Hi there

We work for a single parent organisation and we often get phone calls from parents looking for single parent support groups in their area, unfortunately we no longer have the funding to keep up-to-date information on whats on around the country anymore.

So we want you to use this online group to find out and share what is on in your local area. Do you know of anything?

I am a single parent and run a single parent organisation based in Brighton East Sussex. Single parents living in Brighton & Hove and surrounds will benefit the most if they join SPIN as much of the information relates to our local area. However we do have members across Sussex (Chichester Bognor Worthing to the West and Hastings, Peacehaven, Lewes etc to the East) and they also appreciate being able to keep up to date with information about funding, national events, changes in legislation etc

I send out regular information about all sorts of useful things for single parents and their children especially opportunities, events, social activities, sport and funding possibilities too. Members can communicate with each other and arrange to meet at some of these events so there is a social element. From time to time we do things like picnics, camping, nights out etc but this is money and volunteer dependent. we have two days in an office allowing drop in for members to meet other members and also use our pc/internet for free.

Hello all

Just a little tip: it is worth finding your local Council for Voluntary Services. Look at http://webdb.navca.org.uk/home.aspx, find your local office and give them a ring. They should have information for support-type groups in your area. It is also worth looking at http://www.spiceuk.com/, which organises activities throughout the Uk, they are a bit sporty for me :geek: but I know friends who enjoy these events. Also have a look at your local press for events; I guess one thing to look out for is if they are actually dating agencies by another name  although that is fine if it is what you want.

Hi mamamaxi

Sorry I have not responded to you, I am in the processing of researching your request. I can't find anyhting on the internet, but we do have some contacts in Bath, I will speak to them next week and see what I can find out.

A few years ago there was quite a lot of government funding for single parents and there were quite a few groups dotted around the country, but unfortunately this is not the case anymore.

I will get back to you shortly. :)

Hi mammaxi

I have had a root around

http://beehive.thisisbath.com/default.asp?WCI=SiteHome&ID=5115

or you could try Bath and North East Somerset Children's Services
PO Box 3343
Bath

Public phone: 01225 396289
Fax: 01225 396115

Let us know if either of these give you a single parent group then we could advertise it here and hopefully you could meet up with other One Space users in your area.

How about this? in Ealing. There is even a special lone parents group.

There is also a Christian group called Cheer, in Harrow for single parents, I don't know if you want details of this, it appears to be very tightly tied to the church and depends on your beliefs....
