Hello

i really need some help .I received a letter from revenue today saying they are checking my tax credit award and they need some information like contract with my childcare provider and receipt or invoices from april last year until this april .i started using childcare from 16 of july last year not april .I never got any receipts but pay to ladies bank account so i got bank statement .I am foregin and dont understand everything .I am a single mum ,work part time but my working hours per week are changing from time to time and before it happened quite often .When it changed i always called revenue to let them know about new hour and childcare costs ,sometime they said its no need coz the change need to last for 4 weeks .Now this letter and i am looking at the childcare cost in april for exemple -week one 70 pounds ,week two 87.50 ,3rd -87.50 and 4th -108.50 ,i understand it as it changed but the change didnt last 4 weeks so what am i doing in this case ?its all so confusing in march i made 5 payments and they were 115 £ ,119 ,94.50 .77and 87.50 ..few times before i called and they told me i dont need to change it coz everything is fine .I had 3 weeks of holidays in that period ,the benefit adviser told me i dont need to inform tax credits as i am entiteled to holidays .i got email saying it just in case .When i came back from holiday i had only one shift and called the revenue to ask them what to do as that week i wudnt have min 16 hrs .They said its ok if its just one off and the week after i was fine as i had 16 hours i needed .Now i am so confused so scared as i am scared that i cud have made some mistakes and i cant afford to pay some crazy amout of money off or penalty and i never done anything wrong to nobody in my life and if i made any mistakes here i didnt do it in purpose .It really stress me out now .Any one been in this kind of situation ??

Hello majorka

The reason they are asking for them from April is that is when the new financial year starts. The year runs from April 6th in one year to April 5th in the next. I imagine they are looking at the period April 6th 2012 to April 5th 2013.

Make a list of all childcare payments made during that time and add them up at the end. Make another list of all wages received during that time and add it up. These are the two figures they need to know, the annual totals. Photocopy you bank statements for the period and send in the photocopies with your lists and a letter as chocolate81 says. Keep a copy of the lists and letter you have sent as well.

If they have paid you too much last year you will get a letter telling you. Rather than having to pay back a lump sum, they can knock it off the total for this year and this spreads it out, so try not to worry, you have done your best and told them about all changes as you go along.

Yes P60, that's it. If you feel really at sea with this you can make an appointment with your local Citizen's Advice Bureau (click) and take all the paperwork along to the appointment.

I don't know the answer to this question as it usually tells you in the request/form what you need to send. The form usually just wants the annual amount, but see if they are asking you for a breakdown
