scallyally

Ive got two.

The first is when my son was about 4 and he gave me a hand made mothers day card, inside it read "I love my mam as she makes the best lasagne and has sparkling eyes" Ive still got it to this day and when he is being a pain I get it out and it doesnt half make me smile.

The second is when he was about 17, he came to the sitting room window with the biggest sunflower you have ever seen!! Clearly he found this on his way home.......lol.

What's yours?

Great topic! My daughter once made me...this is going to be hard to describe!!....a shoebox covered in silver foil, with pink xmas tree lights (from woolies) with fluffy bits stuck round the outside with sellotape and inside a blue plasticine man! She was quite young and I can't remember whether it was mothers day or my birthday, but it was so sweet and terribly clever (!!) and I still have that at the back of my bottom drawer!

I'm very blessed in that we've had so much fun over the years.  I've had some fabulous home made cards and I have a huge one that my daughter made for me back in 2006 that is up on my wall.

Presents for me hasn't been their priority (sadly!).

After and incredibly busy time though, they've felt so sorry for me that they've sent me to bed, allowing me to use the laptop for a while, and made me chicken soup (well, opened a can) and served this with hot, part baked rolls.

Yum.

At the moment, the only thing that springs to mind is the gift of laughter and madness.

The gift of laughter is the best thing Smile C has made lovely cards for me, Mothers Day, Birthdays, Christmas. For birthday last year, he thought very carefully about my present, and I received a hot water bottle. I was delighted, as I can't bear being without one for long.

I should mention the Take That CD (The Circus - last year?) which has been played continuously practically, only to be replaced the the more recent Take That CD that they got me at Christmas... Smile

The first smile, proper smile, as in see, recognise and smile. First cuddle when they put their arms round you and squeeze you all on their own without you instigating it.

I remember them both. : )

And later, older, when they write me little messages (badly spelt) saying they love me, like... 'daddy I love you, can I have... (insert something) and daddy I love you'

Or maybe that's just mine.

The scamers!

They havent got round to cooking and stuff yet, not on their own anyway, but soon maybe they will make me their first coffee, or bring me a sandwich or something.

Or clean their own rooms, or take their own clothes off the floor and put them in the washing basket, or better still put them in the washing machine, turn it on, take then out when they're done, put them to dry and then take them back to their bedrooms.

My son knitted me a two meter long scarff on my sisters knitting machine when he was about four, she helped mind. I've still got it, absolutly no warmth value what so ever as its about two inches wide, but still I look at it and think ahhhhh!

Ahh it won't be long till those laundry moments happen. When my eldest is in residence (maybe we should fly a special flag from the roof?) then he takes over the family ironing, he is the best at it as he worked in a men's posh outfitters for ntwo years and used to have to do the displays.

Dear all,

....one of the best presents for me was this note from my 7 year old. It said something like this "...i am so sorry for how things are at the moment...wish i can mack it up to you...i 've given you a bit of money....love from...."    - and in the envelope was an incredibly 'valuable'  20pence piece.....I will treasure it for always and smile every time I see that 20pence  laugh

And on Mother's Day just gone; I was ordered to stay in bed (I had to pretend to read rather than trying to figure out what was happening downstairs in the kitchen...). My 11 year old had gone and made PURPLE pancakes and brought them upstairs !!  Imagine how cool I was when the fire alarm started ringing ....Yeah, I was too. (Had to...was sitting on the loo! Couldn't really do anything else but stay cool...) Lucky she sang up the stairs and said " ...don't worry everything is fine...!"  smiley

Bless them. If only us grown-ups remember, that the best don't cost any money !

...for someone her age, they weren't bad at all ! I know lots of children out there who has never even identified where the hob is  lol...but I guess we do do a lot more for the kids these days than they ever had done for them...but yeah, need to move on from those pancakes to something a bit more mainstream...  :)
