Hi JesseFrank

Fisrtly, welcome!

Secondly, well done on your academic success, especially with three children to look after and the dyslexia/dyspraxia to cope with.

Now then, money. I am presuming you had a student loan and grant in Year One. Sadly you seem to get your final third of the loan in April/May time and that is it until September. I presume you will continue to receive Child Tax Credit, Council Tax Benefit and Housing Benefit if you are renting. I do not know what the situation is with Income Support....and if as a lone parent with a very young child you are treated differently from other students

Please do consult our specialist 1-2-1 Money Advice Service about this situation, just to see if there is anything else you can do (click on the link)

Hi JessFrank,

Just to let you know I' m a student too and I was able to claim job seekers allowance, I also got my last student loan in April as a single parent. Mind you it took them a month to come up with any money for me, in between that I had to make do with crisis loans. Something worth knowing Jess. Good luck with the studies, some people at my uni have four children and they've flying high all drugged up on proplus and coffee, isnt it amazing what you have to go through when you have a family.

Hi JESSEFRANK, I am wondering how you got on.

craigc, that's great to hear that you were able to claim job seekers allowance even though you were studying.

Were you expected to keep seeking work? Were you a full time student?

What are you studying? When do you finish?

Hi,

I am in my second year at uni studying adult nursing - I think the key to getting 'official' money is children....

Here's a list of what I get, although my moneys probably work different from yours:

Child Benefit, Tax Credits, Housing Benefit, Child Maintenance (as and when the CSA can get their hands on some), and a Bursary (probably like your grant) including a Dependants' Allowance.

So far, I'm doing ok with it Smile

Well done to you for doing all this!!!
