hi i am currently on statotory maternity pay and have informed the tax credits and they have reduced my payments by 100 pounds a week i cant financially cope on what im gettin from smp and tax credits does any one know why it has gone down such an amount when my income has also gone down , what are thy playin at im a single paent with 3 children Cry my child tax credits have gone down to 80 pounds a week i would get more child tx credits if i was on income support

Hi caza i would suggest calling them and checking they have the correct information, there may have been some sort of error, you could contact our Money Expert (click) if they are still saying that there decision is correct, hopefully they will have some information that will help.

Have just had a thought how long have you been receiving maternity pay and when did you notify tax credits as this could be something they have an issue with, and would imagine they would have told you if they consider you had had an over payment.

Hope it all works out for you caza keep us posted on how you get on.

m a single parent to a 15 year old son ive rencently started my job where i was working 18 hours a week but then i upped my hours to 30 as my now ex boyfriend was going to move in with me im now nearly paying full rent an c/tax on top off all my other out goings and my ex partner whos my sons dad is refusing to help out i feel lost an not sure what to do as i didnt imform tax credits off upping my hours to 30 as it was only last month this happened.. my expartner my sons dad just playes head games with me all the time i get so low just trying all the time

Hi andrea sorry to hear you are struggling right now. You have a few months to notify Tax credits of any changes, but you should notify them as soon as you can. 

You could visit your local Citizens Advice Centre, they can check you are getting all the benefits that you are entitled to and can help you look at your outgoings to see if there are areas you can get help with or where you can make some cut backs.
