We live squashed between the sea and the mountains so we are lucky, I try to stay out of the house as much as possible with the kids walking about exploring the countryside, it's cheep, we can get a nice cooked meal of some sort in one of our local cafes for ten to fifteen quid and so if that's all I'm spending in a day it's quite affordable.
Every now and then we splash out and get a family day ticked for the bus and go explore somewhere farther afield that usually ends up being a thirty to forty quid day though, so not too many of them.
We go camping at times too, wild camping, it's free.

Hi bubblegum, I love hearing about your outdoorsy life, so lovely for the children. Do you or would you go to a local single parent event, if there was such a thing near you?
Probably, I'd give it a go. I do tend to go to everything that is put on by people.
I went on a parenting course run by the local W.I. about two years ago in the village, but then I was the only one that turned up, it was a bit strange and then they asked me if I'd like to come along to Sunday school as well and so I beat a hasty retreat.

When my daughter was smaller I would love to have known where single parent specific events were.
