Welcome to November, it's cold out there so draw up a chair and share what's been going on for you Smile

Good afternoon everyone!

PQ I have another friend who makes jewellery, and she has made me a few earrings. This friend buys silver from India and Thailand and sells it here. I have a few things from her collection as silver is the only thing I can have; I am allergic to other metals. Good that your friend will be here next weekend. it is infuriating that the girls' dad wants to keep everyone hanging on and yet on the other hand keeps checking up on you!

Hello Hopeful, you have been working hard, nice to get a lie-in,have you got some nice plans for the weekend?

Hi Hazeleyes, glad you have enjoyed half term, well done on the shopping preparations, hope you get to the firework display.

Spent some time witn youngest today and had a good chat, I had been saying to him the other week that it was time we did some things together, it's been great to actually do it.

Have a good night out, kiera. I guess you know that 12 year old boys can be very cheeky....that does not mean you have to put up with it though. It feels to me as if you are now noticing some of the fallout from all those months and months of things being stressful in your house. Tackling your boy's behaviour has a few stages. Stage one is STAY CALM when he is cheeky. Stage two is wait till he is not being cheeky and chat to him about you and him doing something on your own together, maybe going for a burger or playing a game, it will have to be when your mum can have your little girl and the coast is clear. Kiera it is very hard to spread yourself so thin I know...but looking at things from your son's point of view, your little girl demands so much attention, and your elder boy has to be cared for because of his fits and the 12 year old might be feeling left out so I believe the first step to making things better is to repair that.Gosh we parents have to be super-heroes sometimes, don't we? but it's easier to tackle it NOW and not wait till it gets worse, and he gets bigger, believe me Wink

Hope everyone is having a good evening. My TV is playing up (disaster!!) so I am going to have to get the repair man out, boo.

It is absolutely hammering it down here, adn blowing a gale.

I can't find when the firework display at our rugby club is.  Last year it was on the 5th, so hopefully the same this year.

I hope you sort the tv out Louise. I'm glad you've had a nice time with your youngest.  Enjoy oldest being home too.

I booked the Tv repair man but then they texted me (Virgin) to say there is a fault in the area so they would not come out as they are trying to mend it centrally, I still have freeview so can't really complain.

Your weather sounds horrid, sparkling. Does the local paper have a what's on, on the website?

Nice to get some peace and quiet, hazeleyes, yes hope for dry weather for you this evening.

Hi everyone,

Here it is so cold and the wind is blowing so hard.  Brought my 13 year old for a sleep over at his friends, he is so happy about that. He has always been such a compassionate and understanding lad but lately so moody and angry so quickly I hardly recognise him. He wants to be with his friends all the time and I feel like a taxi driver, driving him to where ever, when ever. So tonight it is just my 10 year old and me which is great because we will have some "we time".

Hello Skyflower, great to see you posting here, hope you become a regular visitor to the Chat section. It sounds fab that you had that one to one time with your 10 year old, I think they all need it. As for your older boy, it's true they do seem to change personality as they hit the teen years. A book I found really helpful, in fact it changed my whole perspective about teens, is here (click to see) I do recommend it! What are you up to today?

Morning one and all, hope your night was not too stormy, it was very windy here. Youngest worked at the nightclub as usual and I put an airer in his room and suggested he should hang his clothes on there when he got in otherwise they would end up really smelling if he left them in a wet ball on the floor, it remains to be seen whether he has done so, I need to sniff next time I go past his room haha.

Had nice time with eldest last night, he seems very happy with the new girlfriend and they are planning a mini break, eeek! Doing roast dinner later.

What is everyone up to today? Is it back to school tomorrow?

Thanks Louise !! It looks like a really helpful book, I have ordered it and reading the reviews I already feel better :). Today looks beautiful and we will go to the park this morning with our puppy, then pick up the eldest. Luckily all homework has been done so it can be a chill out day.

I have taken on another skill and have done the practical course and e-course for phlebotomist and the end of this week  and next week I am doing live blood sessions at a hospital. Will revisit the theory before going.

Am a bit nervous about it now to be honest....

Morning all,

Have been feeling a bit down over the weekend. The reality of my friends death hit me like a sledge hammer, I was having a 'what is life all about?' moment. Think I've worked it through now and feeling more like my old self, although I think I have cold starting...boo!!

My friend from spain is coming over at the end of the week so I am desparately trying to find someone to have my girls so I can spend some time with him. Have asked their dad, but don't suppose for a minute he will do it!! Fingers crossed one of my friends will help out.

Hi Skyflower, I found the book louise recommends very usefull. I have a 12 year old who became very difficult last year when she started senior school. We still have our moments but the skills I learned from the book have been invaluable, I keep it next to my bed and re-read bits when I need an extra boost of confidence!

Its raining here, which is a pain when I'm at work. My office is in a separate building to the main hospital so I always get wet when I have to go any where!!

Hope you all have a good day and manage to stay dry....ish!

Hi Kiera, yes its the guy I've been seeing. Because of the distance I've only seen him 5 times since April. I wouldn't really call it a relationship at the moment. All I know is we enjoy each others company when we do see each other. If it gets to a point where we want to be permanent in each others lives we'll have to decide what to do. How about you? Anyone new in your life?

Hi PQ, keira, Skyflower and everyone else.

Well the rain dried up here a while ago so i have managed to get about without getting soggy.  Enjoyed coffee with friend who has been a little down recently and is now starting to feel in a better place, which is good. Meetings went well too.

