Well I'm home and I'm in one piece. He was very nice, we had a lovely time and a great walk, hopefully we'll get to do it again sometime.

Hazeleyes, one minute mine are telling me not to treat them like babies the next saying they're not adults...its so hard to pitch it right sometimes. Glad you got C to do his homework, mine have got an inset day tomorrow so they'll be doing it then...hopefully!!

That's brilliant Pq, glad you had a good time. Also an inset day here, but C has to come to work with me, so no time tomorrow. Hope the girls get it done in plenty of time for Tuesday.

Glad your date went well, PQ, it might feel even easier to email with him now that you have actually met in person. That's nice to have an Inset day tomorrow.

Good luck with the squirrel issue, Hazeleyes.

Hope everyone is Ok, signing off now for hols, will miss you all but it will also be good to have a few lie-ins and see various friends, and Mary will be here with you.

Am cooking sausages for tea and getting ready to tell youngest about my plans for the week, heh heh

A bit late, but enjoy your time off Louise.

I'm glad you enjoyed your walk pq :-)

I'm sorry the squirrels are back hazeleyes.  There are rats on our estate - and a lot.  I've seen two here and put poison down (bought one of those box things in case pets get to it, but not leaving the dog out).  One neighbour had 15 dancing around the bottom of his garden and another has some in her attic!!!!!!!!!

They're building a new special needs school near by, and I think they've been sent scurrying this way.  I thought at first it was just our part of the estate as it backs onto fields, but its worse, it seems in the middle.

Yuck what ever.

I got the year end done yesterday - well to the point of "submit" as I'd be happier for someone to look at it first.  I got a load of health and safety stuff assembled too for employees an for all the vans.  I'm sure the boss will think that it took all of 10 minutes and not the 10 hours I've been in over the weekend.

I feel quite free now!!

I hope that those who are back at school today have an at least ok day.  I'll be thinking of you.

Youngest is off here as he's been not too well during the night again.

Morning all,

Sounds like there has been plenty going on at the weekend for a lot of you...pleased to hear your date went well pq and good to learn that I'm not the only one who never seems to get a day off from stroppy children, hazeleyes! A has an inset day today too, but is with with her dad as she is at her tennis lesson tonight (which he takes her too and from). I'm going to be 'luscious' for a few hours shortly and earn (some of) the monies necessary to pay our council tax. Safe to say, ours has gone up too Frown

Glad you're feeling 'free' sparkling...although vermin of any nature is not pleasant. We have rats who live at the back of the 'luscious' premises - its an old building near a river - and one has been spotted that is so big we've nicknamed it 'the griffin'. Better to laugh than to cry...Good luck with the council, hazeleyes. I hope they can find out where the squirrels have been getting in & board up the hole/s for you.

Our picnic was a success - it took place outside after all (the rain didn't arrive until 4pm on Saturday for us). Always a pleasure to spend time with that particular family of friends. The home made cookies were a hit as usual, but I was more impressed with my rendition of Paul 'Silver Fox' Hollywood's bloomer, which I made into roasted veg and mozzarella sandwiches. Very, very good, if I do say so myself Wink

Right, I will pootle off for now but as Louise said, I'll be about whilst she is gadding around the country this week. Hope everybody elses's Monday looks as promising as it does here - that round glowing thing is hovering about outside, I keep catching glimpses of it through the clouds...

See you all soon x

I'm glad you enjoyed the picnic Mary.  Hope being luscious goes well!

pq, that letter is very much burning a hole in my purse - yes it is folded up ready to be handed over!

Youngest is throwing up so I didn't get to see my Aunt.  We've re-arranged for next week.  I've got some washing done, cleaned worktops and hooverd.

I'm now being lazy!  I think after 6 days of work, I can have an afternoon off.

I need to be sorting out my crafty stuff as I have a plan which I'm trying to get 17 year old to take an interest in.

He had  great time at the party on Saturday, and had such a lovely hug off the girl whose party it was.  I'm hoping that it will help him settle back into his course.  It probably won't!!

Hey 'luscious' mary, glad the picnic was a success, and it stayed dry for you all.

Sparkling, well done, or should I say you naughty woman for putting those hours in at the weekend?? Will ponder on that one! Great that you've got things sorted though.

How are you Pg?

Well today at work, I was told that there might not be a job at the end of July. Was even said, if I see another job advertised, to go for it! Won't write too much about it on here, but I am really upset, worried etc. Spoke to boss, who wasn't much help to be honest. Anyhow, back to normal tomorrow, so getting things sorted in here, and an early night for us is on the cards.

Hope everyone is okay, and has a good week.

Hi Mary, good to have you back. The picnic sounded fun.

