Please help

nandia

Hi!
I know this site is for parents, but since I could'nt find help anywhere else, and soon I am going to be one (parent) I thought I should give it a try.I am now 6 months pregnant and my partner left me when he found out.At the moment I am not working and really don't know what to do.The thing is..he is a british citizen, but I am not.I am euopean(greek) and that makes it difficult for me to find out if I am allowed to any benefits or not.I lve in Uk for more than four years. If anyone knows anything that can help me then pleeeaaase...reply.

Hi nandia
Just a thought, but you could always try Citizens Advice Bureau. I am sure they would be able to tell you anything you need to know. Where are you actually staying at the moment? Are you living with friends?

Hello nandia

You are welcome to have joined us, and many congratualtions on your expected baby, wonderful but scary too!

As you say it is important to find out what help you are entitled to. You can indeed go to your local Citizen's Advice Bureau as has been suggested or you could phone 0800 055 6688 (a free call from a UK landline but not free from a mobile). There are different rules for people of different nationalities and whether you have ever worked in the UK in the past.

Hi Nandia
Hope you are well. Not sure if this will help you in anyway, haven't really had time to look through it. Click on the video part, it talks of how long you have to be in country before you can claim benefits etc.

Not sure how much help it will be to you. Good luck

Hello Alison.Again...thanks for the reply. The video was good, but the problem is that it talks mostly about non european citizens.I think being european turns to be a bad thing instead of a good thing!!!I emailed the city council now and waiting for their answer.I thing they will know a few more things to tell me.

Hi nandia

Congratulations on your pregnancy, it sounds as though you have been having a pretty difficult time, what with your partner leaving you and benefit entitlement worries.

From what I can gather from a colleague, as Greece is an EU country and that you have been working in this country you will have been paying National Insurance, therefore you will be entitled to benefits. So I suggest you go to your local Jobcentre and ask to speak to an advisor there, hopefully they will be more knowledgeable of the situation.

Let us know how it goes. Do you have any names for the baby yet??

I have just found this site, where EU citizens can post a question, I wonder if they would be of any help?
