Hi , my names T and i am a single Dad.Didn't really expect to be one at my age,73.But here I am and will do my best.Have a 15 year old daughter who leads me a merry dance.A 23 year old son lives with us too in the family Home.My wife is from Papua New Guinea and thirty years younger than me. I had to divorce her after she tried to beat me and my daughter up.She had been abusive for years getting worse and worse. My son and daughter begged me to divorce her for the family's sake. Finally after her fourth attempt at suicide the Police advised her to leave and live elsewhere.Life has improved dramatically and we are a great family now.But the financial settlement looms next week and I am afraid of losing the home. That's what she wants.I owned the home before we married. She has sent about £18,000 over ten years back to her country. I feel like the stupid old man she told me I was ! I would like to have used her behaviour against her in the finances but am told it's irrelevant ?Don't understand why ? I am self repping in Court as well.Just found this site and liked what i found.

Hello kenitasaro and welcome along!

Glad you liked the site, we are a friendly lot and try to help each other along.

I am so glad that you are no longer in this abusive relationship, and would encourage you to look at The Freedom Programme (click) which is designed to help people recovering from abuse.

I understand that you are apprehensive about the financial settlement. Let me reassure you that the main concern of a court is the home of any children and as you have your daughter living with you then this will be the strongest factor. You are representing yourself but we do have a free service where you can ask our legal expert a question, and if you would like to do this, click here

You were saying your daughter keeps you on your toes, feel free to chat about this too as we are all parents together here Laughing

im self repping too

sorry to hear what you have been through

show evidence of your contributions towards the house/fanances and her lack of it, show that the kids and you need the home more than she does, show her unreasonalbe behaviour - it all adds up, if youre self repping just speak your mind when you comeup in front of the judge- thats what ive done and am planning to do again! good luck
