The Government have announced that jobseekers refusing to apply for or to leave a zero hours contract will not be sanctioned.

The Minister for Employment Esther McVey says "Jobseekers are not required to apply for zero-hours vacancies and they will not be sanctioned as a result of not applying" (2nd April).  She also states that people will also not be penalised if they leave such a job"

Here is the announcement.

We at SPAN/One Space want to make sure that this change translates into the advice given at the Jobcentre and on the Work Programme.

That is indeed wonderful news. My son had one of these contracts for his first job and I understand where employers are coming from but anyone who has reposnibilities such as rent or children needs to know what money they have coming in and to have it guaranteed.