I went for a run this morning and took H with me, she did really well and is keen to go out again, so maybe I've found myself a new running partner?

Back to work/school tomorrow so bag sorting etc going on here.

Hi Anna - just so you know, the sun had made an appearance before you came back Wink Hope you had a good break. How's your daughter? I imagine it was great to see her.

We haven't really heard too much about that date, pq...A got into running last year, bu her interest waned. I hope H keeps it up, it's good to have company when you're running (and equally good to find something both you and she enjoy!)

Oh hazeleyes, I'm sorry about the job. Try not to get too anxious - you have a few months notice and I'm sure you'll ge a glowing reference. Think of it as a new opportunity rather than a door closing?

Has youngest made a full recovery now, sparkling? and how did your 'plan' work out?

A was back to school today; she had a good day, but was disappointed as her singing lessons (organised by her dad) have suddenly stopped Frown. I knew I'd bought her that Sgt. Pepper t-shirt for a reason...

Hope everyone else has got through Tuesday ok.

What do you want to know????? we went for a walk through the forest and park, stopped off at a pub for a drink and then I went home. We chatted constantly, four hours passed very quickly, he's very easy to talk to, but he didn't make my knees wobble!! Anyway we're planning on meeting again so who knows how it will pan out. Always happy to make a new firend if nothing else.

We had a bit of 'i don't want to school itis' in our house this morning, but we managed to get over it.

its a lovely evening here, got the patio doors open and sitting in the kitchen, even turned the heating off!!!!

I'm going out with some frineds from work tonight which I'm looking forward to.

I do hope school was ok for everyone today.

Hi everyone. Welcome back Anna. Hope you had a fab time, and caught up with your daughter's news. How is she doing? How are you doing, now you've got more time away from her?

Looby, sorry you and J have been poorly. Glad you're both over it now.

Pq, that's a shame that your knees didn't wobble, wonder if his did, hehe. Like you say though, great to have another friend if nothing else. Hope you enjoyed your evening last night.

Mary, that's a shame that your daughters singing have stopped. Poor little thing.

Sparkling, glad youngest is okay now. I think you're horrid grinning at his tooing and froing. Hang your head in shame in my girl hehe.

I'm not worrying about the job, well I am, but I'm now thinking what will be (aren't I being brave) I'm more concerned about trying for another job, without holidays. Very difficult, when on own isn't it? Anyhow, no point getting stressed just yet. I worked with this particular woman this morning, and it was great. Yep, you've read right, it was really nice, and I totally enjoyed it. One day at a time sweet Jesus lol.

Hi to everyone else. Wonder what Louise is up too? Hope she's downing spirits rather than posh coffees right now!

Anna, my landlord is the council, and they won't entertain cutting the branches. Tried that last year, they don't do anything for free anymore it seems. Ho Hum, as Sparkling says.

Hi everyone, I missed a whole load of posts here yesterday morning, so I shall start again!

I'm back after having a super time, it was lovely to see my daughter, she seemed confident and at times in her element, although typical teen, she also expected me to pay for everything, take her places and generally come up with all the ideas, but it was great to be the 'two of us' again Smile So another 6 weeks for her and then she has booked festivals, holidays and all sorts of other things. I needed to remind her that at some point she needs to get a job, but she told me she is surfing the net and applying for jobs all the time!

hazeleyes, well done for keeping your chin up about your job, as one door closes another one opens, you have some good experience and I am sure good references. I certainly do know the worry of finding a job that fits in with childcare, but you will find something that suits you both, I am sure. Smile

Louse drinking spirits!! No way, she will be sipping tea out of a china cup with her pinky pointing to the sky! Kiss

What have the council said then? How much do they want to charge you?

sparklinglime, did you manage to get hold of anyone from the RAF? It would be interesting for them to 'have a chat' I'm sure. Do you still have the letter of resignation in your bag? Sounds like you have been getting out and about a bit more this last week - posh hot chocolate you lucky thingLaughing And you played Boggle!! I love that game! I think I am going to have to look for it in our local charity shops, its fab!

pq, I am sorry for the spanish inquisition with regards to your date, I had missed a page and hadn't seen that you went for a walk at a NT park. Do not worry about the wobbly knee thing. Personally I think they need to grow on you a bit to have a strong relationship, other than wham bang thank you ma'am!! How have the emails been going since?

Hopeful I am sorry to read that you didn't have a positive experience of our Money expert, we usually have such good feedback. I hope you are well and your last essay is writing itself! Wink

kiera, I am sorry to read that the doctors couldn't pinpoint the problem with your sons scan, so he has to go for another one, poor lad, does he get a treat from mum after a visit to the hospital? A hot chocolate, just the two of you? Big pat on the back for you - your daughter is dry - well done!

