Resignation letter in bag, sorry card for my colleague...  I'm feeling quite emotional now.

That's very thoughtful of Asda, Louise.

Soooo.  I gave the letter and packet of jammy dodgers to boss, and the card and packet of jammy dodgers to colleague.

And went to make coffee.

They were both shocked and stunned.  He apologised for the put downs, saying that I should know not to take them seriously, I pointed out that he should know that I do.

I didn't expect them to be shocked.

He asked if I really had had enough after all these years (1997 when I set it up), and I said yes.

New programme being set up by one of the contractors we work for might lighten the load.  Now work 4 hours a day, Mon - Fri.  I will be leaving the building at 1pm. That means that I will have quite a bit of the day to do things, and will be around for most of the time in holidays.

He took one file, went through it, and now I have a section on our board to put stuff on.  I now have an extra engineer allocated to me for the work.  He phoned the contractor up too, to get things that will perhaps work easier, instead of leaving it all up to me.

Colleague relieved I'm staying.

However, I have said that if this doesn't work, I will leave. They're determined that it will work.

The sad part it that I didn't finish on time today, as I wanted to be home for when my daughter got home from her driving test.  However, she phoned.  She passed.  Me laughing, boss and colleague yelling congratulations too.

So while I'm still tearful (as it is unlike me nowadays, collegue thinks it might be hormones, which I hadn't thought about...), I feel it has been a positive day.

Seeing my daughter so happy is lovely.

Colleague is off on Monday (so I'll be in all day, which is fine), but she has said we will talk before then.  She's worried that she has upset me, as she will "hog" work (which is ok, as I do eavesdrop so know where most things are at).  I don't mind, and when I ask, we do things together.  I told her that it has nothing to do with her, as she has made work almost fun!

Anyhow.  I'm getting tearful.

Life is overwhelming at the moment, and I don't know why.  A weekend to chill now.

I will miss my Mondays off though.

Thank you for the hug Louise.  Very much needed.

Good morning everyone

Hope you had a good evening out, PQ.

Sparkling, well done to your daughter!!!! And well done to you for handling a very difficult and emotional day. Now....(nag nag) you do NEED to stick to the hours and other conditions you have agreed in order for "the boss" to take you at your word and see that you mean business, otherwise it is back to square one. You said you wondered about hormones. It could indeed be this or it could be that you have had such a rollercoaster of things to deal with. I get the feeling that you're very tired too, at the moment. Just run with things and try and get rest when you can, to top up your reserves.

Hazleyes, how was yesterday? Try to have a wind-down, you have the appointment on Monday. Keep things as calm as you can with C and if you have jittery energy then use it in a spot of energetic hoovering..However, if you would rather flake out on the sofa then you have my permission with great big wooden knobs on!

I have a few shopping errands to do today, don't all feel too jealous  Tongue Out but one of them is that I am getting a new ironing board cover WOWEE. I do not iron except for cotton dresses but son now is doing some shifts at a nightclub and has bought himself a penguin outfit. We had a shirt-ironing tuition session yesterday (he has been shown before but did his usual trick of looking out the window during the whole thing, whereas now he really cares about his shirt looking nice) and I noticed that there was a huge hole in the cover.

He made me laugh because he wanted to know if he had been paid for last week's night club stint. He went into the bank to check and phoned me from there.

Son: MUUUUUUUUUM, is it the 10th of May?

Me: Yes, love.

Son: Well on my bank account there is something called FPI. Does that stand for Finance Paid In?

Me: No....what is it next to?

Son: Well it says credit. Is that money paid in then?...oh yes I have a debit card for getting money out so a credit is the opposite.... (I can hear the cogs going round at this stage)....anyway it is £56, is that the nightclub money?

Me: How many other people do you know who might put £56 in your account?

Son: haha oh right BYEEEEE.

Good morning everyone. Louise, I absolutely love hearing about your son, always makes me laugh. I myself need a new ironing cover, so thanks for the reminder.

Sparkling, a huge congratulations to your daughter. I'm so pleased for her. Who is buying the car? hehe. Well done too on having the courage to give the boss the letter. Hopefully, things will change now, but you have to stick to leaving at the correct times etc, or it will go back to how it's been.

Pq, hope you had a lovely time last night with the neighbour.

I didn't go to the funeral yesterday. I just knew I would have broken down, and wouldn't have been any kind of support, so I sent my brother a text in the morning, just to say I'd be thinking of them all.

The emersion is now working (brand new one) they came and did this on Thursday. The boiler man was also supposed to have turned up, but didn't. After calling the company, they were insisting someone had been out to me, but the part was wrong!! Promised a call back, after me saying NO ONE had been, but that call didn't come either, so again, I rang them. A lovely young chap was so sorry (not his fault) and has booked the job for this morning, so fingers crossed, someone does arrive!!

