Hi Everyone, i'm looking for a bit advice. I hope someone knows the answer.

I have been on the work program for several months now and it's been going okay so far.

I have an hour long appointment on Monday morning. We're in full swing of the school holidays and i have absolutely no help with childcare.  My advisor is on holiday this week and by the time she gets back it will be time to go for my appointment.

My advisor was aware i had childcare issues from the start, she was made aware of this again when she booked the latest appointment and told me just to get a babysitter....

My question is can i take the children with me? All i do is sit at a desk with my advisor and update her on my progress so far. I can't leave them home alone (both are under 10) and i can't not attend either.

Thanks in advance for any help received.

Hi Cazzz80. If you click on the blue link, it's of other's experiences of the work programme, which might help you.  here

I'm sure you'd be able to take the children with you. Like you say, you're only updating them. I would take a few things to keep them occupied, and if anything is said, explain about the childcare issues. Good luck.

Thank you for the link, this has been very useful. I really don't have a choice on taking them with me. Taking them something to keep them occupied is a good idea. Updating them is all i ever do apart from recieving the occasional job list for nightshift work.  Thanks.

I rang the office today and explained the situation. They managed to pass the message on to the lady i see and she contacted me within the hour.

All i have to do is email in all updates every two weeks or sooner if there are any major developments. A new meeting is to be arranged for the first week of September. No sanctions are to be incurred either. Phew!!

Thank you to everyone for your help and advice.

Cazzz80,

I hope you had a great summer with your children and that your interview with the Work Programme goes well this week.

I work at SPAN the charity that runs One Space and I am doing a project on single parents experience of the Work Programme.  I am interviewing single parents on the telephone and then will draw their experiences together to try and highlight good and not so good practice in order to improve services.  In return for half an hour of your time I can offer a £20 shop voucher.  Your personal details will not be shared.

I would love to hear from you.