Looby, sorry to hear that L came home full of sickness and then you got it too Sealed, however it sounds as though you are both back on form, great to see you here again!

I hope everyone has a lovely Weds evening, its cold and grey here - take me back to Italy any day Cool

Wow Anna thats a great round up! Cool

I was happy to share the gos about my date, I just didn't want to bore you all with too much detail. We are still emailing and have a 'phone date' later so lets see.

My day at work started well but ended on a bit of a downer...its looks like they might be trying to change the terms of my job....talking about management of change processes etc...I've been down this road before a while ago and nothing changed so the same may happen this time...but it still makes me feel unsettled Frown....but as hazeleyes said...what will be will be!!

Hi pq, I think as Louise says a good standing point, is to not expect too much. There was a part of me when you said 'phone date' going oooooohhhh! But actually something that grows steadily is far better.

Saw this today and love it........

We need to teach our daughters know the difference between:

A man who flatters her
and a man who complements her

A man who spends money on her
and a man who invests in her

A man who views her as property
and a man who views her properly

A man who lusts after her
and a man who loves her

A man who believes he’s a gift to women
and a man who believes she is a gift to him

And then we need to teach our sons to be that kind of man

Sorry to hear about the changes that may be upcoming at work, it is bound to feel unsettling, but I do like your attitude - Whatever will be will be!

I hope everyone has some divine weather and is able to be out and about enjoying it?

Morning everyone,

pq, I am exactly the same if I'm not very firm with myself. I know that asking for help does not mean I'm stupid or incapable (I tell A the same thing often enough), but when you have become self sufficient and those archaic messages start telling you how useless you are...it's hard, isn't?

It seems from last night's events, or lack of spin cycle and flashing lights, that my washing machine is on its last legs Frown Not really what I need as I'm going away for a few days next week. And there's A's school uniform as well. I have managed to get it going again after a fashion this morning, so I'm hoping (more crossing of fingers) it will struggle on for a few more days.

Happy Saturday all!

I have to say my weekend has started badly; the washing machine has properly died and I ended up with a flooded kitchen to deal with first thing this morning (before I'd even had a coffee - not a good combination!) A is excited about her party later on, so I'm having to manage a bouncy 9 year old whilst facing a load of acrylics to ring out & attempt to dry. Deep breaths...

'Am okish' doesn't sound all that good to me,hazeleyes. I hope you have woken up feeling a bit brighter this morning.

On the plus side, the sun is shining brightly here today. I hope it's the same for all of you.

Weather has certainly changed again. In fact, I even put the heating on for a while, and needed a bath to warm myself up. Have been up a ladder, cutting branches down, and now I'm in agony, from neck to arms. I only did it for half hour too!!

Looking forward to Broadchurch tomorrow, the final one. Does anyone else watch this? My theory is, that the detective's hubby killed the boy, because he was abusing his son, and also the lad that was killed. Pauline Quirke's son (in programme) does resemble the detective's hubby, and she could have been mistaken. If you don't watch, you'll have no idea what I'm on about hehe. Hello all,

Have had a very tiring but fun weekend. It was my friends 50th birthday party yesterday, the girls went to their grandma's overnight so I had a very grown up time. Lots of dancing, chatting to new people and generally having a good time....the 1.30am bedtime is taking its toll now though!!!

Sorry to hear you're not feeling yourself sparkling, I'm sure you're right and it will pass, but sending you hugs until it does.

Hazeleyes, it sounds like you've had a good day in the garden. I like your theory on broadchurch....i Think the detectives son has somehing to do with it....I don't think the dead boy was as nice as we have been led to believe either.

Mary, will you get new washing machine or go for a reconditioned one? My neighbours took pity on me when mine broke down luckily, but I still managed to get behind on the washing.

I'm hoping my week at work is better this week, hope you all have a good monday x

Hi sparklinglime, how are  you feeling? I am glad that your boss took the company in hand that sent you the demanding email. Can you put your finger on what is making you feel so teary?? Big hug to you.

pq, your Saturday night sounded like a good oneSmile and I hope that your week ahead isn't as bad as you are dreading.

rudimentary mary, thank you for 'standing in', I hope the washing machine situation gets dealt with sooner rather than later and that you have a super week in Brighton.

Welcome back Louise, I hope you are feeling relaxed, refreshed and recharged!! Look forward to hearing your news.

i had a lovely weekend, another mountain bike ride - getting better at it, with picnic at the top of the hill (I was starving!), shopping and a couple of films.

I haven't watched Broadchurch, is it the final one tonight?

