Paperbirds

Hello

My name is Jemma Mc Donnell and I’m really hoping you might be able to help me today!

I am seeking opportunities to interview some single parents who are struggling to make ends meet or suffering from poverty. We want to share with an audience the extent to which poverty and child poverty is a reality here in the UK and by sharing real stories we want to tackle the mis-understing around the issue that the general public have ( usually reinforced by the media).

I run a theatre company called The Paper Birds. The Paper Birds make theatre in and with communities about issues we feel are urgent, we also prioritise the stories of women - In the past we have made shows about sex trafficking, binge drinking and ageing and we have won and been shortlisted for a number of awards including an Amnesty International ‘freedom of expression’ award for our work. The company is making a new show called ‘Broke’. The show is about debt and poverty in the UK and is supported by Arts Council England, West Yorkshire playhouse and Greenwich Theatre London and this is the show we would be interviewing you for.

The Paper Birds have been running for over 11 years and we have a great deal of experience in meeting / interviewing people for shows.  If you want to know any more about myself, the company or the show then just drop me a line.

We will not use the names of anyone we interview.

If you would be interested or happy to meet me then please email me so we can set a meeting at a time and location that best suits you ( I am based in London so London residents would be preferable)

Please contact jemma@thepaperbirds.com

Deadline for interest 7th June.

All the best,
