Hi,

I have just come out of family court where the father has been granted reduced time with his children because that is all he can manage.

My problem is I have been summoned for jury service and I have no family support or real child care that could help cover this. I can't use normal child care due to child disablity and extra care needed.

I've sent my why I am not a good person to do jury service for the foresable future but scared that the courts won't see this as a ligitmate reason and force me to do it. Has anyone got advice on how if I have to attend how I look after my children?

(This is my second call for jury service, I did the first one, I was child free then)

Thanks

Hi suneagle,

I think your allowed to defer jury service once, if you have explained that you have a child with disabilities and difficulties with childcare they should accept that.

You could always post a message to our Legal Expert and ask his advice.

Depending on the nature of your child's disability it would be worth seeing if you could apply for a longer-term exemption at the same time, this would involve a medical letter comfirming your child's care needs for example.

If it comes back that you have to do it, I would get in touch with your local Social Services and ask for your child to be given help, and maybe even your local Barnardos could assist with some care. As a general note, it is really important for all single parents to work hard to surround themselves with a small support network of friends/community involvement so that there is some support for you when needed. It's a bit like having car breakdown insurance Wink

Let us know how you get on.

Hi sun eagle I would be very surprised if having explained your child as being disabled and fact you have no child care and your child cannot go into normal childCare. I think Louise is right about contacting social services, do you mind me asking how old your child is