Hi all. Sunny here, but chilly! Anna, phone call to brother was in the holidays, and it's now all sorted. Your weekend sounds exhausting (just reading it)

Hope your son gets on okay today kiera

Half day today, had good intentions of walking in and hoovering, but alas, those intentions went out of the window. I'm sitting down, just had lunch, and here I shall sit, until time for C. Tut I know, but I don't have the energy, and the Queen isn't visiting here todayTongue Out

Looking forward to Broadchurch. Yes Anna, the final one

Welcome back Louise, we've missed you. Tell us all your news. How did your son manage? Hope the neighbours weren't neededWink

I'm glad you had a good time pq - sounds brilliant!

Mary, it's been lovely having you here, and I'll miss you too.  Have a really good time and take care.

Hope today went ok Kiera.  Such a worry for you.

I've been lazy here - not intentionally really.  Saw my Aunty this morning, and then a friend called round with her VAT for me to sort!  And another friend popped in.  Then I phoned a friend for a chat.

Enjoy Broadchurch everyone.

Ah yes Louise, were the neighbours left in peace?

There's a few things going on at the moment to bring me down.

Feeling not brilliant about work tomorrow, but then I do have the letter in my purse still.  Just need to work out if I can build up a business quickly.  Friend who dropped the VAT off thinks its time to break away - and I do too.  Connection does go back to 1997 work wise, friendship wise to 1981.  An email off my sister didn't help either!!

Ho hum is my favourite saying at the moment.

Other than that I'm fine Smile

Glad you've had friends to talk to SparklingWink If you do decide to hand notice in, as far as the friendship goes, I'm sure boss will understand, and you can still remain on good terms. You just have to make him see that what you intend to do, in the long run, will help you far more, ie working from home, where you'll be able to be around for the younger two. I'm sure you'll make the best decision. Have you spoken to boss about it all? Perhaps a chat first, then see how you feel?

Well, I've done myself proud. Came home after collecting C, straight into the bath (to avoid looking at carpet needing hoovering) dripdried as I cleaned the bathroomCool Put the dinner in the oven, C got in a bath, then I hoovered through, yeahhhh (won't mention the dusting) Going to relax in bed soon with hot botty, and wait for Broadchurch, can't wait.

Looking forward to 'seeing' Louise this week. Not sure I'll be here tomorrow, as it's work all day, then swimming.

Enjoy the evening everyone.

Hello everyone

Here I am turing up like a bad penny Laughing Great to read everyone's news although a mixed selection.

Mary thanks so much for your great input as always and look forward to seeing you again soon. Have a lovely trip to Brighton. When I worked in London, if tea or coffee was weak we always used to say "this tea looks like it needs taking to Brighton" HA.

Kiera, how is your son, hope he had his sling off now, what a worry. Looby you have been poorly, WAAAH, hope you are fighting fit now.

Sparkling, it sounds to me as if it is a time of potential upheaval for you, what with thinking about leaving work, the Scout hut closing, different considerations about 17 year old....when things change or feel like they are changing then it can rock our world. I think it is time for a few hugs in your direction!

Hazeleyes, or should I say SHERLOCK, busy day at work for you today, I am sorry to hear that your job is insecure though, have you any thoughts of your next move? Any squirrel progress?

PQ annoyances at work for you too. Have you recovered from your late night yet?

Hopeful how are things with you?

Anna I loved the poem you posted. As a mum of boys it is indeed my challenge to bring them up to understand this. However, I have to say that they have both already experienced ill-treatment by girls (particularly re fidelity) so I am thinking the poem is also apt for how men should be treated and we can also bring up our daughters to behave well towards them Wink

Holiday news next

Ok, so holiday news.

I had a fab time, that's for sure, although almost blown off the top deck of the sightseeing bus in Oxford. What a place it is! All those wonderful buildings and so many of the shops catering to the huge student population...a special pen shop, one for mortar boards and gowns, shoe shops with shoes costing £350.

Youngest did fine. I did see a video I was not supposed to see...that of his friend doing backflips off my settee. He had a barbeque while I was away and the only evidence was a leftover breadcake blowing around the garden and a rather full recycling box. Neighbours said they had not been disturbed, I am surprised as I could see he had had speakers out of the windows!!!! but the strong winds had blown a ridge tile off and it was smashed on the drive, I had to have it replaced yesterday, BOO

Funniest moment of the week: went out for a meal with friend. Was in a bit of a rush getting ready. Getting a few "looks" in the restaurant. Determined not to be fazed I contined with my starter, finished it and raised my hand to scratch my head. Oh dear. My hair had THREE velcro rollers in it! In a flash I remembered having put them in to give the front of my hair a lift. Why didn't my friend notice????? I sat it out, waited till our plates were taken away ie the waiter had his back to me but was shielding me from the rest of the  room....whipped out the rollers and tweaked my hair with my hand. LA LA LA Tongue Out
