Single parent here on JSA and applying for all part-time jobs, which lately are a lot of temporary Christmas jobs. My question is, IF I manage to get myself a Christmas job, what happens after Christmas when that job ends?

The job itself will likely be for 6 weeks in the run upto Christmas and the week after it. So what happens to my Job Seekers money? It would stop once I am employed right? Even though it might only be for a 6 week job. But then after my Christmas job ends, do I go back on Job Seekers Allowance? Will it be my old claim opened back up? Or will it be a new claim? Really unsure what the procedure is in this situation and whether I should even go for a Christmas job if they could stop my Job Seekers Allowance because the job was only for 6 weeks. Please advise...

Hi. I'm not sure on this one. I would say that you'd go back on JSA, but of course that's a worry in itself, as by the time the forms are processed etc, how on earth would we survive. Next time you sign on, perhaps you could ask.

Hi nikita 007,

It always used to be that as long as you had not "signed off" for more than 12 weeks then you could just revive your claim but I am not 100% sure if this is still the case so it is best to check at the Job Centre, as Hazeleyes suggests. Temporary jobs were one of the reason that the current Child Tax Credit system was set up as it is so that at least that and your Child Benefit stay stable and it is just your bit stopping and starting Smile

Hi nikita007, have you asked at the job centre? What was their response? If you need further advice, you could also contact our Expert from the Citizens Advice Bureau.

Please let us know the outcome Smile

Hi nikita.

Your jsa will remain in archive for up to 3 months but speaking from experience and knowledge...(ex jsa processer) this sometimes mixes up your whole claim, If i was you i would think very carefully. Housing benefit runs on for 4 weeks and you also may be eligble for a back to work grant from £100=£250. if the job is going run on for more than 5 weeks. Hope this has helped....:) if the job is for more than 15 hours a week you will also be eligible for working tax credits which also has a run on of 4 weeks.
