Hi

Just been to see my friend who still isnt well and thought of when we were little and out parents used to feed us weird and wonderful things to make us better.

I remember being fed boiled onions, covered in butter and salt and pepper, they do say that onions are good for fighting infections so I am now boiling some for my friend.

Has anyone else got any foods that they find help when feeling poorly?

My Dad used to make a bowl of oranges and lemons when we had colds.

Am eating onions to ward off any of C's germs being passed to me. Fingers crossed that it works.

Yes, oranges are really good for vit c, not sure what lemons do but all cold/fever things do seem to have it in.

We also used to be fed tripe and onions, presonally I love it, but not many people do, the other one was pobbies, which was bread soaked in hot milk, yuk to that one.

Yuk to tripe and onions too, though I've never tested it, it sounds disgusting, hehe. Never heard of pobbies, but again, don't like the sound of it.

I am going to make myself a fried-onion ommlette to cheer me up Smile  With part baked bread rolls (baked fully by the time I eat them).

Pig-out, basically.  Might even open a can of cider.

I used to have to eat tripe every Friday when my Nanna came to tea, YEUCH.

My Mum used to boil an egg and chop it up in a cup to be eaten with a teaspoon when anyone was ill, lol

My mums boyfriend, now her husband used to eat tripe in front of me just to freak me out, it looks horrible enough for me not to want to try it.

I've heard the one about onions being good for a cold, I eat lots of them in what I cook, almost daily, and I rarely get colds, so maybe there is some truth in it : )
