same thing? I am guessing that the lies you were told as school were to do with C and the boy? I do trust the coming week will be better for you and you get all your Christmas stuff done.

Sparkling did you enjoy the wedding and how was it to be together with everyone again?

PQ hope the weekend has been good for you. Did you enjoy your night out, kiera?

I still have my cough and have missed the carol service tonight...was looking forward to it but I can't sing without coughing and it is outside...not good for me, even with my thermal vest on Wink Eldest is here, arrived last night. We have had quite a lazy day today and he is desperate to watch Sports Personality of the Year later. He is here tomorrow too, on my day off, I have promised to take him out for breakfast. Church party on Tuesday night, dinner at friend's house on Thurs with a group of girls and out with other friends on Friday, wow that is busy for me!

Take care, everyone

Sorry you're still not well either Louise. Hopefully seeing your son will perk you up a bit. Is he back home for Christmas? Yep, your week sounds busy, busy, busy. Don't overdo it!!

I don't know what C has, a bad throat again for sure. Up at 3.30 with him this morning, and yesterday it was 5.30. Could he be run down in himself, and that's why he's getting this all of the time? All I know for sure, he's having nurofen nearly everyday, and it's not good for him. If it's not for a headache, it's for a bad throat. I feel so down over everything, him, school, xmas included. Want to climb into bed, with duvet over my head, watching the world pass me by. Asked neighbour to have C tomorrow morning, as she had said earlier she wouldn't be going to the funeral, as she is feeling unsteady on her feet, and doesn't feel too good. Anyhow, now she says she is going!!! Another friend is working with elderly people, doing hair, so she can't risk them catching anything. One more friend to try. Fingers crossed.

Hello everyone.

Really sorry to hear about you and C hazeleyes, you really are in the wars (as my mum would say). I know it sounds old fasioned but I think you and C need a tonic, some vitamins etc, to give you a boost. Hopefully some time off over christmas will give you both chance to recharge your batteries.

Louise, you are still suffering too, these bugs are troublesome. Sorry you missed your carol service.

Sparkling, I really hope you had a great time at the wedding and enjoyed being amongst your family. These times are really special.

I am feeling much better in myself. Did the parkrun yesterday and knocked another 30 secs off my pb so really pleased about that Smile. Went to my friends for a christmas party last night. In her village the choir go round to people's houses to sing and raise money for Crisis. They sang beautifully, really started the christmas season for the girls and I. We have redecorated the tree again, minus the tinsel! The kitten seems less interested now so hopefully that will be it! Baby sat for my neighbour's 6 month old daughter this afternoon, forgot how much hard work they are at that age! The girls are in the bath and I am cooking roast gammon, and tomorrow a new week begins, hopefully a better one for me.

I'm sorry things aren't good hazeleyes.  There's a child version of the that Metatone stuff.  Perhaps Santa needs to organise some for you and C?

The wedding was really good, although my sister arrived three hours late.  My brother and I were getting anxious by then, as you can never be certain on how she'll behave when she does arrive.

All was good though.

So shocked to see how old and stiff my brother looked.  I only saw him in the summer, so not that long.  They're having their first Christmas on their own this year, and I feel a quiet time is what they need...  I know they put a lot of work into decorating the village hall.  Sadly, the young farmers who were meant to help pack things up at the end of the evening disappeared.  Luckily my three were able to help as the tables were like the ones in our scout hall!!  Be prepared and all that.

We were home by lunchtime yesterday.  My brother and sister planned on meeting up again in the village, but they were both staying in the village - I was about half an hour away.  It didn't make sense to travel back and daughter had a load of work to do.

I parked myself in the living room and dozed!

I'm sorry you missed the carol service Louise.

Hazeleyes, I hope you're not waiting too long at the surgery.

Well done on the time for your run pq.  Smile

I'm seeing my aunty this morning.

I'm so pleased everything went well Sparkling, even though the clearing up had to be done! It must have been lovely to have the three of you together again.

C got an appointment at 9.00, but luckily (again) Dr saw us in waiting room and called C in at 8.35 (he's brilliant) Doesn't want to give antibiotics yet, wait until Wednesday to see how C is. If like he is today, then start him on them. No school, because of temperature too. Questioned him on high temperatures etc, as C had one of 38.8 on Friday, which I know is very high, but friend insisted it was not!! Dr was shocked that someone could think this. So, for everyone here, 37.5 is a tad high, anything over is high!! Have called school, didn't sound happy, but nothing I can do, unless they expect me to leave C on his own. No Chance!

Just seen neighbours hearse pull up. Brings back memories of course. God Bless her.

Hope everyone is okay. Louise, make sure you wrap warm!

Hello everyone

So many bugs and germs! How is everyone today? Anna, you as well, not good just before Christmas. My cough is a lot better and I am ***** if I am going to let it spoil any more of my parties!!!!

PQ the run was good Smile I was glad to read on the other thread that the girls' dad has finally agreed about the Christmas Day arrangements. When does school finish? The choir sounded lovely!

Sparkling glad the wedding trip went well. Did you get to see your aunty?

Hazeleyes did you and C have a better night? it does feel as if he is run-down as he is now past the age when they are poorly every five minutes. Ask the GP about this when you go back?

