Some people seem to live in a world so far detached from mine, bizarre.

Surely this article is meant to be a joke? Surprised At least I hope so......

I can see where she's coming from.

In a way, I'm better off as I am now, as I had to hand over my wages to The Git (who couldn't manage on his £2000 a month).

On Anglesey, two very well paying employers (and a lot more besides) have closed.  People who were earning fantastic salaries find themselves stacking shelves (I know them).  The shock in the difference in salary must be difficult to cope with.

One comment someone has made says it's a shame she raised her daughter to be so materialistic.  Certainly no true meaning of Christmas if the focus has been on Santa...

On one hand, yes it is a joke, but on the other, I can see where she's coming from.

My sister often says she struggles, yet her husband is well into six figure salary plus bonuses.  They live up to their income.

I like bubblegum's comment about a world "so far detached from mine"

My sister earns 30k plus and her husband also has a job, not as well payed as hers but still, and she often claimes poverty in that she says she has no money. Still she goes to Greace two or three times a year, they have to cars and a motorbike and live in a house with the mordgage payed off, not to mention she goes out for meals often, buys what she wants from Morgan which is this rather nice if not expencive clothes shop in Bangor, maybe you now it sparklinglime, I have to admit it does have nice stuff in it.

It's all relative isn't it.

Not that I'm knocking my sister or anything, she worked up to where she is by shear talent, starting off as a PA. Not to mention she is very generous towards me and more especially my kids.

So I'm not complaining.

Personally I've noted a steep rise in the cost of living over the last couple of years, say four. I used to be able to survive by just taking out a tenner each day, I really struggle to do that now and have to take out twenty two or three times a week, most weeks. My cheapest day is Sunday when we go to my sisters for Sunday dinner as I don't have to take out any money on that day.

I just posted the link as it made me imagine someone saying.. oh my god I just can't afford the champaign and caviare this Christmas.

I'm sure that to her her situation feels real, ether way.

Even if it does make me think what are you complaining about!

Over the many years I have worked with single parents, there have been people in various situations but the ones that seemed to find it hardest to cope were those who had been used to having plenty of money and their own home and suddenly there was a big change in their circumstances when they separated, so I totally understand that.

What made me not take it completely seriously was her mention of doing all her shopping in Harrods.

I can see that Louise, it takes time and practice to be able to budget a low income and learn what you can and can't spend money on. Young parents used to living with their parents or being single and free struggle in the beginning, my brother being a good example.. and I suppose it takes everyone a time of adjustment.

Moving from a comfortable middle class lifestyle to being a single parent at the mercy of the benefit system must be a bit of a jolt and not just the money, having to deal with all the prejudice about benefit scroungers must come as a bit of a shock to some.

The Harrods thing.. My sister sometimes makes jokes about not being able to shop in M&S as much as she used to : )

My sister has a three week holiday abroad, then a couple of weeks somewhere very posh in Britain.

The last time she came to Anglesey (2005) they spent the week in Tre-Ysgawen Hall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(very pawsh, as bubblegum will know).

As with your sister, bubblegum, she's worked hard.  She had to move down south to get promotion, and I often felt she regretted it though.
