Celebrations

I saw an incredible story on Net Mums about the number of people having "half-birthday" parties (complete with champagne lol) Here is the story:

http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/families/news/Parents_throwing_half_bir...

I once had a boyfriend whose birthday was December 23rd and so he had always had a half birthday in June when he was a child. I was a bit worried when his Mum still sent him half-birthday cards when he was 40 though :-)

Anyway.....my question to you is what other unusual celebrations have you attended/heard of?

Actually I have already thought of one more recent type of celebration: a divorce party!

We could always have a One Space party online. And as it is a virtual party then there will be no expense spared and our imaginations need know no limits.......

Might be totally off topic, as I should be doing a spread sheet and not on here!!  Just got the computer off my son...

My lot all have winter birthdays, so their birthday party was held in the summer holidays.

I called it their non-birthday party.

I would have a bouncy castle and a boucy slide and we'd have one party in the morning and one in the afternoon.

Bit tough maybe as the childrne had no presents and cards, but the parents would come along with their children (our record was 16 cars parked on the driveway and grass) and bring food and drinks.  It was a "cheap" day, split between them (more of a bargain as the younger children got old enough to join in...).  It broke up the summer holidays too, and was lovely for me to see some of the mum's.

They miss their non-birthday party, but you'd never fit in a small bouncy castle in this garden!!

That sounds lovely Sparkling. You're really great to think of that sort of thing, and something the children will always remember too.

I like the sound of a One Space party online Louise! Just name the time and date, obviously I'll find the place, hehe

We have recently been invited to a half birthday, which is a bit annoying as my son will be 3 in sept we have alot of birthdays around this time of year already!and not to mention 'fundays!' and all other summer events goin on. and it get dull and lonely in the winter, would love to go to parties, getting out and seeing people is worth getting rained on, or snowed into someone elses house! However i can see why you might not want a small house filled with small people. My birthday is in January and people arent very up for much just after christmas so my solution will be do both, can now celebrate sons bday as if it were my own!

I don't want to go off TOPIC but a party might give us a bit of a BOOST, just WISPA the details though..... hahaha.

Smellie, I agree about the winter parties, everything goes very quiet in January and February, it might be worth clubbing together with other parents and hiring a church hall or similar, with lots of room for them to run around.

Ok, OK, i hear people clammering for a One Space online party!

I also notice that people want things going on in the winter....so this gives me time to talk to the team and see if this is something we could arrange!! No promises though!

Keeping on topic though, I can't think of other celebrations at the moment.  I notice the americans have all sorts of celebrations.  On August 1st it's Girlfriend's Day! Where you celebrate the special bond of friendship that you share with girl pals!

There are lots of celebrations listed on the site below, had to laugh as Bird Day is in January when they have all flown South for the winter....One of the best is backwards day, I wonder if you have to walk and talk backwards all day, what fun! Imagine putting our messages on One Space backwards!