My head is all over the place at the moment, but I'm really trying not to think about Monday (though it's hard) Today, once the fella has been, I need to go food shopping, then a general tidy up in here. Weather doesn't look too good out there, so maybe no garden today, oh well.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend. Hello to everyone who pops into the chatroom.

Great that you have the immersion done Hazeleyes and fingers crossed for the boiler. As for Monday, if I lived near you I would come along with you but as it is you will just have to take all us One Spacers in your handbag (metaphorically) and please know that you will be very much in my thoughts Kiss

Thankyou LouiseKiss

The boiler wasn't doneYell I rang and asked what time I could expect them, and the woman said 'No one is out to you today, you're booked for Monday morning'

I went through everything again with her, and she was very insistant that someone did indeed come out to me Thursday afternoon. Don't these people actually listen??? I explained that Monday was no good as I had a hospital appointment. Her reply? 'Well, can you ring us from the hospital?' Explained that I would be having tests. She then went on, as if totally oblivious to what I was saying 'You're allowed to ring from hospitals now' I asked would she like me to ring when I was having the scan, xray, or other tests being done? No answer from other end, I wonder why!! So so maddening. Yes, I'm extremely grateful for the immersion Louise Smile

How frustrating hazeleyes, the lady on the phone just wasn't listening to you was she?

My friend came over tonight and had dinner with us. We watched a film about a group of teenage girls and a pair of lucky pants (jeans, it was american!) there was quite a bit of teenage kissing in it and H started to mimic them making all sort of slurping noises. My friend and I started laughing so H turned round and said "well this kissing stuff is disgusting, they even stick their tongues in each others mouths"....I hope she remembers that when she's older!!!

Girls should be with their dad tomorrow but he has cancelled, which means I've had to cancel my plans, so frustrating....grrr!

Oh what a pain, PQ, why has he cancelled? Those movie/TV moments can be quite useful for talking to our children about things, as you say let's hope she remembers it afterwards hehe. Oh how I wish I had some lucky pants though! Tongue Out

Hazeleyes, I am not going to say "I don't believe it" about the boiler because sadly I do. How absoutely infuriating. Make sure you have the woman on speed dial so you can talk to her between mammograms; I loved it that you said that to her. Yes, on Monday I hope you will feel our positive vibes, I will certainly be sending you plenty! Try to relax today.

Sparkling how are feeling this morning?

It's church for me this morning, giving a lift to my friend as she is waiting for a cartilage operation on her knee. Son rolled in at 7.30, this nightclub job seems to be restricting his drinking time, so he was sober-ish and quite cheery

Hi loiuse, their dad has a new job which seems to be a bit irratic, but I'm not overly convinced he is always working when he says he is, especially today, but what can I do? The girls seem to be in a state of reluctant acceptance that he's unreliable which is such a shame for them. So I have turned today into an opportunity for us girls to have a fun day together...his loss is my gain Smile

Hi everyone,

I love to have a nosey at what you've all been up to.  Life certainly has it's highs and lows.

I had a job interview on Friday for a permanent full-time teaching position - at a school that I've been doing odd supply days for since October.  It was between me and a new teacher....guess who got offered the post? Not me. Cry

Could it be my lesson was crap? No, it wasn't - they said it was very good.  Could it be my interview was rubbish? No, apparently I came across 'strongly' or could it be that I'm a single mum and therefore wouldn't be a 'reliable' member of staff or a slave to work???  I think the latter.  Was really upset but thankfully had a PTFA night at my children's school which I thoroughly enjoyed and forgot my woes for a few hours.  Saturday wasn't quite such fun - hungover and still in employment limbo.  Still, their loss....

Hi all, what a busy weekend!

Thinking of you today hazeleyes, it is going to be a bit of a squash in your handbag, but we will all be there with you. I hope you had a restful evening yesterday and you are being kind to yourself today, take it gently. Big hugs and let us know how you are.

pq, what is going on then? You found out that he wasn't working, did he tell you that, did he tell the girls? Have you spoken with him? It was so lovely to read that although your plans were put out, you decided to look on the bright side and have a lovely girly day, did you do that in the end anyway?

Hi sarahb34, I am so sorry to hear that you didn't get the job, you were so close, I am sure that you are feeling upset, but I always tell myself, there must be a reason, it is keeping you freed up for something better! Cool I hope you recovered from your hangover and you and the children had a good Sunday.

