Hello, I've been in touch with my MP concerning paying for the use of
the CSA. I've got a response from Maria Miller (MP) which looks as
though they are going ahead with plans to make parents pay to use this
service. It doesn't say whether the recipient or the payer will bear
these charges (or both).

Laura (SPAN), would it be useful for you to have a copy of
this letter? Or anyone else? Just let me know, I can scan it and
email or stick a copy in the post.

Dear J6767

It is great that you got in touch with your MP and that you got a response from Maria Miller.  It is right when MP's hear about concerns that people have about the changes they propose. The Government plan to change the system and replace the CSA, although it is my understanding that this is still up for consultation.  The charity Gingerbread are leading a campaign on this which we support.  One of the problems with the proposed new system is that it is the receipient who will be paying for the service, which is usually the woman.  Yes, it would be good if you could e-mail a copy of the letter (L.dewar@spanuk.org.uk).  With your permission I will forward to my policy contact at Gingerbread.

Hi Laura, an email should be with you now. Let me know if not, sometimes they end up as SPAM. Please do forward it to whom ever you feel appropriate.

The govt need to realise most people only contact the CSA out of sheer desperation. My ex cut us off last summer for 3 months and my only choice was to get them involved. We did have an informal agreement in the past, but he had a history of paying late when he felt like it. I know many others face the same situation and worse.

More prejudice against single mothers from the Govt. They forget we're voters too!!

Thanks Laura, anything I can do let me know
