Hi all

The Department of Work and Pensions has produced "A straightforward guide to sanctions" for jobseekers.  The DWP have a new communications team and have asked a group of charities including us here at One Space for their feedback on the guide.

So please give it a read and share your comments below, we look forward to reading your thoughts.

Thank you Smile

Generally I did understand what it is saying about the sanctions.

What confused me - probably if I was facing it, I would sit down and read it more carfully, is the time limits with the sanctions.

It all sounds terrifying to me, especially if you do have priority of children, or road traffic queues that you're sitting in, watching time passing by.

I agree, I found the time limits confusing too and I also agree that it is pretty scary reading. From experience, people that I work with that have been sanctioned tend to have valid reasons, ie their child not being well or other caring duties and they have punctually contacted their advisor, but the message has not always been received.

I think that the majority of us that have relied on benefits whilst raising children on our own are really conscientous and try really hard to keep on top of all the demands that the Job Centre and benefits office place on us and we often live in fear of 'doing something wrong' to lose our benefit.

And the length of time they can sanction you is shocking!

Absolutely, we have already seen how the sanctions or fear of them are affecting parents mental health, like we aren't doing a difficult enough job as it is.