Congratulations to sparklinglime junior for passing her test! It is so lovely to see them so happy isn't it I agree. Also congrats to you too, for finally making your voice heard in the office, it sounds as though they really appreciate all that you do and your boss has made some changes to make sure that you stay. As hazeleyes says though, please stick to your hours as much as possible, otherwise they will take the mickey, not to spite you, but just because they can. I hope you had a restful weekend? How are you feeling today (despite the fact you are in work on your usual day off)?

Louise, did you get the ironing board cover? What pattern did you get? I don't iron (as you know!) but I love the amount of different designs there are now for sale!

Happy Monday to everyone, today is the first day of the rest of our lives, lets do one really nice thing just for us today! Including and especially you hazeleyes. Smile

Anna, I found out because we saw his car so A text him and he said he wasn't working!!! Probably forgot he told me he was!!! We went shopping on Sunday for holidays clothes as we go to Tunisia next week which got us all excited. I have decided to use 'his loss my gain' as my mantra as I don't want the girls to think neither of us want to spend time with them.

Hi Kevin :-)

pq - my ex used to forget that he'd told me he was working too ;-)  I'm sure you're all getting excited about going away now - a good distraction for the girls.

I'm sorry you didn't get the job sarah - could another reason be that the other teacher would be on a cheaper payscale?

My colleague didn't need to have the day off today, so I was home before 2pm (she did need to pop home for an emergency thing or I would have left on time...)  She seems determined that I do stick to finishing on time so that it becomes routine and not something that makes me feel guilty.

I spoke to my aunty this afternoon, who is a bit upset about me working on Mondays as that is the day we meet up.  I'm meeting up with her on bank holiday Monday, and work have already agreed to me going in late every now and then for me to see her.  I can't get down to her house anymore now I'm disabled, so very limited on times I can see her.

I've been to a housing association meeting this evening.  They wanted ideas on how to help the finances of tenants.  I suggested that the £3k they have set aside for a fun day was spent on buying lotto and Euro lottery tickets instead.  That suggestion wasn't taken forward...!!

Hazeleyes, I hope you're ok, and able to sleep tonight. xx

Hello to everyone in the chatroom Laughing My day off featured not one but TWO posh coffees so I was very lucky Tongue Out

Hazleyes, I have been thinking of you and hoping yesterday was not too much of an ordeal, let us know how you are doing when you feel up to it, we are here for you.

Sparkling, I agree with your colleague that you MUST leave on time, in order to reinforce your stance apart from anything else. It's good that you will still have time with your aunty. You could still go at 1 sometimes, to meet her? The Lottery suggestion aboutt he 3k was very unselfish of you, you could have suggested it was tranferred to the sparkling bank account heheh.

PQ how absolutely infuriating that he lied! although not a surprise to you, I do agree about the girls though, how clever of you to spot that, you never know if they would feel a bit "unwanted" by too much argy bargy. Good idea to emphasise the positive, is Tunisia in half term? Hooray!

What nice thing did you do for yourself, Anna? The ironing board cover is pink with large multi coloured dots on, guaranteed to turn the most robust of stomachs, heh heh

Hi kpw99 welcome to the chatroom! So a cook breakfast this morning, yum! Do you work from home?

sparklinglime, I loved your idea of how to spend the money, its a shame it never got taken up, what will they be doing on the Fun Day that costs 3K?

hazeleyes, how are you doing? Thinking of you.

Louise, I can't believe that you bought an ironing board cover, mostly for your son to do his work shirts, that is pink with multicoloured spots!! It sounds gorgeous, but does your son agree?! Yesterday, as I said that we must do something nice for ourselves, when I got home, I got into bed!! After about an hour I got up and cooked a delicious moroccan dish that I found, it was lovely!

The weather outside is abysmal, so I might go and do the same tonight too!!

I hope everyone else has a good evening. Smile

Hi all. Sorry I haven't been on to update on Monday, but I've been run ragged! It is good news, I have a cluster of lumps (cysts) Mammogram and scan confirmed that they are all okay, and nothing sinister in it, then back to the clinic. Any changes, and immediately go to GP. Cannot tell you what a huge relief it was and is. After the appointment, I was absolutely shattered, so once C and I were sorted, I decided on a very early night, watching TV in bed. So, with PJ's on, I was all ready, when elderly neighbour rang. Her husband was complaining of his breathing, and she'd called an ambulance. Wanting me to go over, we quickly threw some clothes on, and within 5 mins I was there. Paramedics arrived at the same time. They took him to hospital, though they didn't seem too concerned. She was quite shaken, so we stayed for a bit. Anyhow, he is home, so all okay there.

SATS have started, so it's all go. Kids are doing well though.

