Its new to me

Maz64

My husband and I have just agreed that after many years of struggling to keep it together we must now separate. I havent got a clue what to do re the house, our son or anything. Its also amicable which makes it worse in a way. Can anyway tell me where is the best place to get advice from on the marital home etc. thanks in advance. Maz

Hello Maz

Sorry to hear your news but you are welcome to join us :)

it is important for you to get legal advice at an early stage, and also consider what the arrangements for your son may be. Go to http://www.communitylegaladvice.org.uk/index.jsp and type in your postcode in the section "find an adviser" on the left of the page. Most family solicitors should give you the first 30 min interview free. Check when you make the appointment. The more you and your husband can agree to before the legal process starts, however, the easier it will be and cheaper so think things through before you go to an adviser.

I would also like to recommend a book to both of you: "Putting Children First" by Karen and Nick Woodall, available from amazon or play.com. It is a guide to the end of relationships and particularly how to parent successfully apart.

Take care and please feel free to join in any of the threads

thank you
