Hi Onespace,

I'm from the Independent newspaper. We're doing a story today on new research showing children with a lone parent are just as happy as those living with two biological parents.

I was looking to have a very quick chat with a single parent and child to hear just how positive the experience can be, and what the keys are to being a good single parent.

If someone can get in touch asap I would really appreciate it. My number is 0203 615 2431.

Thanks, look forward to hearing from you,

Justin Cash

Hi jcash

A shame I didn't see this earlier as our Centre is teeming with single parent families!

I actually think its quite funny that there has actually been research done showing that children raised with a lone parent are just as happy as those living with two biological parents!! Why would anyone think otherwise?

Children are children and as long as they have love, food, shelter and family irrespective of how large the family is, and as long as they are not living in fear, abject poverty, hunger or squalor there is no reason for them not to be happy.

On the point about the key to being a good single parent.....

There is no difference between a good parent and a good single parent. You just continue to be the best parent you can be, as every parent endeavours to be, you just may face more challenges as you are doing it alone and carrying double the load.

Anyone else got any comments for Justin?

Mummy Coventry

I was raised in a single parent family and am also a businesswoman and single mother of 2 myself.  I happily share my story and my son who is 9 is very articulate and would happily give you his insight too.  My daughter would probably join in however she only 4 (going on 14!)

Let me know if I can help.

Jeano

I belonged to a SP group in Sheffield which was great at fundraising and finding free/low cost holidays and activities.  The friend of one of our mums told us that her son had asked her to leave his dad so that they could join the group and go on our holidays and days out. Oneupmanship rules!
