About 7 years ago, after my divorce, I suffered from low self esteem and confidence as I had allowed the negative words of one individual to drag me down and take the smile of my face and for a while I could not look at myself in the mirror. It was a very sad period for me, as also about the same time I had so many debts, my house was going to be repossed and I had two children to look after.

When I went out on my daily routine, to the world I looked ok, but when I went back home behind closed doors, when the children were sleep I would just cry, become depressed  and wonder why me?

I did get a lot of support from various organisations, family and friends. I then decided to re train as a life coach, and this helped me to build my confidence and self esteem. I also used my new skills to help others. I set up a support grope at my house for lone parents and a holiday project for the children – this now receives funding from various organisations.

Last year, the children crowned me Confident Queen, and I came up with the idea of setting a business with that name. I am now so excited as a few weeks ago my business has been selected as one of the Top 100 businesses to go forward the next stage of the Barclays bank Trading Places award. The Awards recognise individuals with an inspiring story to tell and whose grit and determination has turned tragedy into triumph.

I share this to encourage you all that even though at times raising children on our own can be challenging, we have to keep going and not give up. Their will be some sad moments, but these will soon pass away and good times will come.   Sometimes we have to acknowledge that we can’t do it all and ask for help. My favourite quote “ On my own I may feel I can’t but with the help of others WE CAN.

Life is what you make it, so try and focus on the good!