Hopeful, kiera, how are you?

I have had a lovely time with son, have just waved him off this morning and he will be back on Christmas Eve. Took him out to breakfast yesterday, he had full english and then had the cheek to say it was a "bit titchy" (sausage, egg, bacon, tomato, beans and toast!!) I had egg on toast. Am awaiting my opportunity for a "chat" with youngest. He is living his life as if he is a very junior Peter Stringfellow. He keeps saying "I will only be 18 once" and I want to reply "Yes, and you will never get to 19 at this rate" So I think a little Mum-Chat is in order.......Cool

Anna, hope you're feeling better today.

C is still the same. Sparkling, have bought the Metatone £5.10, blimey. Here's hoping it works, or at least does something. Good thing is, I can also take it too. Have written cards out, and managed to post them too, whoopeee. Post box is just around the corner, so chatted to C on his mobile the whole time!! Everything is a ruddy struggle at the minute, still haven't been out for his stuff for Christmas, not much food in, but on the whole, considering am out on a limb here, with doing and taking care of C, don't think I'm doing too bad. Tell you what though, I won't be so obliging to others in the New Year. They all suck.....

I didn't see my Aunty yesterday.  The brakes on the car went peculiar on Sunday when we were nearly home - as in I braked and the pedal didn't budge!!  Awful grinding noise as I left to meet her, so I went to the garage instead.  My daughter ran down from college to meet Aunty, and she had a hot chocolate instead of me!  I had a nice chat on the phone after though.  Two technicians couldn't find anything wrong with the car though - happier its been checked, and we reckon it might have been a stone or build up of salt on the journey.

I'm certain the Metatone will work.  If my Mum said it was good, then it is Laughing

Don't stress about Christmas.  It will be magical with the tinsel and fairylights.

Only the younger two will get anything besides the stocking here.  Daughter is, after all, having a fortune spent on her with driving lessons, and lets not even go down the road with the eldest Cool

The middle two went to youth club for the first time for ages this evening, as its the last of the year.  The leader came out as soon as she saw my car, which was lovely.  Had a good chat with her.

We went to Asda after, and knowing that all is stopping, even if for a short time, on Friday I certainly felt a teensy weensy bit like possibly it is coming up to Christmas...

I do hope everyone is starting to feel better.  I'm coughing, but heck, I'll just sing with a croaky voice whilst spluttering - it won't sound any worse.

Yes a break will be lovely for you, sparkling. Scary about the car, good to get it checked. I don't spend much on my boys, they have a few little things to open but the main thing for us is all to be together and enjoy a good laugh, silly games, good food and dreadful telly. They will go to see their dad on Christmas Day but not sure whether before or after lunch, will leave that to eldest to organise. The good news is that he was being dragged into work on Boxing Day but not any more so is here from Christmas Eve till 27th. HOWEVER.....I went into his room yesterday to air it out and make sure he had not left anything and there was a piece of old chewing gum ON THE WALL. Unbelieveable, he is 23! He got a very cross text. All he had to do was pop to the bathroom, get a piece of loo roll to wrap it in and put it in the bin.

Hazeleyes, sounds as if you are starting to feel a bit better, do hope so. Are you back at the GP with C today?Just some nice food to get in and C's presents and everyone else can whistle!

Kiera that will be good for your daughter to go to nursery. Will the hours be spread over 3 days or 4?

Glad you are feeling better, Anna.

Hi all. It's good that you had the car checked Sparkling, and thankfully it was nothing. Did your daughter enjoy your missed coffee?Tongue Out

Had to laugh at the chewing gum Louise, reminded me of my school days. We used to stick the gum underneath the desksSurprised I wasn't your son's age though, hehe

Pq, I really hope your cold doesn't turn into this horrid virus. Hopefully, you'll be okay for Christmas.

How are you feeling today Anna? Wrap up warm when you're out, although even that doesn't really help does it. The cold gets right into the bones.

C is now on the antibiotics, so they should kick in by Friday. He got the capsules this time, which the chemist found odd for a 10 year old, but once I'd convinced C they were okay, then he took one. Teacher I work with rang me yesterday to say my 1-1 lad had bought some flowers in for me, which is lovely. She has offered to drop round here, to take bits and pieces to school. My kid's cards, with a little father christmas chocolate, teacher's present from C, plus his TA of course (these were bought weeks ago) Also my cards to the staff, so that is really good of her. Have text her to see if the offer is still on. Hoping C will at least get to school tomorrow, if not Friday.

Lassie is on TV, so I'll be weeping later.

Oh no, not Lassie Wink I taped Calendar Girls the other evening so will be watching that again when I get an empty house. Sounds like C will be on the mend now, and hope you are too, hazeleyes.

PQ let us hope that you will throw the germs off and it doesn't come to much. Fingers crossed.

My friend was telling me last night that Ofsted has descended on her daughter's primary school. They want to see lessons being taught so the school has had to cancel all the children's parties and their carol service. WHAT???? if my child was there, I would be round to give Ofsted a piece of my mind!!

