singlemummynet

I'm new here so hope I'm in the right place.

I have been seriously considering venturing out into the world of work soon, my son will be 5 in Nov 2011 and I know when they reach 5 now single parents have to work, if I'm right in thinking so. And so I'm thinking maybe this year will be the year to do it before I am TOLD I have to. However I'm seriously scared of doing so due to finances etc.

My rent is pretty massive at the moment although I'm on the housing list for a housing assoc which would be cheaper obviously as at the moment I get housing beneift but I wont get that if I work will I?

I also have a great deal of bills and I'm worried about the costs of childcare, travel costs to and from work etc as well as the cost of living in comparison with what I know now with my benefits.

Is it hard to make the change? Financially is it damaging?

Ah well this was something Anna taught me Wink

Get the link ready you want to post, highlight it and right click copy. Then go onto to where you want to post it . Type "here" in the message box and highlight it. At the top of the message box you are typing it in, there are some icons including the smileys. Move four places to the left from the smiley and click on that icon ("Insert hyperlink) and a little box will appear. Right click in the top line and click paste. Then on the second line ("Target") select "open in new window". HOWEVER, if you are posting a link from the One Space site (as opposed to, say Samaritans or Women's Aid) then you also need to put your cursor on the link once it is in the little box and delete the first part of it ie http://www.onespace.org.uk BUT leave the first "forward slash in before the rest of the link address.

Now I know that sounds horrendous but it is really easy and quick Smile It may be your computer won't do it anyway, alisconcam, until mine went crazy and I had to wipe the hard drive the other week, it was quite hit and miss as to whether mine would do it or not.

something to do with the forward slashes. Am I taking both out, or just the one after the http:, or even the one before the www.    Thankyou Louise.

You delete all the first part up and including the uk but leave in the forward slash straight after the uk.

So the full link http://www.onespace.org.uk/your-talk/discussions/benefits-work becomes /your-talk/discussions/benefits-work

Now I thought how exciting to put "here" too.  I might try it one day!  (not that it looks too complicated or anything like that *whistles*)

I am very impressed with you both.....as well as relieved that my instructions worked. Alisoncam, sparkling lime's link was to another section of the site. When you first go on the home page, you will see underneath the main headline "One Space" banner that there are several headings across the page eg "Your life" "Your ex" and "Your children".Sparkling's was "your money".

Singlemummynet, how are you today? Sorry we had that little diversion. Did you have a look at the 1-2-1 money advice section?
