Hi, I'm not local to you but, when I first moved to where I am now I did all my shopping in local shops and I used all the local cafes for little treats for my kids, like once a week we go and have breakfast or dinner or something in one of the small cafes and slowly I've got to know people, I get invited to parties and stuff or round for a coffee. One group arrange a lunch in a nearby town sometimes during school time at a Japanese restaurant. I've met lots of people from hanging round outside the school, at drop off and pick up that is, not just hanging around outside them that sort of thing gets you arrested I'm sure, particularly as I'm a bloke.

I've been here nearly three years now and when ever we go out lots of people stop to chat or just say hello from across the street, in fact there are certain people that I think Oh no here we go twenty minute and I'm in a rush too. Old people are the worst (I mean it nicely) as they seem to loose all self control when they see small children and start fawning almost drooling all over them.

Seeing you've only been there for six months, give it some time, it took me around a year before friendly smiles and nods or acknowledgement turned to chats and friendships.
