Hi,

Im new to this site and feel ready after 5 long years being seperated from an abusive husband that I can start to feel my daughters and I are finally moving forward. It was the section Tactics of an abuser that struck a chord with me as I could recognise him in every section of this article.

Feels stange looking back because myself and my two besutiful daughters have come so far over the last 5 years and have never regretted or looked back since we left an abusive father and husband and a miserable marriage.

Its frightening how many others have such sorrowful stories but rejoice that we are all strong women who can change our ,lives and that of our children for the better and dont have to put up with abuse anymore.

I am a totally new and stronger person and feel a complete woman again. I have started again from nothing and have requalified in a totally new career and now self employed supporting my wee family.

Something has to be done to raise awareness of abuse and not make it taboo to talk about and share our stories. Women are truly the superior humans and a mother is superhuman when it comes to protecting and providing for her children.

Look forward to hearing about your own success stories and looking forward to finally getting my divorce after 5 long years of legal battles over finance, child access, maintenance and legal battles. However I am the winner in the end as I got myself and my girls away from him & have a much happier and fulfilled life now. xx

Hi sandy66 and welcome to One Space Smile

It is so good to hear how you have over come domestic abuse and have been able to move on in such a positive way, and that you and your children are now so much happier in your new life.

There is quite a bit being done on a local level through various domestic abuse agencies to raise awareness of domestic abuse, have you ever thought about getting involved in an agency to help with raising awareness?

How old are your daughters?

Hi, Thank you for your lovely welcome message. My daughters are 11 & 8 years old and yes I do get involved with a womens aid support group by offering my complementary relaxation therapies to the ladies at the meetings to make them feel special again and worthy of a pamper treatment so as to boost their confidence and give them positive touch.

Yes definately have turned my life around and I am so much stronger now as running my own Complementary & Beauty therapy business now. Cool

Hello sandy66 and a big welcome from me too.

You have achieved so much and I take my hat off to you Laughing That's a brilliant idea to offer your therapies to the women at the support group.

How are your girls in all this? what I mean is how do you think this has coloured their attitudes towards men? just wondering what your view is on that as I think as parents, we make our children safe then we go through our own journey to recover from what has happened and what is less often discussed is how the children are, further down the line, hope you don't mind me asking your opinion on this Smile

Hi Louise,

My girls have a strained relationship with thier dad with them deciding they dont want to see him when he has upset them.

My daughters have other very positive male influenences with their Papa & their two doting uncles who just adore them and the girls feel they can relax and are happy being in their company. I just hope their fathers temper tantrums and mood swings has not been too much of a negative influence on them.

Sounds as if you have really thought things through. It is understandable they don't want to see their dad when they have experienced his behaviour.

Did you do the Freedom Programme?
