Have you had/have you got step-children? What were the difficulties? What good tips can you pass on now?

Or were you a step-child yourself and how did you feel/behave towards your step-parent?

Love to know your experiences :D

hehe,
I was a step-child.
Mum had series of boyfriends my brother and I tried to get rid of. Age 6-15.

Trick 1
Ask the same question of both stepfather and mum at separate times. Then choose the best offer and play them off each other. Guaranteed to start an argument between them.

Trick 2
Kick back of seat of stepfather in car repeatedly and claim it was an accident. Really excellent wind-up. Also, they driving and strapped in. Leave for 10 minutes and repeat. Bad tempered-ness usually a strain for prospective step-parent to avoid with future partners children. Add some pressure!

Trick 3
Very innocent sounding humming. Huuuummmmm! Starts off bearable, but can turn the most saintly of step-parents into angry rhino after 15 mins. Hard for step-parent to critisise happy humming! Anything that makes step-parent lose cool.

Trick 4
Develop an annoying tick. Like clearing gunge from back of throat. Ghhuuuuygh - ughhth - snooort! Again bearable for a couple of times. Infuriating to step-parent when they on their own, or dinner times. Show their lack of patience up! Only need repeat 5 times for desired effect. Then repeat daily for 2 weeks.

Trick 5
Call in the night. Who is this guy in bed with mum? Time to have some night terrors and keep them up all night! Just tell mum you heard strange noise...

Trick 6
Just tell him you hate him.

Trick 7
When it's time to come in for dinner. Run like hell. Pretend you never heard.

Trick 8
Eat at dinner time with your mouth as wide open as possible. Cement mixer effect goes on for 2-3 mins before verbal explosion imminent.

There's loads more...

In the end we met our match. He loved mum so much nothing would put him off.
Course I love him now, now he's gone. Told him before he died. And thanked him. Kissed his head.

To all step children (who wont be on this site anyway!!)

Remember that your parent loves this other person, so all of the above tricks will upset them immensely and may cause arguments between the adults. :?

And to all step-parents and potential step-parents: remember that you may have to deal with some of these tricks, and your love for the child's parent is what will get you through the difficult bits.....
