Sorry to mention it but....christmas isnt far off Surprised

Its about this time I have to start preparing otherwise I cant afford a good xmas nut my problem is what to get angel. She is giving no clues whatsoever and unlike any other year she isnt really in to anything so am a bit stuck!

She loves reading so books are on the menu and her bday is in feb and already decided to get her a bike for her bday but xmas this year is harder than ever! Her only craze is Bin Weevils trading cards but they only 75p a pack and hardly gonna fill the xmas tree lol I been trying to suss her out for days but she giving nothing away. She still believes in santa and has wrote him a letter with her wish list - but I cant find it! grrr! I think she deliberately hid it as she is 'testing' her belief in santa lol

Anyone know what 8 year old girls are in to at the moment? Apparantley baby dolls are too 'babyish' for her now lol

Haven't got a little girl but I think the wish list is a must. Could you get your mum to have a sneaky word with her and ask what was on it? or you could even have had a phone call from Santa saying he had had some trouble with his postman and he wants all children to write to him again to make sure he has got everyone's letters?

It's great that you are thinking of it now though, and defintiely in terms of budget!

Thank you!!!!!! Please, can everyone keep panicking about Christmas!!! Normally I refuse to even think about Christmas before my birthday (late November), but this year is different. By Christmas chemo will be done!!! (my birthday will be a non-event, I'll have chemo the day before and will be in Zombieland)

So please keep this thread going!

My daughter loved beads when she was 8, and crafty stuff. Don't know if that helps! x

Aw Hopeful glad to hear it will soon be done. Hopefully you have a great xmas and an excellent bday next year x

I just know angel is playing games with me. At this time of year we do a clear out of her old toys to make way for the new xmas ones but she has packed up practically EVERY toy saying they all too babyish. I know she wants a kindle but am still unsure as she only 8 and dont know if she will look after properly. She like drawing and writing stories and those things will be easy to get but I will have to ask her friends whats 'cool' with the kids nowadays lol

I get a sneaky suspicion she wants me to tell her I am the one who buys all her gifts not santa so she is playing me lol I just wanted one more year of santa before she is a big girl lol

Yayyyyy Christmas is just around the corner, my fav time of year & spending it with the whole family this year....grandparents, aunties, uncles, cousins, cousins kids and my sister & niece :)... Luckily Its going to be at my aunties house so don't have to cook hehe

My daughter has just turned 1 so I have no idea what to buy her as she can't tell me, she's too old & smart for baby toys but not big enough for older toys .....any suggestions would be great :)

Something she can walk along pushing, Tinkerbell2, like a little pram or truck with bricks? as she will be finding her feet before long. Or a little bike (just the sort where you push your feet along the floor, not pedals)

A has been walking since 10 months old so already well and truly found her feet :)

The bike is a very good idea , would be gret if I can find one with a little basket at front/back for her fav dolly to sit in :)

Hopeful, December is really just around the corner, so it'll soon be here for you.

Littleangel, does your daughter like Hello Kitty? All the girls at school seem to carry the lunch boxes with it on, and C's friend is mad on it. Is she in to board games at all? When C was 8, I got him wordsearch, and he absolutely still loves it. A make up set maybe? Girls love having their nails done don't they. Will keep thinking, and try and put more ideas on here. Might even get some feed back from the girls at school.

C's quite easy when it comes to pressies. It'll be more of Harry Potter, but I also vary the stuff, (for my sake really, hehe)

Hi littleangel, Sally's daughter is about 8 I think, so when she is online on Friday I will give her a nudge in this direction!

My daughter used to love those big arty sets of crayons and felt tips. What about things for her bedroom? A bean bag or big cushions? Fairy lights with fluff on them! Smile

Tinkerbell2 - what does your daughter like doing? A bike sounds great, especially with a seat for her dolly! Although I htink we have joked about this before - at one years old, they are just as happy with a large box than all the other stuff we go out and buy!

Hazel eyes Hello kitty is a good option she has a lot of stuff already but may look at what else is out there. I asked her today if she would like a new desk in her bedroom from santa and she said 'but mummy thats furniture santa only brings toys you need to get the desk' the cheek!

Anna her room is currently undergoing a redecoration as pink is so definately out now lol so I have bought most of the things for her room already, lamps, bed spreads etc (just waiting for boyf to get the stripper and paint out but could be a while... one thing I DONT do is decorating)

Hopefully Sally can add some ideas, I am still considering a kindle for her but not so sure, a lot of her friends have them though.

At least you know what 'you' can get her for Christmas though...the desk!

C'mon Sally, what bright ideas do you have?

What to buy my 8 year old to be honest i have not really thought about it yet, well i personally would not go down the kindle route, i kind of still like reading her stories from books.  It would depend on what they are into, L is into sylvainian families, build a bear stuff, likes art and crafts stuff (anything with glitter (glitter glue is .ok) is band after an incident and one sparkling bedroom carpet and everyone always covered in pink glitter).

L is no longer into the dolls either, but i don't really want her growing up to quickly either, so have tried to stay away from technology where i can, as for make up she gets lipgloss and hair bands/clips, she does like the girly stuff in accessorise and got a bag from their with money she got for her birthday.

What did you get when you were 8? i remember getting roller skates the ones with the chunky wheels they were all the rage back then.  What about a scooter? L rides hers to school.

Will let you know if i come up with anything else when i have given it some thought!

The only thing my daughter wanted when she was 8 was anything to do with dinosaurs... She still loves anything to do with dinosaurs and she's now 18

Sally, Glitter is banned in my house too as is Beadz as I have stood on one too many of them now and drawn the line.

Well funny enough I have played angel at her own game because its her friends bday next week and I took her to Toys R Us to look for a preesie for her 'friend' but made her walk down every aisle so we can make sure we choose the right gift. I managed to catch her being drawn to quite a few of them scary doll barbie type things (not sure what they called) she also spent longer than she needed to looking at some of the Fur Real toys - mission accomplished  Smile

Fantastic littleangel, had a little chuckle over the making her go up and down all the aisles and your ploy worked Smile

Know what you mean about the beadz, i have had to ban a few things over the years for health and safety reasons, not just theirs but mine as well, even though they don't have many things with small parts anymore, i still have to do a cleansweep of my bed before i get in, just incase!