Hope to catch up properly soon, but do hope you're all okay. Thankyou for all your support. I have one x ray to go for, but that's for another time to post. xx

kpw99, why do you think you are feeling a bit flat today? Do you get affected by the weather? Do you have any plans over the summer?

hazeleyes, fabulous news!! sorry to hear that you had to get back out of bed, it sounded like pj's and tv were just what you needed, but its all good karma, I am sure Smile

kiera - wow, you must be sooo proud of your son, you have mentioned before that he is bright, fingers crossed for his interview results, when will you know? I was out of the office for three hours yesterday though, picking up two for orthodontist and then taking them back.  Felt better for making up hours. As for the full time bit when colleague off, not much choice really - unless I do get her work and my work done on time.

Today I finished and went to get some snacks and had lunch with colleague before going to the scout hut to sort stuff for tonight.  So much more planning when you meet elsewhere.

Our £1 offer for the site was not accepted.  It seems they sold the site in recent weeks - yeah right.  I figure they want the £105k!  pq - seeing the MP tomorrow to see if he can push things through for a site for the scouts.  We've been waiting to here about one piece of land since the summer!  (last year, not the summer we had a couple of weeks back).

Pain builds up during the day, which is so annoying...  It's not a bad morning here. Youngest has gone to a friend's house with a friend of his, and I'm picking them up later.  Seventeen year old is asleep and has loads of work that he has to get done by Monday for college, and daughter is very happy as her full licence has arrived, and sad as she can't drive the car yet.

I'm going to have a bit of a crafty day.  I need to make a card as my Aunty (not really my Aunt, but they were my Mum and Dad's best friends) has phoned to say my Uncle has died.  I've not seen them for an age, and they only live down the road (have been calling but no answer when I've been).

I hope you're ok Louise, and youngest is getting on well with new girlfriend...

I hope everyone is ok too.

Morning..or should I say afternoon?

the excitement is building here, partly down to me as I'm feeling it too Laughing. I've been checking the weather in Tunisia daily for about the last 4 weeks!! and yes it is very nice to see a steady 25-30 degrees Cool. Put all the clothes that are ready in the suitcases this morning so I really am ahead the game.

I love travelling by train louise, I used to commute into London every day before I had children and I loved it, the journey was a big part of my day.

Sparkling I can't imagine what it must be like to be in pain all the time, you must find it very tiring.

The weather here is overcast, hopefully it wont rain so I can cut the grass.

Good afternoon everyone. Wow Pq, I am so jealous of you going away. Is it just you and the girls?

Sparkling, sorry to hear you're in pain. I hope you manage to rest a bit today. Also sorry to hear about your 'uncle'.

Anna, are you doing anything sweaty today?

Louise, your evening out sounded nice, and you didn't have to drive either, bonus. How's your son and his new girlfriend? Have you  met her yet?

Both fine here. Weather is miserable, but what's new? Had friends over last night, so had a late night. Have someone over later too, but I'm thinking of cancelling as I've been awake since 5, so am really tired. If I can manage a sleep, then I'll be fine, if not, we can do it another time.

Hope everyone else is doing okay, and enjoying the weekend.

Hello I have caught up with my reading and finished my book club book Laughing

Sorry about your "uncle", sparkling. Did 17 year old get any work done?

PQ I used to travel into London too..for a while I lived in Guildford and then I moved to Hitchin before coming oop North. But I used to find the journey very busy. Once woke up in one of the old-fashioned carriages to find not only had I fallen asleep on an old chap's shoulder but I had dribbled on him, how mortifying, poor man.

Good that you had a sociable evening Hazeleyes, did you manage a nap to prepare you for tonight?

Girlfriend news....have I met her? no, but I have seen the outline of her leg, haha. She was the second girl I was surprised to discover in his room when I suspected that despite my reaction after the first time, he had brought someone else home and I peeped round the door. I have said that I need to meet her and it needs to be an established relationship before she stays over

Good morning all. Well the girls have gone out with their dad today....hoorah that he kept to the arrangement this time, so I've got a day to myself. Going to do some shopping but will probably spend the rest of the day relaxing. My friend gave me some e-books on a memory stick so I'm going to see if I can get them on my kindle. I cut the grass yesterday so that doesn't need doing. The weather man threatened us with some warm weather today so might get to sit in the garden Cool

Hope everyone else will have a good sunday.

Hazeleyes, the homework hasn't been done here yet, I'm predicting problems later!

**gasp** Louise...

Have a good day shopping pq.

Hope you've had some sleep hazeleyes.

The grass needs cutting here.  Daughter's friend was here yesterday, so didn't disturb her.  Overcast, but not cold and it is dry...
