Sorry Anna, wanted to make sure Bubblegum could see this, as I need some help with the PC, and I know he's good with computers. Not sure where else I could have posted. Hope it ok!!

I have lost the toolbars, (my fault for fiddling, one of my many annoying habits)!!! I have no favourite, no back space etc. All I have is Y! WEB SEARCH e.mail box weather sign ebay and two or three other symbols. All of that Bubblegum is across the screen. Not very good at explaining I'm afraid am I? Hehe. I know you're a genius on these things, so am hoping you can share your knowledge and please help me. Thankyou in advance. (I promise I won't fiddle again)

Take care

Alison

Hi alisoncam

I think this is a brilliant idea, as bubblegum seems to be very worldly when it comes to computers.  I have no idea how to answer your query other than trying right click on your mouse, but then that is usually my solution to everything!

I hope he comes online soon and resolves this!

Hi... (you have to imagine I said that in a realy cool and casual way)

I'm assuming you are using internet explorer 8

here is a picture.. select "menu bar"..

does that help?

P.S. the best way to learn is to fiddle with stuff

Hi Bubble, my internet explorer doesn't work at all. I have Windows xp, (do I sound like I know what I'm talking about)!!! I've been fiddling again for an hour or so now, I downloaded google toolbar, but still it doesn't give me my normal buttons. Your picture showed similar to what I have in the Y toolbar, but no menu button!!! I'm a simple girl who likes simple things, and having the back space button and the favourite thingy is what I get pleasure from, (because it's easy for me) haha. Thankyou for your help. Any advice what to try next? I tried to download the internet explorer toolbar only via the Mozilla Firefox, (please don't shout at me for this) hehe. Anyhow even that way won't let me do it.

My fingers are now tired of fiddling!

OK...

In Firefox : )

Hold down the right Alt key and while holding it down press V then T then N

that will get back the navigation bar..

Hold down the right Alt key and while holding it down press V then T then M

that will get back the menu bar..

If you watch while you are doing it you will see what is happening : )

Does that help? (it will do the same in internet explorer too.. )

then delete the google thing and the yahoo think.. they just slow it (your internet experience) all down : )

Also google is your friend... I just descovered all that by googling 'firefox get back toolbar'

:)

later.

You are brilliant Bubblegum, it is now up and running and I have my back space arrow, and on the top I once again have Bookmarks, File etc etc. I could jump up and down with pure joy if it wasn't for the fact I am shattered. Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou. My son is sitting beside me and says an extra Thankyou. You've made us both very happy :)

Simple things please simple minds, hehe.

Have a good evening. I'm off hopefully to the land of nod!

Take care

I'm going to write all this down for future reference.

You are brilliant bubblegum - and you are too Alison for being able to sort it.

I'm having problems doing the PAYE end of year returns due to errors, even though I've downloaded an update.  **Sigh**

I think I'll go back to Tesco.  I can cope with a till.

Sorry Sparkling, can't give you any help here! Isn't it strange how something so silly can please you no end when it is fixed? Thanks again Bubblegum.

After 8 hours of effort I have finally submitted the PAYE.

Shame I won't get paid for this effort. :-(

Well done Sparkling, you managed it in the end. Yes, it is a shame you won't get paid. Keep on doing the lottery I guess!!!

Another glorious day here. Shall take C.... to the park, (as promised). Think I'm back over the neighbours to help with some cutting down, (they can't do that anymore). Guessing a bit more work in my garden will have to wait for another day!!!

Am promising myself lie-ins next week, not had a single one so far, (always the way). C..... is still snuggled in bed, at least one of us is managing it!

Take care, enjoy the sunshine. I'm assuming it is gorgeous there too.

It is.   I'll get a child to wheel the lawn mower down from the garage this afternoon.  I'm hoping the weeds will eventually start to look like grass!!

Hey y'all ! I'm new to all this...ALL of this...Since separating 7 months ago (divorce to come I hope), I have had to muddle through everything. Felt a fool to have let him deal with all the IT issues when we were together. Now my learning curve is almost vertical lol...

But I am learning so much. I started out learning as much as I can from the internet, all there is to know about Macs and printers and Hard Drives and External Hard Drives and zzzzzzzzzz....yeah I know. As one who was so reliant on another to fix any thing like a gadget, I was diabollically ignorant. Not now..I'm willing to learn anythin' goin'.

The one thing that really helps is this motto :  ...it's only a machine; I'm a human so I gotta be cleverer than this computer... - we just gotta find someone with the answer. And with the internet on our finger tips, we have the know-how...that's where y'all come in ! The more of us there are, the more we can help each other..

Reading the previous posts, seems like Bubblegum is the Guru around here (yeah, that's the new computer-speak apparently)...  :) Hope Bubblegum still hangs out here then..

Anyway, here's my first discovery (more like something I learnt the hard way). When purchasing any computers/laptops, it's a good idea to read up on those reviews before you get your hands on one. Go play with the display models cos whatever the next person says, it's you who will be using it.  I opted for the HP Pavillion g6 11" priced at £349; went to the shop and hey presto! they were selling a 15" HP with much better specifications...I was laughing all the way home...

HOWEVER, do NOT forget the extras you will be paying out for eg Micros Office/Norton Antivirus/PowerPoint blah blah blah blah...these were an extra £80...which I hadn't thought off...so I'm learning... - FAST ! Wish the blurps had been more informing  :{

And no matter what your mates tell you  -  they are DEFINITELY not all the same...If you have the ££ though, I would personally go for Macs.. they are beautifully crafted; but they are expensive..although not the most expensive it must be said...I think personally we are comparing Fords with Ferraris...

Looking forward to hear from anyone who might have a tip or two to pass on.

Great post The Phoenix - I too used to let the idiot sort computer things out but when I tried to get him to show me what he was doing he used to make me feel like an imbecile - I remember doing a training course to become a trainer and being told that if the person you are training doesn't understand then its the trainer not the trainee that is the problem! How true!

Anyway, I digress, no need to buy anti virus protection - see here

Aaaaahh wished I'd known....what percentage of their sales consist of 'women' like us who are ignorant ....?

Thanks; you ever heard this saying "Knowledge is Power"  ?  I must remember that more often. Great to hear from you littleredhen - stay posted  :)

Hi folks,

here's something that might be useful for anyone passing by. Printer was working fine one day; next day my Mac couldn't connect up to it. Seemed to have 'disappeared' from  ???? Anyway after an hour or two of headscratching, decided to turn the darn thing Off and then On again.........Voila ! It worked ! Miraculously appeared again ...so the age old trick of turning the machine (any machine that might be giving you grieve at the mo) off and on ;  worked again.

Neat little trick, that. Wondering if anyone might have others to share.