PQ, sorry to hear you went through a tough weekend, i suppose you'll be on the honey, lemon and ginger fighting of that cold!! Hope you can sort something for the weekend.

keira, how long have you been chatting with this new fella? i take it you have not actually meet him yet!!

Christmas, well done getting through that book, my youngest 9 years is getting excited about christmas too, she wanted to put the tree and trimmings up the other day Smile

Hope you have had a good day off Louise?  How are you doing sparkling, have they still got you doing additional work?

Have a good evening everyone. Anyone going to a Firwork Display?

Morning, how is everyone today? how did the start of the new half term go?

PQ I am sorry to hear about you feelings after your friend died. Sometimes, a contemporary dying means we start thinking about our own lifespan or indeed what is the meaning of life etc? It can help if you have a religious faith but whether you do or don't, it can  be helpful to think of the Circle of Life (sorry but it's The Lion King) and the fact that the universe is bigger than we can comprehend, and so we need to make the best of our share of it and our life, however long that may or may not be. That's a lot to get our heads round, I know, but hope that helps (a bit) Sure you are excited about your friend coming over and hopefully someone can help out with the childcare!

Sally, I am sure your friend was glad of your support. Have you got a busy few days ahead?

Chris, your puppy sounds a handful but great fun. Did you go to the bonfire? That was scary about having ashes on your car last year, it wasn't too windy last night so hopefully it was ok. Bet you are excited about the new house, you should be in for this Christmas? Glad you are finding the book helpful, it is such a shock when they suddenly change personality. Have you seen the Harry Enfield sketch? Click here to see it. You may even (judging carefully) decide to share it with your son. My youngest once said to me "but Muuuuum, I am a teenager, it is my job to behave badly and go off the rails" and I went up to him, looked him in the eye (upwards, HA!) and said "Yes and I am your parent, and it is my job to keep you safe and to help you grow up into an ok adult and to just let you go bit by bit but always to keep you safe"

Sparkling, hurrah your colleague is back, I know she is the main reason that your days at work are more tolerable

Kiera it is enjoyable to flirt and chat but I am sure you are remembering that online a person can portray themselves as they wish (not always true) and you have to think of peoples' motivations, is this chap looking to move to the Uk and maybe a "ready-made" situation? do be careful.

I went to a bonfire last night in a local village, it was great although the Fire Brigade seemed to make a VERY big deal of their inspections before the fire. One of the firework combos did not go off properly so later had to be "burned out". All the children were really excited and going mad with sparklers. Ny friend and I had fish and chips and a glass of wine at the local pub before the fireworks so that kept us nice and warm! Today I am braving the supermarket (have tried to write my list in the order of going round; I get very impatient with the hordes of OAPs blocking the aisles). Later I am going to the cinema to see "Philomena" with Judi Dench Laughing

Have a good day, everyone

I've got various Scout things going on now until Monday evening.  We have the Remembrance Parade to sort out, and then a Safeguarding course on Monday evening which is up the coast.

A friend is calling to see me this afternoon.  It's been a while since I've seen her - she let us have one of her holiday homes for a couple of months when we were waiting for the keys for this place.

Not been a pleasant place here this morning as things that should have been done yesterday haven't been done.  No one is very happy.  Cool  Youngest won't be happy later either as his friend has been waiting in the living room to go to school - and youngest isn't here!!

Good morning everyone Laughing

The film was great, I really recommend it, quite a girly film though. There were loads of OAPs in the cinema. First two of the staff had to come and scrabble around on the floor as one of the old ladies had dropped her phone (in the dark) then there was this chap who wouldn 't let anyone sit in the two seats next to him and he was saying really loudly and self-importantly"I am saving these" This happened several times then this woman came in to get him and he rushed out, saying "change of plan" He had been sitting in the wrong screen HAHA!

Sparkling, lots of Scouty things to keep you occupied, nice to see your friend, has he been working hard at the shop or do you think all the things going on in his life have got on top of him a bit? Good that your boy got his fireworks!

Sally what songs will you be singing, are they traditional carols or different ones?

What's everyone up to today? it's my Book Club tonight, my neighbour has given me a book that is a parody of 50 shades of Grey, it is called 50 Damper Sheds and is full of lines like "I asked her to come dressed as Miss Whiplash and she turned up in a neckbrace and accompanied by her solicitor" Cool

Hello everyone and hope you will have a good day.

PQ I have to say that Gogglebox is one of my favourite programmes, I watch it twice because there are so many things easily missed first time round. Who are your favourites? I think mine are June and Leon, the retired teachers, her face is a picture when he comes out with all the remarks. Did you see it the other week when people were watching the Roy/Hayley story on Corrie? Every single family dsicussed that situation as if it was happening to themselves, I found it very moving.

Have the girls settled back home ok, PQ and when is your friend coming over?

Sally it is sad when teen boys' voices are all over the place. I remember when it happened to my eldest, everyone thought he was an adult woman on the phone in the interim stages, and that was dreadful for him. How was your chilli?

Sparkling, it is ok to care about your friend you know, we give you permission Wink Yes that book is hilarious, my neighbour bought it through one of those things where an agent leaves samples at say a place of work or a local hairdressers and you can order them and they are delivered a couple of weeks later, there are usually books and gifts. Did you get your hair cut?

Youngest is having his trial shift for the security post on Monday. At least the early shift is starting at 7am rather than 5am. There is a 6.30 bus from the end of our road on weekdays as well. I am going to visit a lady today who is practically housebound with ME. Son and I are planning a takeaway tonight, we try different things from the same place and he has been eyeing up Japanese Udon noodles this time, which are really thick like spaghetti...rather him than me.
