hi new to the site and looking for advice, this a quick question about a case my new partner is going through, she is battling her ex over the custody of the children he has been violent and abusive towards and have spoken to cafcass however because of a drunk and disorderly charge beginning of the year he has requested they criminally check me i dont live with her and can they do this without my say-so or speaking to me, but in my past 8 and 10 years ago i was charged with domestic violence (i know totally wrong and many will judge me on this but had many problems in my late teenage years and are no excuses, im not proud of it and im not the same person i was back then) incidents sentenced to prison and served my time upon release from prison in 2004 i have gone on to gain custody of my own children passing a social services assessment and anger management and have been main carer of my children since 2005 and residency since 2007 and was not in trouble until this stupid drunk and disorderly in feb will this affect her case and chances of residency of her children and will she be told of my past this i thought i would leave behind after such a long time, i dont want to ruin her chances one bit.

Hello link85

It is difficult to say how this will affect the case. What does her solicitor say? We have our own Legal Expert but this service is only available for the parent with the day to day care of the children so  you could ask her to join up and email the expert by clicking here
