Hello mitsy and welcome to One Space

I have moved your post to the Work and training section.

I can see your dilemma. Who has told you that they would call Social Services if you leave your son/daughter? That is ridiculous unless your child is very vulnerable/has special needs. How many hours are they talking about? If the job is 16 hours per week then are those hours mainly in school time and so it would "only"mean them letting themselves in after school? Does he/she have any friends? If so then talk to their parents about going back to theirs for a short while.

There are no hard and fast rules about when it is safe to leave a child alone...the main thing is that they should be safe. I myself left my child when they were 11 but I am not saying that is right for everyone, he was very sensible, knew what to do in an emergency and knew plenty of neighbours...also it was only for a couple of hours after school or an occasional day in the holidays.