Have had chat with youngest. It boils down to him not drinking so much.I have got him to agree to save £150 a month with me as well as his board so that at least eats into the money available. He has also agreed not to stay out late on Xmas Eve. One of his friends is back from Uni now so they are planning an outing later but I have got him on hoovering duty first, heh heh

Hi all.

Finally found some time to catch up with everyone and it seems you've all been poorly sick. So have we though. Had to have three days off with J last week as he was poorly. He is never poorly. When he told me he didn't feel well I thought he was pulling a fast one and ironed his uniform and made the pack ups. It was only when took his temp and it was 39.6 that I agreed he might be a bit poorly. I then felt like the worst mother in the world for not believing him! On the third day of high temp I took him to the doctor, who looked at me and said well colds do make them a bit under the weather you know. Really?! I explained I wasn't concerned about the cold, it was the high temp and amount of medicine I'd been giving him. Also it says to consult doctor after 3 days. I was told not to worry, I could give him paracetamol and ibuprofen for a lot longer than three days! Grrrr. The virus has wiped out J's class at school. Out of the 30 of them, they have only had between ten and twelve pupils in for the last two week. They've been on sort of a rotating cycle! He then passed the lurgy onto me. I lost my voice on Monday which J and everyone at work found very funny.  J kept asking me to shout at him, because I could only squeak. He was falling on the floor in fits of giggles.

it was the school church service and nativity today. J was Joseph. Because of all the illness they weren't able to do the nativity play, but they sang all their songs, in between coughing and yawning! Quite a few of the foundation stage parents were crying, me included. The kids weren't at all phased by standing up in front of 300 people in church. I did have to mime the songs though. Singing makes me cough!

Off to get sorted for tomorrow. It's non uniform for J (yay no shirts and ties) and his Christmas party, so have got to send him in with party food. I'm ready for breaking up on Friday!!

HAVE A WONDERFUL BREAK, ANNA!  we will all miss you but wish you a fab time and hope you recover to enjoy Christmas 100%! You have helped and supported so many people this past year and your encouragement and guidance is MUCH appreciated Kiss

Mary will be with us from this evening so it will be good to catch up with her and she will be here with me over Christmas.

How is everyone today? Looby sorry to hear you have both been poorly but it sounds as if J still enjoyed the festive things. You were right to go to the doctor, that temp was very high. PQ you are a LemSip girl. Hope it has helped...as you say you just have the two days to do then PHEW.

Sparkling how are things at work? Was it the meal last night?

Hazleyes how are you both?

Hopeful saw on the other thread you are working on a statement, hope that is going ok.

Kiera that is great that your daughter enjoyed nursery. It is lovely that you are looking forward to Christmas. Be VERY proud of yourself how you have changed your life in 2012...just think how things have changed and transformed since last Christmas!

I am fighting fit again, felt suddenly better yesterday, hurrah! Had "chat" with youngest and that went quite well. His brother had wanted to have a go at him and I had vetoed that and said I would handle it.

Going to see a friend this afternoon then this evening I have girly Come Dine With Me at friend's house Laughing

Hi everyone, I'm still on the lemsip but feel a bit brighter at the moment, only today and tomorrow to go.......

Glad you got to talk to your son louise, lets hope he takes it on board and tones things down a bit.

A has managed to lose a second coat, this one I bought her on friday, so she's not in my good books at the moment....I've told her she has 2 days of school left to find it otherwise she can buy a new one with her own money....hope that helps to focus her mind!!

Good morning all. Looby, sorry to hear you and son have been poorly. You did right by taking him to the Doctors. Glad you've found your voice again. The nativity sounded lovely, even with the amount of children missing, they still pulled it off.

Pq, Friday is nearly here. You've probably still got things to do, but I hope in between work, normal house stuff etc, you manage to get some rest before Tuesday.

Kiera, that's great that you're looking forward to Christmas. Like Louise says, you've come along since last year, so imagine what it'll be like next year.

Louise, hope you have a lovely day with your friends. Enjoy the meal this evening. Wonder what she's cooking? Not Turky I hope hehe

Sparkling, sorry if I've missed a post. Did you go for a meal last night? If so, hope you thoroughly enjoyed it. You deserve some fun and laughter.

C is still in bed. TA popped round last night (my teacher is today after school) C's christmas party is this afternoon, and I thought he'd feel well enough to go back today, but he's says differently. I know he'd want to give his teacher his present, and to see his friends before the hols, so mentioned maybe on Friday, he could go back for the day. We'll see. Still not been shopping, so emptying the freezer really, though C isn't really bothered about food. Got some chicken out to do a curry for later. At 9 in the morning, doesn't sound very tempting to be honest hehe.

Hope you all have a good day. Off to get a coffee (from the kitchen, not the cafe!!)

Haha Looby, don't feel bad! No3 son, when he was about 6, told me he wasn't feeling well and I made him get dressed, saying we'll see when we get to the childminder, get your uniform on, etc. When we pulled up there, he got out the car and threw up all over her driveway. He said 'I told you I was sick!!!'. (I think he still went to school though, because after that he felt much better....) Innocent

To get the temperature down you can try sponging your son down with lukewarm water or wrap his leges in warm towels. :-)
