Haircut hell!

Lionheart99

Hi there. I'm new to this forum -I haven't read through any old threads yet so I'm sorry if this is a common subject already in discussion.

I'm a single dad / parent-with-care of an 9 year old daughter. My ex has our daughter every alternate weekend and occasional days in the week.

This week my ex gave my daughter an awful haircut, which I saw yesterday when she returned home. It looked OK at first glance (fortunately, as I would not wish to embarrass my daughter about her appearance). It's hard to describe what her hair looks like..... it's really ragged, and not in a good way. At best, I suppose you could say it's a hack job by someone with obviously no training in hairdressing!

Anyway, I've decided to make her an appointment at a salon to get it tidy for the new school term which starts next week.

I haven't let on to my daughter that I think her haircut is bad. She was really happy and proud that her mum did her hair. I just need some guidance as to how I'm going to persuade her that it needs fixing, and how to dissuade my ex from doing this sort of thing again.

Any advice will be gratefully received

hi

That's a hard one...

Unless you tell her as a special treat before going back to school that she's having a make-over and maybe buy a t-shirt or something too... You could say that you'd booked it as a surprise.

Hairdresser could maybe 'tidy' it up, so it's vaguely the same style - just neater?

Sorry, not much help, I know.

Makeover is such a good idea, sparkling!! You wouldn't even need to buy her any new clothes, Lionheart99, but maybe instead you could get one of those little nail kits/manicure sets from Superdrug. You could let her do your nails as well (not very manly I know but I used to love pretending I was a hairdresser and doing my dad's hair  )...or do they do nails at the hairdresser's (need not be expensive if you explain it is a mini treatment) I suggest you have a word with the hairdresser before you take your daughter and she will play along with the makeover thing and won't say "oooh who cut this?"

Totally agree with the others make a big fuss of it a whole pamper day for her, and it doesn't have to cost the earth start at home doing her nails, maybe let her do yours  that's what we do. Buy her some new chear clips with the coloured hair on and finish it off at the hairdressers where you could ask them to put the hair clips in.

As for you ex i think you should be upfront and honest try to explain that decissions like this should be made together.

Hi Lionheart99

Did you do the pamper thing? I though it was a very clever of sparklinglime to come up with such a great idea. I probably would have told my daughter that it was a little bit uneven at the back and we would get it sorted.

What did you decide to do in the end? Did you get your daughter to the hairdressers?

Booked in today.... manicure, foot massage and hair cut.... I told her it was a full 'pampering' that the salon offers to girls on the last day before going back to school.
Can't afford it, but what the hell!

Also, I spoke to the stylist and asked her to be sensitive about the 'hack-job', i.e. not to say "who the hell did this to you??!!"
