Introduction

Amelie

Hi...Am 36, have been divorced for many years and am a single mom of a 14 year old son. He's fab but we don't have much of a support network. Family and friends never fully understand what it is like to be a single parent and when you're having an off day the last thing you want to hear is "things could be worse for you". So, I'm here hoping to be around men & women who do understand that it's good just to offload, be understood and perhaps find an answer to whatever is going on.

Hi Amelie

Lovely to 'see' you here.

The support here is brilliant, and I have found it invaluable.

Hi Amelie
Welcome to One Space. I know exactly what you mean about having an off day, and not wanting to hear on that particular day that 'things could be worse'.
Everyone on this group is :) very understanding, helpful, and shoulders to cry on, (if you need one).
Take care, and look forward to chatting.

Hi Amelie

We hear you! Of course there are million people much worse off than us, but right here, right now, from our shoes, we might be having it pretty tough. Maybe not everyday, but we need our friends and especially our family to know how ****** hard it is raising a child on your own. I understand your frustration!

Please join in anywhere you like, talk about what you wish and I am sure you will find a sympathetic ear, an understanding heart and giggles too!

Is your son starting GCSE's this year?

I know, it's scary isn't it? You have done a great job bringing him up thus far, it is not easy and we are all here to share your good days and bad :)

Hi Amelie, welcome! :)

Can I ask, since it'll be me in a few years ... what's it like living on your own with a teenage boy? I wanted a boy (and I got one) because I reckoned a teenage boy would be much less work that girl, but I'm interested to hear it from the frontline!

He'll probably ask for a motorbike, I know I did and my dad said yes! something I doubt very much that I'll be saying to my own son.

Hi Amelie

My daughter is in her first year of GCSE's, I can't believe how quickly it has gone! Is your son finding that there is a LOT of pressure on him during years 10 & 11?

I can only conclude that my dad wanted me to die in some horrific motorbiking accident, yet more evidence to prove that I was in fact adopted and they never loved me : )

I was only joking :D they were just right on hippy liberal types who said stuff like 'yes dear if it makes you happy' , or 'Why don't you try it dear and see what happens', or 'if you are going to rebel could you go and do it quietly somewhere else please dear'.

My ten year old was sailing this morning at Plas Menai.

Seeing a major gale force wind whipped up while they were out on the water gave them a very exciting experience!

Oh yes, and the rain came down again...

She's ok thanks. She's fed up of the cast now - who can blame her? Don't think she's too keen on her mother barging into the bathroom and scrubbing hair and armpits on her behalf!! We have a good laugh though, so I hope I'm not traumatising her too much.

Waiting for the school nurse to come about the youngest  Late again... Not a bit late either! Usually she phones up a lot later to apologise for not coming or to confirm the 'wrong' day.

At least my kitchen is tidy :D She has to sit in here as the chairs in the living room are too low for me.

Let us know what the nurse says. Your poor daughter must be really fed up as well, how much longer does she have the cast on?

Posted on: November 24, 2009 - 1:42pm

Hi Sparklinglime - hope the wait for the nurse is not too long although on a day like this it must be quite nice to have an excuse to stay in isn't it?! Has your daughter been able to get everyone to sign and draw on the cast? I broke my wrist when I was little and that was the best bit. The worst bit was having itches under the cast that couldn't be scratched! Had to get a pencil and poke it in and wriggle it around!

Ohhh sparkling I must have missed something....your daughter has broken something and it is in a cast? her leg?? arm? The Poor thing :|

Poor you as well, nurse sparkly is on duty as always! i hope the nurse turned up yesterday and didn't call with some lame excuse.

I too hope she got all her pals to sign it. My girl broke her leg on a slider when she was 2.5, she ended up in a cast up to her thigh, poor thing. It was awful, but we still have the cast and it is SOOO cute! I might have to scan it and put it on the Famiy Quilt, to share my trauma!!

Hope you are well today, we have blue sky - don't know how long for though!

She has a suspected cracked scaphoid bone in her wrist. Her plaster makes her look like she's doing a thumbs up sign! I tease her, but she's very good humoured about it. She got blown of a windsurf board simulator with the Splash thing they've been doing with the Scouts. Their first accident in 25 years!! My daughter is impressed with that :D

School nurse didn't come, but said she would call this afternoon. I've had a message left to say she's ill and will phone next week to re-arrange  Every appointment has been broken. I know that my youngest's issues aren't life threatening, but even so, no wonder I give up chasing them.

Social Services is here at the mo, fitting grab rails by my back door and on the wall by the bath. He's measuring up to make a step by my back door and to make a base to raise the level of the armchair in the living room - which I've not sat on for over 9 months as my leg locks when I get up.

I've also had a request for two photos and £2 for the blue badge too, which has been approved.

Makes me feel quite pathetic really. Yet I know I really don't have much choice.

I am glad that you have got some helpful things fitted round the house (hey a butler would be handy round the house, couldn't you ask for one, sparkling? ;) preferably handsome heh heh) Also the blue badge will help you LOADS, as you will be able to park in all manner of places, don't feel pathetic, it will make life easier and that's fantastic.

Hi sparkling

"cracked scaphoid bone" sounds hideous!! Poor thingm but it sounds as if she is being quite lighthearted about it (I wonder where she gets that from?! :?) Your scouts sounds like great fum, all we ever did in brownies was sing songs and make sandwiches and beds!!

How frustrating about the school nurse, you knew she wouldn't come, but you still have to arrange your day around them, in case they actually DO turn up.

Great to hear you hare having all sorts of new fixtures and fittings to make your life easier, I think it sounds quite exciting! Did they decide you could have a shower in the end?

Don't feel pathetic, this is all good stuff to enhance your life. One of my best frineds has a blue badge and its great!! It means she can do the things she needs to without the worry and it means free parking, hooray! Indulge yourself with it, its about time someone started looking out for you :)

Oh yes. That would be an idea! Handsome too - lovely 8-)

Chap came back with a colleague to fit the step this morning. He's made a suggestion that I de-clutter. Thanks, I said, I hadn't though of that

Keeping stuff would actually be a good start :D

I've had a bath-board Anna. It takes courage to use it though! I take my time. I've had a grab rail put on the bath too, but not quite in a helpful place. Never mind. Having a shower is lovely!

I've been trying to print a photo off for the badge. Either too big or too small. You think they'd give passport option in these photo-wizard sites.

Hi Sparklinglime.
Sorry to hear about the no-show school nurse that you had to wait around all afternoon for - how annoying! What I find really frustrating is that it is alright for them to do that to us but if we were to miss an appointmnt or whatever there would be some punishmnet, comment or retribution - same with the banks, if they make a mistake then it is OK but if we do then we have charges to pay!
Anyway good to hear you are having bits and bobs fitted in the house so you can have a shower and sit in your comfy chair more easily again! Good luck with the photo for the badge, Louise is right, that will make things so much easier as you can practically park anywhere!
Do you have any plans for the weekend - or is that a silly question?! Do you have any plans to stop and relax at the weekend????!!!!
Enjoy C-L!
